Mr. Lahiri and Tara's relationship post marriage has been very intriguing for me. I can't quite read him.

From the start of the show it was shown that he's quite taken with her in the sense she intrigues him/piques his curiosity as she's so young yet so brave and talented. He appears to be drawn to her for her integrity and intelligence. His ego takes a pounding when she figures out he's behind the fire at the Chowdhury factory and takes the tender back. He gets miffed with her when she refuses his offer to work for him. Then he's further rattled when she accuses him of kidnapping Chandni and gets him arrested. That was probably the final straw and decides to teach her a lesson and then the wedding fiasco happens.

I really don't think he set up his master plan with the intent of marrying her - it became a beneficial accessorial win. I don't think he believed she'd actually say yes but when she did he took that as a positive opportunity in his favor. He keeps Tara - the Chowdhury's largest asset thus crushing the Chowdhury's business even though he returns everything he took. At first it seems like he's marrying Tara to teach her a lesson, punish her and essentially make her life hell. However time and time again - he treats her with dignity and respect for the most part. He doesn't go out of his way to torment her unless blinded by his temporary rage re Shlok's allergic reaction. visiting Dipti or unknowingly wearing Anuja's sari.

He keeps her in his home and for the first time ever Tara does not have to work like a slave for her meals. He seems to place no restrictions on her for the most part. He has on many occasions made it clear that while they are married and living together for appearances, they will not have any relationship as husband and wife - his wife's place will always be for Anuja. He tells Tara she is not to keep any expectations of him as a husband, she's not to question what he does, where he goes etc as his personal life is not her concern. Tara agrees to all his conditions.

However it seems the lines are blurring though - he gives into most of her asks - be it the Rath Puja, staying home for his mom's birthday, picking up groceries and decorating the house, going to the Chowdhurys' for AshtaMangala, spending the night and the AshtaMangala puja.... at times it seems like he's softening towards her - like when he makes sure she's taking her medicines, feeling bad for unintentionally burning her hand during the puja and most importantly - appearing jealous when he sees Tara in Agni's room.

While observing Tara going about her morning rituals and applying Sindoor -he can't help but question why she wears Sindoor - its evident that Tara is committed to their marriage, regardless of the circumstances for which they got married, she's going to give the relationship its proper respect. His intentions are unclear - he got jealous/angry seeing her in Agni's room but then checked himself as he was the one that stated they wouldn't have a husband-wife relationship and she cant' question his personal life so technically he shouldn't question hers... but i think that bothers him somewhere now like he's starting to get a bit possessive about her.....?
