I find it funny how people think Rani is not good looking. I think she has gorgeous eyes and a very endearing smile.

She's a very good dancer, matched shahid kapoor (who's a trained dancer) in dil bole hadippa and so what if she is not tall or skinny?? She's not a model. She's an ACTOR.

As far as her acting is concerned, seriously, is that still a debate? Erm, please go and watch Black and name me ONE other actor from today or her time who could've pulled it off. To match up to Bachchan.. it's no joke!

AND I think I'd like to also go on to add on that apart from Black, she definitely outshone all her heroes in the movies she did. Even the Khans. She's one actor who had impeccable chemistry with SRK, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan..

Also, for the regressive movies she did initially in her career, she was still really good in those films. For which she got noticed!

Rani is a good actor but her career is quite a let down. Her oeuvre is nothing great, and that's because she relegated herself to mostly YRF and Dharma movies, which limited the range of roles she could have done.

Rani is a better actor than Aishwarya but the latter has a much more impressive body of work - just look at the kind of roles she did and the directors she worked with, from commercial to parallel cinema, she's done a wide range of work across different genres and languages. So overall, it terms of career impact Aishwarya left a bigger mark.

@bold: Aish fans talk about her body of work a lot, but what body of work ? Devdas & HDDCS ?! because only these two and probably Jodha is what i could remember in her entire career? Like memorable roles, And Rani's one role in Black beats her all memorable roles. Aishwarya was always famous for her beauty but Rani's work is something else, Black, Paheli, Laga chuneri mein daag, Saathiya,

Just because you only know HDDCS, Devdas and Jodhaa Akbar doesn't mean she's only that.

There is also Guru, Raincoat, Chokher Bali, Iruvar, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Raavanan, Provoked, Guzaarish, and many more. These are all good roles and she has received great reviews for all of them.

Rani's Black may be most memorable to you, but that's not my point, when you look at the range of work Ash has done right from the outset; the sheer quantum of good work transcends the overall work Rani has done.

And Laaga chunari mein daag and Paheli memorable roles, really? That's not what I would use to give examples of Rani's good work: it would be Yuva, Hey Ram. Saathiya is good provided you've not seen the original, Alaipayuthey.

^^^ But who remember those roles ?! I mean that's what we are talking right ? the Impact ! when you ask a layman he would say Rani Mukherjee the actress and Aishwarya the beauty. Nobody remembers Aish in Provoked/Raincoat/Guru...She is remembered for her roles in SLB films. But Rani was remembered even in her less known films...even her small role in Multi cast Yuva is remembered...IMO Aishwarya never made that impact with her acting, beauty sure, but acting no

She was definitely No. 1 at one point of time.
See Aishwariya is a brand, so she even when she has no movies can stay relevant only because she is Aish, but there was a period when Rani was both box office success and actress of the year, she may not be a bigger star than Aish on the whole but she was No. 1 for a short period of time.
As an actor she is miles better than Aish. Anyone debating that has no knowledge about the craft of acting.

Nobody liked Rani's movies with Govinda?
Haddh Kar di aapne? Pretty sure back in the days when TV was known more for films than the TV shows, most movies had Rani in the lead. Hit or flop, ofcourse I am not aware.

@Bold: But people remember Rani in Laga chunari mein and Paheli? Come on! I don't think anyone even talks about those films, let alone Rani in them.

And of course films like Raincoat and Provoked are not widely popular because they are not commercial or big banner films, and Ash has done a lot of that stuff. But those who are avid moviebuffs will definitely remember these roles over those roles Rani did.

But my point isn't what people remember: you may be right or wrong about what people remember, we don't have a barometer as of now to judge it.

But what I was saying is the kind of different films and the rich variety of roles and films Ash did was overall better than Rani who limited herself to YRF and Dharma films for the most part - Ash OTOH only did 1 YRF/Dharma film as a lead in her whole career.

I love Ash & I am no admirer of Rani, but Rani is a FAR FAR BETTER ACTOR than even her over-rated cousin Kajol, so forget about ARB!! It's highly insulting to poor Rani to compare her acting skills to Ash- Ash does really well with a capable director who handles her sensitively, but Rani is an unique mix of nature & nurture. Because she has that raw talent. Ash does not. Though Ash is a better actor than what this forum rates her as... It's unthinkable to compare Rani & Ash as actress' , lmfao.

I've absolutely no idea why people do not think Rani is good-looking. For many it well could be because she's so dusky & India & Indians are obsessed with paleness/white skin! Rani is beautiful. I've always found her beautiful right from her debut & she was only groomed & handled better & got the best makeup artists like Mickey Contractor later on to enhance her present good-looks. Her brandy eyes are beautiful, and can speak so much! Her voice is pretty irritating but apart from that I see no defect in her as far as physicality goes.
