Mama Bear
Its OK for you to hate my decisions Dadu. Ive hated myself a lot so I know the feeling" Ashvin said thoughtfully
Dadu was a little taken aback. He didnt expect confessions from Ashvin. He wanted Ashvin to be rebellious it would make his job so much easier and guilt free
"You have to support not only yourself but also Ms Shanbag all on your... umm.. not sure how"
"I invested wisely" Ashvin stopped and exhaled audibly "I know... I havent done too many wise things... I did invest my bonus the last 6ish years"
"You bought this house, houses dont pay themselves you know?"
"He doesnt need any money I could write him a check for this whole building" Mandira hated the grilling she was sad for her son
"Ruk jao puttar" Dadu said calmly
"No... houses dont pay themselves but they produce money" "I have an apartment in Yelahanka that brings almost as much as I would need for this home's payment"
"How do you pay that apartment's instalment?"
"Umm.. I had money" he sat down weakly
"From where, I dont think Cuisine Craft pays you in crores"
"Umm... I dropped out of Law School I had enough to buy two apartments... Dad.." he swallowed painfully
Sharanbir was speechless, Vishwas was one entity that drove the whole room to tears. He was impressed with his grandson. He will never reveal it
But it was wise... he was surprised Ashvin had inadvertently gone down the same path of the family's legacy business... real estate
"Papaji let him be tonight..." Mandira wept softly
"Isko kadi kuch nahi kaha hai maine" Sharanbir cleared his throat gruffly
"I wont argue" Ashvin said getting up, his eyes red and moist
"He is doing so many things, so many different things" Sharanbir said
"He is not hurting anybody na Papaji"
"Wo tey kara hoya isne" he said firmly waving a finger
The girls came out
Trisha now dressed in a dark green mesh dress with embroidery at the bottom, with long ruffled sleeves.
Leela "Ma I gave this one to her... its too long for me"
"Ms Shanbag" Sharanbir smiled warmly
"You came early" Trisha pointed
"You havent lived long enough, you already talk like him? He would always tell me I came late, when I would visit when he was little" Sharanbir pointed to Ashvin
"He loved his Dadu... loves him" Mandira corrected herself
"Now he cant wait to see me leave" Sharanbir spoke unmindful of Mandira
"Thats not true. I dont mind you at all" Ashvin said expressionless
"To khaane khaate hain chalo... I made your favorite chholey bhature beta" Mandira jumped up and went into the kitchen
Trisha hesitated over what to take on
"I can make no?" she offered Mandira softly
"You dont know cooking" Mandira reminded
"I only have to make round? roti type no?" she asked nervously
"Not round... oblong" Mandira said haughtily
"Oh? What is that?"
"Oval shaped" "We can eat round ones one day" Ashvin shot his mother down
Trisha deftly deep fried a bunch... Mandira fried inbetween scooping out the rice the raita and the subzis in bowls
Trisha found one reddening as it bobbed in the oil
"Umm... Aun... Mrs Narang" she called out
Mandira turned in shock as if she wanted to be addressed as "Mom"
"Nobody calls me Mrs Narang" she said "In this house" she said.. not exactly approving Trisha
to use the word "Mamma" "Mom" or "Ma" but at the same time conveying that HATES the Mrs Narang
"I guess I should use Aunty" Trisha nodded knowingly
At dinner..
The girls giggled and were generally messing around with food, serving each other giant scoops...
"Aaj to kam haso... he needs some peace" Mandira scolded
"Ma.. quit harassing them" Ashvin reprimanded his mother
"Nahi... aaj to"
"Aashooo supporting me?" Leela smiled gleefully and piled another scoop of paneer on to Trisha's plate
"No I am supporting Trisha actually, I dont want her to get run over" Ashvin smirked
"sHE IS NOT A BABY... I AM" Leela was miffed
"You sure are acting like one"
Leela picked up two bhaturas and put it on Ashvin's plate
"Thanks" he nodded calmly "Want one?" he asked his wife
"I ate two" she mumbled painfully
"You are a rice girl Ms Shanbag?" Sharanbir asked
She nodded relieved
"We cant eat rice everyday" Mandira told Sharanbir
"she shud have the freedom to eat what she wants." Ranbir said
Trisha smiled at him with gratitude
"rachit prefers rice too" he said
Mandira had had it by that point with her FIL
"Papajeee... tuannu ek ore... (should I tell you one more time to back off from my son?) umm.. can we all enjoy dinner please?" she said looking directly at him
"Aaho beta" he nodded surprised at mama bear's attack
