Fine & Unemployed
"You actually quit your job?" Mandira rubbed something vigorously on her flushed face
Ashvin threw his jacket on the back of the couch
"wheres Trisha?" he looked everywhere
"She is not home" Mandira was furious
She sat down and quit rubbing her face
"What do u mean shes not home" Ashvin texted Trisha distractedly
"Biw...tumhar" ... "umm... she is gone during the day as usual chasing that elsuive Ph D"
"wher is Lee?"
"Why are you asking me? "Its not even Noon you are home saying you quit your job"
Mandira paced the living room nervously
"How can you do that Ashvinn?" "I mean Dadu is getting ready to start a resort in Konkan coast and you have no job altogether?"
"Why is everything so hard for us. Daddy never hurt a fly. Why should we be expected to make sacrifices so many times over and over again"
"Mom... calm down... I CHOSE this path" Ashvin said firmly
"Par kyon? Kisi ko poochte nahi ho"
"I know your answer... there is no use of a consult with you"
"I protect you from being foolish"
"I have to do foolish things to figure my life out Ma"
"Not when Dadu already thinks so poorly of you"
"You cannot manage how he thinks of me Ma... you have no control over that"
"If I cannot influence him... and I cannot help you... I cannot watch you being treated this way na"
"I know what I am doing" he said
Mandira broke down and began to cry
He sighed audibly, groaned and got up and walked over to her
"Maaa... listen... listen" she shooed him away "Hato... Ma ko haath nahi lagao"
"Mum..."
"You were fine last night!!!"
"I am fine NOW" he chuckled and shook his head
"Fine and unemployed"
"You do realize it NOT my company" he scoffed
"You told me you were going to think of Cuisine Craft as employment no? Not everybody has their own biz, you told me!!!
Prabhuuu What have you done puttar. Do you know how Dadu will perceive it?" she looked at him horrified her eyes big pools of moisture
"Umm... I ve kinda spent the last 10 years wondering how he perceives things" he said gruffly
"Its not about the inheritance... he will think you are a quitter... you know... just like... law school" she sobbed
"So be it... I have to walk the talk" he said sighing
His phone beeped
"I am in auto going to BU" Trisha responded
"Lunch?" he texted back with a twitch of a smile
"Is that DADU?" Mandira panicked trying to figure out what to say
"You really think I am on a texting basis with him?" he smirked
She looked at her son sadly... he was not a "normal" Narang grandchild
Even Leela texted Sharanbir daily
But not Ashvin
"Why NOT ashvin... youve never done anything wrong" Mandira was outraged "You are my adorable first born"
ashvin let his phone lay on the side and shut his eyes... "Relaxx... I am going to be fine... there are 100s of millions like me looking for a job"
"exactly... your family employs people"
Her phone pinged it was Sharanbir
"When are you going back to Delhi puttar?"
"I dont know... koi kaam tha?" she tried to sound very normal
"Nahi.. where are you?" Sharanbir made convo
"Oh just ghar par jee" she said
"No appointments today?" he asked ewith a smile
"I know... I know... I am hoping the girls comes back home soon so we can go out"
"Girls? Trisha and Leela?"
Mandira realized she had typed a plural"
"I am taking Trisha out to lunch" Sharanbir said
"Ashvin.. wanted" she began and stopped
"What did he want?"
By now Trisha responded to Ashvin
"I am going with Dadu... you want to come?" she asked
"Only with you" he typed and smiled
"I am not special" she said shyly
"No wonder he wants to hang with you" Ashvin couldnt help jab Sharanbir
"He is old and nice"
"Will you pick me when I am old?" he asked laughing as he typed
She smiled self consciously thinking up a response over text
"Trish?"
"U want every answer"
"Yep" he grinned staring at his screen
"I can come early... home" she said
"For me?" he asked elated
"Yes" she said earnestly causing a tormenting surge of need to build up inside him
He thumbed the three letters with a intense gaze. not paying attention to his mother
Mandira's mind worked overtime as she wondered how to fix this problem in her son's life
She said her prayers in a whisper, went to bookmarked pages of spiritual strength and other such motivational juice...
