I was surprised to find a court ruling in India in the year 1974 on Ghandharva marriage...it was an interesting read...

In a 1974 case, Judge Mukherji noted, "Gandharva form of marriage should not be regarded as concubinage or quasi-marital union, more so in the context of the modern Society and in the background of the forward thinking of the present law givers. The possibility of legal validity of this form of marriage in the whole of India in near future even without being backed by custom, is too notorious to be ignored. In a sense, Gandharva form of marriage is trying to come back very fast (in India), pushing parental domination to the background."

OMG! I am in total dis-belief and it has been an eye-opener for me as until now I had read it in historical books and watched the movie 'Shankutala' but never heard of it in real life ! Amazing yaar ! Which means it is totally legal in India ...😆 Wow, Mehak rock now!

@Patsy, good research work. This series aur kya kya karwaega 😉... But it's just an opinion of a person attached to the legal system, not a law. As I have mentioned in my post yesterday, as per Hindu Marriage Act or Special Marriage Act, Gandharva Vivaah has got no legal validity, until and unless registered properly.

Yes i had read about it. A recent ruling as recent as 2012 supported Gandharva vivah as legal.

@patsy-Wow! that's interesting info.

THey can explore teh rights of cohabiting couples, i think there was some ruling recently.Sha did go and live in theri house and now Mehak is staying with him.
Also, she can sue him for breach of promise.

BTW... aagy ka kuch patah chala...as per GV consummate kar sakty hai ya Mahek ne yahn bhi koi back up research kar rakhi hai 🤣

Absolutely, legal...Shaurya toh is already having the bland frame for junior mehak or shaurie baba...
