I was surprised to find a court ruling in India in the year 1974 on Ghandharva marriage...it was an interesting read...

In a 1974 case, Judge Mukherji noted, "Gandharva form of marriage should not be regarded as concubinage or quasi-marital union, more so in the context of the modern Society and in the background of the forward thinking of the present law givers. The possibility of legal validity of this form of marriage in the whole of India in near future even without being backed by custom, is too notorious to be ignored. In a sense, Gandharva form of marriage is trying to come back very fast (in India), pushing parental domination to the background."

OMG! I am in total dis-belief and it has been an eye-opener for me as until now I had read it in historical books and watched the movie 'Shankutala' but never heard of it in real life ! Amazing yaar ! Which means it is totally legal in India ...😆 Wow, Mehak rock now!

Good job CVs ...👏👏👏

Nice post. I think if taken to court, the ruling will be in favor of Mahek that marriage happened, because they exchanged garlands in front of so many witnesses. A lot of people marry just by exchanging garlands in temples. It is a legal marriage.

Rekha, you have a valid point...Me too wondering instead of thid drama why didn't Mehka approach legally by going to court for both breach of promise as well as the theft of the recipe book ?😕

May be because she loves Shaurya and she doesn't want him in jail, but at the same time she doesn't want to take his insult lying down. She is fighting him with love.

Good job Patsy 👏

Though I have gone through all these researches when I was studying Drama as one of my subjects in highschool time. Sankutala was the recomonded "Sanskrit" drama for us. Actually its a "Musical drama" by Kalidasa where Dushyanta n Sakuntala play main roles. It was a very nice studying at that time I can still remember I used to love "Sakunthala", "Othello" n a few more dramas. Than other Japanese n Greek ones. Specialy Sopholes's "Oedipus" I can bear with Othello though I just hate tragedies. Ugh n then comes this one the height of missery n suffering a story of unfortunate people who make me feel more disgusted than sorry. I wrote an essay losing myself amid the memories of the period of highscholl studies. 🤣 But it was a memory to be cherished

Thanks goes to u Patsy

Sinhalese - Maname n Sinhabahu

English - Shakespeare's - Othello n Romeo Juliet -

English - Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House

Japanese - Kabuki - Yoshitsune

Ideally, if it's in the real world, Mahek need not be in bridal wear and she most certainly need not do band baja baraat. But the main point they are trying to convey is that Mahek is not taking his rejection/insult lying down. Though they took the entertainment route to the extent that it looks like they are trivializing the girl's pain of rejection and heartbreak, the questions the she asked and the points she raised, are very much valid. For that i am going to give it to them. One thing I can't help but love is that Mahek finally took such a bold decision all by herself to move in with Shaurya against Kantha's and her society's conventions. She didn't take an emotional decision, but thought through thoroughly.
