So I kinda watch the show in a different perspective. Its not according to the soap, its according to the viewer. 😃
So in my POV, Abhi and Tanu were just casually dating each other. He thought she was a model, part of his celeb world, and she wanted all the benefits of being his girlfriend. The whole "they've known each other their whole life" is kinda misconstrued since they keep changing up Tabhi's background story. And according to ML Abhi, he has no idea who Tanu is. So Tanu hasn't been with him through thick and thin during the rough phases of his life.
Abhi didn't want to get married to Tanu, but after Daadi's persistence, he says okay and proposes to Tanu, who says she can't because her career will crumple. Which angers him but he forgives her when she comes crawling back and asking for forgiveness. Being part of the celeb world, I think he knew at the time why she's with him-he has explained many times on the show that he had no belief in love, that was a stupid concept to him (in the car with Purab after the launch where Pragya had spoken up prior to their marriage and then the proposal concert with Pragya). So he wasn't in love nor did he believe she loved him. When you don't believe in love, you dont' expect the other person to be in love with you either. We saw that clearly when Pragya fell in love with an oblivious Abhi-he didn't believe in love, and so he didn't see that Pragya could be in love with him.
Money-minded vs Goldigger: You can be in love while being money-minded-Abhi didn't believe in love, like I mentioned above, he mentioned not believing in LOVE several times while being with Tanu. He didn't think Pragya could be in love with him because he didn't believe in love. In order for Abhi to think Tanu was money-minded----means he thought she was in love with him. Which I believe he did not presume. So therefore, he thought she was a gold-digger > moneymindedness.
When Aalu told him Pragya is trapping Purab, he didn't do ANY research to figure out whether Pragya was really a golddigger. He made broad assumptions, found out she took back her refusal to the proposal, and just blindly yet consciously made a decision to marry a girl and ruin her life for being a golddigger. Yes it was Aalu's decision that he FULLY supported. But I think he was okay with having a relationship with a girl that doesn't love him-so it should have been okay for him to see Purab involved in a relationship with such a girl too, no? He thought Pragya was coming in between his sister's love, so he went through all of this. If it were anyone else besides Aalu with Purab, he could have cared less.
He knew she was chalaaq. He had no doubt about that. He knew she helped him in covering up their relationship when Puneet brought it up. He knew she was a part in helping frame Pragya for stealing Puliyah's engagement ring, which then Purab saved Aroras at last minute. He knew she only cared about herself when they got in trouble in the drunk driving case. So its not that he didn't know of her money-mindedness. When he needed to manage and take care of Drunk Pragya, Tanu wasn't there to help him, saying she had other things. And then he allowed Tanu to come into the relationship and take full advantage of her girlfriend status in their lives after their marriage.
It was not until he started distancing himself from Tanu (probably when Leena came in) that he started becoming unaware about her evil deeds. Otherwise, about half of Tanu's misdeeds Abhi was aware about in my opinion.
So yes, I still maintain my claim that he had a different definition of gold-digger for Pragya vs Aalu.
Sorry this got long. If you have a different POV, I totally respect that but would like to end my opinions from here on out. Thanks guys! Have a good night everyone :)
