This song was sung by two contestants in the SRGMP forum singing contest till now. Last round Suneetha and this time Aparna Gadgil. So thought of sharing something interesting about this song. The song was also sung by Shreya Ghosal in the SRGMP show.

This superb classical duet is based on four Ragas, one each for each stanza, Sohni (Hamsanandi), Bahar (Kanada), Juanpuri (Juanpuri) and Yaman (Yamuna Kalyani). The movie was dubbed from the 1957 Telugu movie of the same name. All songs are basically reproductions from the Telugu version. The surprising part was that this Hindi song won a national award in 1958, where as the regional Telugu song was neglected. Well, any how, people were happy for P. Adinarayana Rao. As for me well I felt that Lata Mangeshkar was superb and so was the Telugu male singer Ghantasala. Judge for yourself. I am uploading both the versions.

Kuhu kuhu koyelia has four different raagas for each stanza. This bit of information I did not know before. But how nicely it is merged together. This I would think is pretty uncommon - to have each stanza in a different raag. But the song is a golden heritage. No matter which part of the day or in which mood one hears , it can cheer one up.

I am surprised the telegu version got ignored while the Hindi one won.

In one of the semifinal rounds there was a tie between rokini and another girl(i forget her name 😕 ).they were asked to sing 'kuhu kuhu'...and ronkini won!!this song is a good test to judge singing skills.
