The surprise hit of 2013, Fukrey, will soon be back with a sequel which takes the story of Hunny, Choocha, Zafar, Lali and Bholi Punjaban forward. Mirror has learnt that the original cast, including Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Ali Fazal, Manjot Singh and Richa Chadha will be retained. But the story will move forward from the campus. Shooting begins in August in Delhi.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed the news, saying, "When we were promoting Dil Dhadakne Do, we were constantly being asked why we aren't spinning sequels since several of our films could lend themselves to franchises. Since the characters of Fukrey become really popular, we have decided to retain the original cast, along with director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba."

He further reveals that one day when they were discussing another script, writer Mrighdeep suddenly wondered what if they were to take Fukrey forward. Sidhwani asked him to drop everything and pen the idea down. "The story will take the characters' lives forward but everything else will remain the same. We don't want to change the North Indian setting," he points out.

Thanks to Fukrey, Varun Sharma who played Choocha has become a big draw because of his comic timing. But Sidhwani is not happy that the actor is playing Choocha in every other film. "I've asked him not to do it otherwise he will lose out on the sequel and he's promised me he won't do it again," he says.

Speaking about the other franchises, the filmmaker points out that besides Rock On!!, they will also roll with Don 3. "People keep asking me about Dil Chahta Hai and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara sequels but we need to be inspired or they won't work," he reasons. "We would rather retain good memories of the originals."
