Shah Rukh Khan’s debut film Deewana to get a sequel? Filmmaker confirms script in progress

A sequel to Deewana, the 1992 film that marked Shah Rukh Khan’s entry into Bollywood, is currently in the works. More than three decades after the original hit the screens, filmmaker Guddu Dhanoa has confirmed that Deewana 2 is being scripted.

In a recent interaction with News18 Showsha, Dhanoa said, “Yes, Deewana 2 is very much happening. We’re currently in the scripting stage. There’s still some time before the film goes on floors, as my web series will release before that.”

Deewana, directed by Raj Kanwar, starred the late Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharti in lead roles. Shah Rukh Khan played a supporting yet impactful role as Raja, a passionate young man who falls in love with a widow. Although it was not the lead role, the part left a strong impression, helping launch Khan’s journey into stardom.

The film was a commercial hit and earned five Filmfare Awards, including Best Male Debut for Shah Rukh Khan. It also stood out for its music, with songs like Aisi Deewangi, Sochenge Tumhe Pyaar, and Teri Umeed that continue to resonate with fans of ‘90s Hindi cinema.

While there is no confirmation yet on whether Shah Rukh Khan will be part of the sequel, fans and industry watchers are curious to see how the new film will connect with the original. The cast for Deewana 2 is yet to be finalized.

Dhanoa also revealed that he is developing a sequel to Bichhoo, another film from his production banner that gained popularity in the early 2000s. “We are actively working on the script for Bichhoo 2,” he said.

Apart from his work as a producer, Dhanoa has been known for launching new talent. He introduced Diljit Dosanjh in Punjabi cinema with The Lion of Punjab in 2011.

Reflecting on Shah Rukh Khan’s growth, Dhanoa added that the actor’s success is not just about his career graph. “It’s his nature and humility that make him who he is,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dhanoa’s upcoming directorial Romeo S3, featuring Thakur Anoop Singh and Palak Tiwari, is set to release on May 16.
