Where did her appeals for justice go when cases happened in UP?

Where was her sense when her husband shamelessly appeared in UP mein dum hai ad to salvage UP's image even after gruesome Nithari killings?

I like Bachchans only for work in cinema. They are #fail in attempts to be voice of conscience!

Seriously, watching this interview has really peeved me off today. Only found out about it when Faridoon Shahryar posted this on Twitter:

Faridoon Shahryar @iFaridoon

I urge Mrs Jaya Bachchan to please watch #IndiasDaughter n thn talk to the media. Her interview with @TimesNow is deeply shocking!!

How come not one journalist has ever asked her how she felt when Mulayam Singh Yadav made his 'rape is a mistake committed by boys' speech? I just cannot take this woman seriously.

Fair play to the people who have formed their opinion about the documentary after watching it, regardless of the fact whether they are for or against it. But I don't understand how people who haven't even seen it are passing judgments while only relying on hearsay and assumptions. How are you going to understand what was shown without even seeing it for yourself?

- He got paid
- He is on TV
- There are so many articles that talk about him.

In a way he did become a "celebrity" (for lack of a better word).

India better implement a ban to all interviews in jail.

No one knows for real if he got paid. This news was floated only after the ban to justify the ban.

Articles talk about all criminals. So they become celebrities?

Interviews of likes of Babu Bajrangi were also there when cases were sub judice. Why no one protested then? Why only now?

I think when you have free press to a certain extent criminals are given a somewhat celebrity status. Such is the nature of the beast. The more heinous the crime the higher their fame or infamy goes. But as others have said repeatedly over the last week or so, in order to get to the root of the problems one needs to understand the mindset of these criminals. This was a necessary evil IMO. And I am sure the intent of the makers was never to glamorize the criminals.

@bold: Why would he agree to an interview when he is not getting anything in return?

According to a report by Navbharat Times, it says that Leslee Udwin tried many unsuccessful attempts to interview Singh. And finally after receiving permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Tihar Jail with the help of a person name Khullar.

An investigation by the times in the Tihar Jail found that Mukesh Singh demanded Rs 2 Lakh initially and later negotiated for Rs 40,000. The money was reportedly delivered to Mukesh's family.

The documentary "India's Daughter", by British filmmaker Leslee Udwin, that carries an interview with Mukesh, one of the six men who brutally raped a 23-year-old woman on December 16, 2012. The documentary has kicked up a storm in India, resulting in a ban across the country.

I believe the article, whether it came out after the ban is irrelevant to me.

Just watched Jaya's interview and frankly she sounds incredibly ignorant.

It almost sounds like she is saying it is shameful if rape victims talk about what happened to them. She kept asking why was this documentary made, what was the point. Well, the maker explained why she made it. Then she asked why was the victim's name revealed. Joyti Singh's parents very clearly said that they want the world to know their daughter's name because they are proud of her and they want to world to know specifically who this crime happened to. She asked what good comes from interviewing the rapist? Really? She doesn't think it is important for people to understand not just how these rapists think but how their educated lawyers think?

And to top it all, she sounded very racist by saying there was no need for "this gori" to come and make this video, and how "if it needed to be made" we have sensitive filmmakers in India who can do this.

I really genuinely hope the media rakes her over the coals for this!!!

As far as I know people serving terms in prison can appear in TV Shows , Movies and even write books as long as they don't profit from it.

It makes a lot more sense for a scientist to research and understand the mindset of rapists than the public. I really don't think the public gains anything by watching a rapist for a few minutes. I personally did not understand his mindset at all. Maybe you understood his mindset.

The problem with such interviews is someone who thinks like a rapist may feel encouraged after watching him. Not only has this documentary caused quite a stir, but it seems as though he got paid for the interview too.
