It won't be wrong to say that director Sudhir Mishra's Mehrunissa has been trying to find its ground ever since the project was planned. Reportedly, Sudhir had first begun to write the screenplay of the film, however left it midway as he got busy with other projects. Then few years down the line, he along with producer Nikhil Advani had revived the film, however later Nikhil backed out again as he apparently wasn't happy with actress Chitrangada Singh playing the female lead.

However, Sudhir confirmed to us that after finishing his ongoing film Aur Devdas, his next film will indeed be Mehrunissa.A source close to the filmmaker had informed us that Sudhir has plans to revive his ambitious project Mehrunissa, which stars Amitabh Bachchan and Chitrangada in the lead. So when we contacted Sudhir seeking for a confirmation on the news, he did admit that his next project will be Mehrunissa. However, he also added that he likes to concentrate on one film at a time and for now is only focusing on Aur Devdas which stars Richa Chadda, Aditi Rao Hydari and Rahul Bhat in the main lead.

We further asked whether he would retain his original cast of Bachchan and Chitrangada or look out for a fresh cast, Sudhir preferred to keep it short and said, "No new person has been added."Further commenting on the rumours about Nikhil Advani being upset about casting Chitrangada as the main lead, Sudhir said, "I am (currently) making Aur Devdas and all that you have heard is not true." Recently it was reported that Sudhir had cancelled his Aur Devdas shoot in Delhi citing concerns about the security of the women crew members. When asked where does he now plan to complete the rest of the shoot, Sudhir said, "There was only two days of shooting left. We are now doing it in the outskirts of Mumbai."
