hi folks this is another attempt to highlight what i was throwing light upon and that is jalal being a secular ruler is not only a rare quality of an individual but to have that big of a heart along with intelligence and far sightedness is even rarer..no wonder he was given the title of being great! and my friends had put forward very intelligent and some thoughtful comments in my previous thread which got closed due to discussion of some historical facts but would love to continue with this rare quality of the Akbar and relate most of it to what little is being shown in the show!

and also one of my friends ela mentioned about jo's greatness of being in an atmosphere which was very different and still making her mark as a queen..and to that i would like to say what if Akbar was not Akbar and he was aurengzeb then what would have she gone through..she would have been in a worst situation but it was him being a secular leader made her life easy which would have been unbearable otherwise!

i will quote some beautiful lines written by my friends in praise of this great leader..

"He sees the whole of the Hindustan that he wishes to unite under his rule, not by brute force, but thru willing acceptance. Na ki shamsheer ki dhar se, par rishton ke reshmi dhagon me piroke. To win the heart of this Hindustan, he knows now what he has to do. For them to accept him, he has first to accept them. ..by shyamala.

His greatness can withstand and overcome any slander from any biased group and any silly portrayal by any tv show...by sandhya!

Mandy, interestingly 4 of his navratnas were hindus - that shows his ability to create comfort zones not only for himself but also for others where the common thread was the ability to look with different povs and accept differences and appreciate other povs and their differences - it was by creating a space where no one had to fear being different would be a reason for persecution or ridicule that Akbar managed to create - which is missing today - we can see for ourselves how a different perspective is not only ridiculed but is also pushed off the radar !!!...by adi!

..and again i would say what i said in my last post that i would like to see his reforms and wars and various other achievements untouched, as they were in history and if ekta cannot show them properly then she should just stick to sbs and let us decide whether we want to watch it or skip it!

Thanks Mandy. I was not able to respond to your earlier version of the thread in the week due to work ... but will take a moment now. Yes, Akbar's respect for all religions is praise worthy ... and the show has done a good job highlighting that ...

In take 5 style 😉 (sorry, I am aadat se majboor 😆), my 5 favorite moments showing his secularism in the show:

1. His wedding with Jodha: Both accepting her conditions and doing the wedding Hindu style
2. His bending down in front of Devi Maa for Jodha's sake in the mandir ... and consequent justification of that to the Maulvis
3. His relationship with Jodha's Kanhaa: His mor / bansuri gift for Kanha, his preventing the Murthi / Diya from moving in the Ben track, and the staapna of the Murthi again after Jodha returned from Amer
4. The removal of the pilgrimage tax ... and his beautiful words on how everything in nature was equal to men so why the difference from laws... and then the beauty of the Hindu awaam declaring him as Akbar
5. His appointment of Hindu ministers ... Todarmal and Birbal; of course, Todarmal wins the prize for me

divi, der aaye darust aaye!..ekta has at least shown all that to highlight how secular he was and how he made hindustan his home rather than just a land that he conquered unlike the britishers and the politicians of today's time and age who are there to fill their pockets and do not have an ounce of patriotism in them!..the prime example is state of punjab which was considered one of the most prosperous state is now in dumps..the youth is succumbed to drugs and unemployment..whereas the politicians have their bank balances in foreign banks!

Your point No.1 was not really secularism, Divya dear. At that point, he did not care, he only wanted her safely tied up. The same goes for his agreeing to her 2 sharts; the Schadenfreude (German for malicious pleasure) in his eyes and face as he accepts them was a delight to behold.

Your point No. 2 is way above all the rest, and that is why Mandy has that quote from my Gordian Knot post about Jalal at that moment. That was truly a moment of epiphany, and for me, that was the instant when Jalal became Akbar. All that followed was supplementary.

I do not know how and why Birbal became a Minister, and for what? My understanding was that he was appointed as the court jester, but being wise, his advice on other matters too was useful. Of course this Mahesh Das is a know all who interrupts the Shahenshah without so much as a by your leave. That scene of him and Tansen squabbling in front the Shahenshah in open court was unbelievable.😡
