I am loving his character sketch right now the most. What a tragic comedy his life has become right now. I loved QH1 with Asad and Zoya, but the underlying equations in Sanam and Ahil's tumultous relationship are definitely more intense and defined.
Ahil loves Sanam. He doesn't understand why. He cannot fathom how Sanam turned him upside down. He cannot reason how he let her. And now she is so irrevocably a part of him, he cannot jolt her out of his mind. And the tragic irony of his life, he is married to the one he loves, but there is no love or happiness in this nikaah. Just a crushing pain of being so near, yet so far. It's like being in a desert for years, coming across the oasis that can save your life, but having your legs tied down so you can only see it, but not reach it. Ahil is suffering every minute of this nikaah, even though it is probably the one thing he most wants. Can you imagine more tragic circumstances for a lover? He cannot even get over her, because she is in front of his eyes at all times. He has to control his feelings for her and act like he doesn't care, even when everyone tries to make them act out husband wife all the time. Imagine his agony when he has to play a loving husband with restraint in front of the lawyer.
And how brilliantly they have shown Ahil's turn around in character. Such a well etched out growth. Love changes and how! From a typical care-a-damn playboy who had multiple girls to pass his time, to being absorbed day in day out in the thoughts of one, the only one who occupies his heart, mind and soul. From being carefree about life and using all his money to buy him happiness, to being lonely and spending time with himself despite everyone around him. From being careless and immature and almost a jerk, to being such a caring friend that the thought of loving Sanam, when she is Rehaan's bothers him, and to suddenly becoming a sober and down to earth mamma's boy. I love this new take on Ahil, ever since he has realized his feelings for Sanam. When you really love someone, and it makes you a better person, you know this person is right for you. And love can really change anybody. It is the most powerful drug in the world!
All the times Nida insulted Sanam, he shut up, because he didn't think he had the right to stand up to her honor. He did not want Sanam to feel indebted to him for fighting against his fiance for her. And nor did he want to stand up for Sanam and make it obvious to how much he loves her. He was pained by Nida's taunts, but he stood silent, keeping his feelings tamed down. He knew if he speaks up, they may run wild and say the truth nobody wants to hear. Today, he is a jerk to her, because he knows if he doesn't behave mean, he will spill out his heart to her and he will have stabbed his brother and friend in the back. He looks at Sanam as Rehaan's love and he feels so guilty for even loving her and agreeing to this nikaah, for having trampled all over Rehaan's dreams. He thinks even Sanam loves Rehaan, and hence he doesn't even try to do something nice for her, because he knows it is not his place to. I love this spot they have put Ahil in, because it is so dramatic, tragic and intense at the same time. I do hate to see him behaving so rough with Sanam, but he knows if he doesn't, he won't be able to stop from telling her all, or simply taking her in his arms. He knows she is not his to confess or hold and only his mean and rude demeanor can keep her away from him. What a tough position for poor Ahil! Loves her, but has to act like a jerk and hurt her all the time, even if his behavior hurts him more. He has to bear her hatred for him, in her words and her behavior.
Today, was such a spectacular episode in showing Ahil's dilemma. No one remembered his birthday. Today, he thought his most beloved ammi would remember, his best friend Rehaan would wish him, and yet they all failed him once again. Only, the one he truly loves remembered and laid out a cake for him. Could he partake in that happiness that the Sanam he so loves, was the only one who cared to do something nice for him? No! Even though he may have felt like hugging her with gratitude or happiness, he had to doubt her intentions. He doesn't want to assume she was nice to him, because it would be too much hope in his heart for their relationship. He wants it to work on mutual dislike, because if she starts being nice, he won't be able to hold it back either. Hence, he questioned her in a way that made her feel almost stupid to have shown him a kind gesture. He did it purposely. He wanted her rash words to remind him she is not his to feel happy about. He wallows in his own pain, because he feels guilty of having hope or love for someone who is his friend's love. Ahil is probably the one hero, who despite having everything, really has nothing. Rehaan has his ammi, Sanam has Dillu and Haya, and Ahil inspite of his status, has no one. My heart reached out to him today. KV, was brilliant in that last monologue in his room.
Coming to Sanam, there are a lot of unanswered questions in Sanam's mind that I hope are now focused on too. Why did she lay out a cake for Ahil? Why did she expect him to stand up for her in front of Nida when she clearly knows how they both dislike each other? Why does she get that look of shock each time he is rude to her after their nikaah? IS she hoping for something against all hopes? Why does she look at Rehaan every time Ahil and she have to be husband-wife in front of all? Does she know Rehaan's feelings for her? Does she have unacknowledged feelings for Ahil? Does she have any small hope to work out this relationship with him? Does she want to?
Ahil loves Sanam and can never break the barrier first to let her know of his true feelings. He is the one who knows Rehaan's heart. Sanam needs to figure what she feels for Ahil. I think it will be Sanam to break this misunderstanding between them that she loves Rehaan. Even if she doesn't, will Ahil ever be able to confess to her knowing Rehaan's love for her? This love story is going to take it's time to develop and there are a lot of road blocks on the way for both. But, that is going to be interesting, because beneath their innocent love sotry lies a very dramatic past. I hope Gul doesn't butcher this like the last one, because she has a winning story on her hands this time around.
