Packaging classical songs to make them racy and appealing to the younger generation is not a new idea. One great example of this is "koi jo mila to mujhe aisa lagta thha" sung by Shankar Mahadevan in his album 'Breathless' which I would still rank as his best song.
Yesterday, I came to know about this Marathi song called "Radha hee bawri" which is apparently a craze among Marathi youngsters. Check it out here and enjoy the song (though the visuals don't really appeal to me!)

Breathless IMHO is raag yaman and mukhra of this song also sounds similar though soon it starts touchin notes out of format. There are two probems IMO with this song : one is rhythm arrangement and another is nearly monotonous interludes, it could have been much better, this guy has very good vocals.

Thanks Sahana for posting this link. I did see couple of renditions of this song on youtube by Aniruddha Joshi and Swapnil Bandodkar. Caught them during Zee Marathi swar sangama.

Actually, I thought 'Breathless' was quite innovative and not at all monotonous mainly because of the fantastic lyrics which were difficult to keep up with.

Is this like some popular song which has been re-sung by Swapnil Bandodkar? Maharashtrians should know.

I would agree with ID with the monotonous part. Infact the lyrics part masks this. The innovative way it has been sung you actually are unable to decide where to give the attention, the tune, your own breath while listening to the song or the lyrics. That removes the motonous feel. In this song its very difficult to keep your attention to just one part.

breathless was hardly a song it was more of an experiment to invoke awe and admiration...it was only as innovative as ashok kumars "rail gaadi" which can be father of all raps.... after all we should sue all the afro singers for this style plagiarism....😆..As far as it being in a raaga.. i think every song can fit in some raaga... cos raaga havent popped up miraculously from the skies....anyway...
Regarding the classical to racy is concerned.. its difficult.. I wonder how would one rap to raag bhairavi 😆.. after all racy means rap these days.. I wuld have liked to hear a raag from Pandit Jasraj with rap or hiphop interludes....... 😆

Exactly I don't find it monotonous at all in fact it's one of my favourite songs. It's a lyric based song.

On a serious note Shankar himself admtted that song was recorded in pieces and punched together but it did take a good breath control.
