Oct 29 (Mon):

Megala is reading when Sumathi enters and goes straight to the closet and gets her bag. Sumathi then goes to her mother and asks for money to buy gift for her friend's birthday. Megala thinks that it might be Suresh's birthday and tells Sumathi that she has bought everything she needs and no need for money. Siva and Thanam walks in and Siva shakes him mother's hand and tells her that both the jathagam are very compatible and he wants to conduct the wedding within the month. Megala accuses Siva of listening to Thanam's tunes and doesn't agree to the wedding. Shiva tells his mom that he will make sure that the wedding takes place and that he doesn't need his mother to do anything except to bless the couple, and leaves. Megala thinks to herself that she will not allow the wedding to take place.

Thanam visits Kasthuri and they talk. Kasthuri tells her sister that she now knows the alphabets and some english words. Thanam is very happy and tells Kasthuri that she is lucky to have loving in-laws. Masil walks in on their conversation and Thanam thanks him for being loving to her sister. Masil tells her that it is his duty aan tells Thanam not to worry about Kasthuri. He asks Thanam to stay for a couple of days but Thanam declines saying she has to work.

Megala is in the kitchen cooking and Sumathi comes there. Megala asks Sumathi how come she is home without going out for the past 3 days. Sumathi tells her mother that soon she is going away for good and that is the reason she is spending more time with her mother. Megala advises Sumathi not to marry Suresh as he is not a good choice and that soon she will find a better groom for her. Sumathi thinks and decides to go along with her mother and pretend to listen to her so that the wedding will not be stopped. Megala asks why Sumathi is quiet and Sumathi tells her that she is thinking and feels that her mother is is right and that she will think about it. Megala is happy with that reply.

Masilamani goes to Bharath's (the new face) house and knocks on the door and calls out for him but no one answers and the door is open so he walks in. He walks in calling or Bharath but still no answers, he walks to the kitchen and sees Bharath sleeping. He wakes him up and Bharath wakes up and asks what he wants. Masilamani tells him that he was told that Bharath is an educated person and he wants him to educate his daughter. Bharath refuses saying he is happy just drinking and sleeping (shows an empty liquor bottle). Masilamani again pleads with him but is flatly refused. Masilamani returns home dejected and asks Jothi where Kasthuri is and is told she is upstairs studying. Jothi then asks her husband if she should try and speak with Ram again but Masilamani tells her that there is no way for Kasthuri to go back and live with Ram as Ram is now married to Rekha and has a child. All he wants is for Kasthuri to come up in life and that he will make it happen. He tells her he had seen Bharath and asked him and was refused but he is confident that if he tries again, he will succeed. THODARUM.

Oct 30 (Tues):

Masilamani goes upstairs and sees Kasthuri studying and tells her to continue and that he would arrange for a tutor soon.

Annamalai comes to the office and as usual all staff rise (attention on deck!) and wish him good morning. He tells the peon to ask Ram to come to his cabin. Ram comes in and tells Annamalai that the check given by the client went thru. Annamalai says of course as he was the one who gave the check to those people to give him. He also tells Ram that the clients had absconded with the goods and Ram had been cheated. Ram is shocked to hear this. Annamalai tells him that if the staff gets to know that Ram failed in his first attenpt, they would have no respect for him, and it would be the same with the family front. He tells Ram that he still has confidence in Ram and for him to gon on with his duties. Ram takes leave.

Jothi is cutting vegetable and a neighbor comes visiting. Jothi asks her why she has not been visiting and Prema (the neighbor) that her DIL is expecting and they had gone to visit her. She then asks if Ram and Kasthuri leave in Chennai and Jothi says yes but doesn't know the place She tells Prema that they would visit once in a while. PRema makes a call to her son and tells him to take care of his wife and that she will visit again soon. After making the call she takes leave. Jothi is all soga mayam, goes to the closet and takes out Ram's childhood photo, looks at it and cries buckets of water. Annamalai comes there and sees her and gets angry. He asks her if she is pinning for her grandchild and Jothi nods her head. Masilamani tell her when Jayanthi delivers she can play with the grandchild. He asks where Kasthuri is and is told that she has gone to the temple. Masilamani tells his wife not to talk about Ram or anything connectedwith him when Kasthuri is there and Jothi says ok.

Thanam sits near the phone and when she hears Megala coming, she quickly picks up the receiver and pretend to talk to the Kalyana Mandapam clerk. She asks what dates they are free and that she will go in the evening and pay the advance. She also asks about the caters and other arrangements. Megala comes near her and asks her what she is doing making arrangements for Sumathi's wedding. Thanam hangs up and tells her that she is arranging Suresh-Sumathi wedding. Megala tells her that Sumathi's wedding will not take place for another 2 years as she is still schooling. Thanam tells her Sumathi can continue her education after marriage. Megala tells Thanam that she is will not let Sumathi marry Suresh. Sumathi comes in, stops and listens t the argument. Thanam tells Megala that the wedding will go on and Megala asks if that is Mangamma sabatham . Thanam says no- it is Marumal's sabatham and walks away. Megala sees Sumathi and asks her about the wedding. Sumathi tells her that she is afraid that Thanam might win. Megala tells Sumathi that she feels Sumathi might run away with Suresh but Sumathi says she will not do so and walks away. Megala thinks that Sumathi might escape her.

Masilamani goes to Bharath's house again and sees him cleaning his bicycle. He walks to him tells him that that he is returning to him because of his education and his respect for women. He tells her that he had decided that Bharath is the right person to educate his daughter. Bharath says no and tells Masilamani to leave. Masilamani tells him that he should use his education for others and that he can do so. Bharath tells him that he is not in a position to do so. Masilamani tells him that this would be the last time he comes there and if Bharath decides not to agree he will not disturb him again.

Kasthuri is studying again - O N E 1, E L E P H A N T
1 elephant. Jothi bring some drinks for her. Kasthuri asks her why she is doing so, and Jothi says because she is studying. Masilamani comes in and asks what they are doing and Kasthuri tells him that she is studying and how difficult it is. Masilamani tells Jothi to pack his cloths as he wants to go to Chennai. Both Jothi and Kasthuri look at him. THODARUM.

Oct 31 (Wed):

Continue from yesterday, Masil asks Jothi to pack his bag as he wants to go to Chennai. Jothi and Kasthuri looks at him and Masil tells them that he is not going to see Ram but to Ganesh's house. He tell them that despite asking Bharath to teac Kasthuri numerous times, he had not said anything. So he is seeking Ganesh's help to find a teacher for Kasthuri and leaves.

Sumathi is watching tv and Suresh approaches her and tells her that he has 2 tickets for the cinema and wants her to follow him. Sumathi tells him she will not go with him and not to dream that she will listen to him. Both have some unnecessary argument (ore thalavazhi, thangaleh, so i won't torture you with it). Sumathi goes in after their dumb argument.

Masil waiting while Ganesh is taking a bath and he mutters to himself that Ganesh is wasting water and what not. Ganesh comes and apologizes for making Masil wait and ask if he wants to go to Ram's house. Masil gets angry and shouts at him saying he has disowned Ram and not to talk about him. Ganesh says that Ram is still his son and he should not curse him because Ram would never be happy in his life. Masil says he is afraid what Kasthuri's tears would do to Ram's future and that Kasthuri is more important to him than anyone else. He asks Ganesh to find him a teacher and Ganesh asks if it is for Masil. Masil says it is for Kasthuri as he wants her to be more educated than Ram and to be more successful. He wants to see Ram squirm when he sees Kasthuri educated and successful and that is what he has set to do and will not stop until he has succeeded. Ganesh is very happy to hear this and promises to find a teacher for him.

Kasthuri is cleaning the prayer room and Jothi tells her she needs to go to the market to get grocery. Kasthuri wants to follow her but Jothi tells her its okay and that she will go to the temple in the evening together. She then tells Kasthuri to lock the doors and to be very careful and not to open the door for anyone. She says robbers may seem like a very educated person and they can fool her and enter the house and rob them. After Jothi leaves, Kasthuri locks the door and goes back to do her work. In the meantime, Bharath comes there and knocks the door. Kasthuri remembers her MILs words and peep through the keyhole and sees Bharath. She goes into the room and brings a knife (aruval) and holds it behind her back and opens the door. Bharath asks for Masil and tells her that he was asked to come see him. Kasthuri thinks to herself that her FIL is not in town and knowing this Bharath has come to rob. She tells Bharath that he cannot fool her and that he had come to rob her and chases him away. Bharath leaves and is met by Jothi. Jothi calls him and introduces herself and takes him home. Jothi knocks the door and again Kasthuri opens the door with the aruval. She sees her MIL and Bharath. Jothi introduces Bharath as the master and Kasthuri is embarassed and apologizes. Bharath tells her to come to his house with Masil for lessons and leave.

Jothi as usual preparing vegetables and asks Kasthuri why she had behaved like that towards Bharath. Kasthuri tells her that she was being careful after listening to her word. Then Jothi tells Kasthuri that Masil had gone to Chennai to look for a teacher and Bharath had come and agreed to teach. Kasthuri says that Masil would surely be at Ganesh's house and that she will call and let him know. She goes to the phone and dials the number and waits. Jothi asks what happened and Kasthuri says that it is ringing but no one is picking up. Kasthuri then holds on the receiver with an uncertain expression on her face. THODARUM.

Nov 1 (Thurs):

Kasthuri calles Ganesh phone but no one answers. She hangs up and Jothi tells her to call Ganesh's cell (Sorry folks! Vathu did not call Rekha's house 😊 ). She tries to remember Ganesh's cell number and the phone rings. Masil is on the line and Kasthuri tells him about Bharath's visit and agreeing to teach her. Masil is happy to hear and tells her he will return immediately. Kasthuri tells her MIL the news and she too is pleased.

Megala is praying asking the Almighty to help her to stop the wedding and to remove Suresh from her sight. She opens her eyes and sees Suresh right infront of her grinning frm ear to ear. She asks what he is doing there andhe tells her he is going to do his exams and wants her to bless him. Sumathi comes in and watches this scene and in walks Thanam. Siva too walks in and asks how come everyone is praying together. Suresh tells them that he came to get Megala's blessing before going to take the exam and falls at Megala, but she moves saying that she is afraid that Suresh might push her down. Suresh tells her he will never do that and goes after everyone wishes him luck. Sumathi gives him the thumbs up and Megala sees this. After everyone left, she asks Sumathi what she is doing and she cooly tells her mom that she wish Suresh luck and walks off.

Masil gets ready and waits for Kasthuri and when she comes, Jothi tells her to go pray. Kasthuri falls at her in-laws' feet and seeks blessing. Then tells them that that they are her God. Annamalai then takes her in the car (Ore bantha, as though vathu is going to some college! Incidently, when they leave, Kasthuri sits at the back and Masil infront with the driver, but when they reach Bharath's house, both come get down from the back. Ithu eppadi, enakky melum melum confusion than! 😕 ). They reach Bharath's house and Masil knocks on the door, no answer. He takes Kasthuri in and go looking for Bharath. He find Bharath sleeping in the kitchen again and wakes him up. Bharath tells them to wait and he washes his face and meets them. Kasthuri is uneasy but Masil leaves her there and tells her he will return. Bharath tells Kasthuri to wait as he will be back after a bath.

Masil returns home and Jothi asks where Kasthuri is and he tells her she is studying. Jothi asks him if it is wise to leave Kasthuri alone with Bharath as he is a drunk. Masil tells her that drinking is a habit and that Bharath is a good man and can be trusted. Masil tells Jothi to prepare lunch and pack for both Kasthuri and Bharath, so that he can take it to them.

Kasthuri looks around the house while waiting and is disgusted at the condition it is in. She compares Bharath's house with Ganesh's and thinks that Bharath's house needs cleaning. She takes it upon herself to clean the house and once completed is satisfied with herself and sits down. Bharath comes out and looks around the place that is clean and asks who had cleaned up. Kasthuri tells him that she cleaned the place as it was dirth. Bharath gets angry and asks her if she came to study or do housework. Kasthuri tries to explain that she wanted the place she studies to be lean. Bharath tells her off and chases her out. Kasthuri asks how about her studies and Bharath tells her nothing doing and drags her out of the house and tells her to go! THODARUM.

Nov 2 (Fri):

After pushing Kasthuri out of the house, Bharath goes inside and sits down. He talks to himself how could have slept a little longer among other things. He then thinks back what Masil had told him about his gift and that by passing it on to others he received God's blessing. Bharath then feels bad and goes outside. He sees Kasthuri still standing where he had left her and asks why she hasn't left. Kasthuri tells him that she cannot leave without having her lessons as it is her FIL's wish that she gets an education. Bharath takes her inside and asks her to sit down while he goes and have breakfast. Kasturi offers to make some uppuma for him but Bharath tells her that she is not here to do housework and leaves again. Kasthuri waits and looks around again! Sees the altar dusty and starts to clean it. Bharath walks in and ask if they can start the lesson or if she has any more cleaning to do. Kasthuri asks him if he has eaten and Bharath tells her that since it was late, he couldn't get any tiffin. He tells her to sit down and write what she knows. Kasthuri writes and gives to him and the lesson begins (everything muted - thank god!).

Megala preparing vegetable (looks like murunga kirai -my favorite). Siva and Thanam tell her they are leaving for work. Megala tells her son to wait while she prepares the vegetable and for them to eat and then go to work. Siva says they are already late and they have to go. Megala brings up the story about how Thanam may want to visit her parents at this time when she is pregnant. Thanam stops her saying she does not feel that way because to her Megala is like her mother and this is her home. Megala gets frustrated as her plant o send Thanam home backfires. Suamthi and Suresh walk in on the conversation and observe. Siva and Megala take leave. Suresh makes fun of Megala and goes away and Sumathi follows but is stopped by Megala who asks her to go to her room (I guess it is time out for Sumathi!).

Annamalai looking at some files, Rekha comes there asking why he is doing all that when she and Ram are now taking care of the business. Annamalai tells her it is habit. Radha comes there and they talk about the World Tour. Annamalai tells her that it would take 3 months for the entire tour and that all of them cannot go now. Ram comes there and Annamalai tells both Ram and Rekha to take a short trip to Malaysia/Singapore. Ram refuses saying they just went to Ooty and came back. Annamalai insists that they go and Ram agrees. Ram and Rekha leave for work. Radha tells Annamalai that she is happy that Rekha has accepted Ram but Annamalai tells her not to be too happy as what Ram did was not a simple thing and Rekha will not forget that easily and it they who should make sure she does.

Masil takes food to Bharath's hosue and sees him teaching Kasthuri. He is happy and he goes to them and tells Bharath that he had brought food for both of them. Bharath tells Masil that Kasthuri is not going to stuty the whole day, only two hours (10am - 12noon). He refuses the food saying that he doesn't like anyone being concerned about him. Masil tells him that he will not bring food next time but for him to accept this time. Bharath finally tells Masil to leave and food. Masil and Kasthuri leave saying they will return the next day. Bharath just stares ahead. THODARUM.

Nov 5(Mon):

IS THERE SOM EONE WHO CAN UPDATE THE FIRST SEGMENT/PART OF TODAY'S EPISODE? I MISSED IT AS THE TIME HAS CHANGED(USA FELL BACK AN HOUR ON SUNDAY!) AND FORGOT TO SET IT. THE SHOW BEGAN AN HOUR EARLY AND I MANAGED TO CATCH THE SECOND PART ONWARDS. SORRY!

Megala is in the living and Sumathi dances in, singing "Thee pidikka Thee pidikka muthum koduda!" and sits opposite her mother. Megala scolds her for singing that song as the lyrics are bad. She talks about people getting married and then the marriage getting into trouble. She then tells that Thanam and her brother has entered her home and taken over. She plans to send Thanam back home. She asks if Sumathi knows Thanam's home number and Sumathi says yes. Megala asks Sumathi to ring Thanam's house and she does. Vasugi picks up the line and Megala introduces herself but Vasugi doesn't recognize, so Megala tells her she is Thanam's MIL. Vasugi apologizes for not recognizing her. Suresh walks in and listens to the conversation, unknowing to both Sumathi and Megala. Megala insults Vishvanathan saying he had forgotten about his daughter after marriage. She tells Vasugi to tell Vishvanathan to take Thanam back to his house as she is pregnant. Vasugi tells her that she will inform Thanam's dad when he returns fromt he temple. Again Megala insults Vishvanathan. Thanam walks in and after listening for a few minute, snatches the phone from Megala and talks to Vasugi. She tells her aunt not to ask her father to come there as he has enough problems, and hangs up. Thanam then asks her MIL why she called her house and Megala says she did not make the call but only answered an incoming call. Suresh tells her not to lie because he was there and Thanam warns her MIL not to disturb her father anymore and leave. Megala tells Sumathi why Thanam had to come in the climax and spoil her plans.

Ram, Rekha and baby Santhosh come downstairs with packed bags and are met by Annamalai and Radha who wishes them a pleasant trip to Malaysisa and Singapore (All of you out there - be ready to strike! I want to know when they arrived and what has been done. ROJA, I appoint you the Comander of this mission - finish off Ram and Rekha there, with the help of our friends!).

Masil and Kasthuri arrive at Bharath's house and find it locked. They wonder where he has gone. Masil then asks one of Bharath's neighbor about Bharath. The lady tells him that he went out early in the morning and hasn't seen him yet. She asks why Kasthuri is coming there often and is told that she is taking lessons from Bharath. The lady asks of Kasthuri is Masil's daughter and he tells her yes. The lady advises Masil not to leave Kasthuri alone with Bharath as he is a drunkard and if he wants he should find someone else to tutor Kasthuri. Masil tells the lady that Bharath is a good man and one that respects women, drinking is only a habit. THODARUM.

NOTE: DO NOT LET RAM AND REKHA GET AWAY! AN IDEA - KIDNAP THEN AND SEND TO TIMBUKTU WITH NO WAY TO RETURN!

HAPPY DEEPAVALI TO MY IF FAMILY!

In yesterday's episode I missed out a part of the conversation between Annamalai and Rekha: After Ram and Rekha leave, Radha tells her husband that she is already missing her grandson, Santhosh. Annamalai asks why she did not follow them and Radha says she couldn't leave her husband behind. While they are talking, a man comes in and says he came to collect payment for the Malaysia/Singapore tickets and Annmalai gives him a personal check. Radha is confused and after the man leaves, she asks Annmalai why he paid with his personal check when the trip was paid by their busness parter in Singapore. Annamalai explains that he lied to Rekha and Ram because he wanted them to go for a holiday. He finds that this is one way to bring Rekha and Ram closer and that he is doing what every fatgher will do to keeps his daughter's marriage happy and healthy. Radha tells her husband not to worry as God will bless them because they have not done anything wrong(Radha seems to have selective amnesia here!).

Nov 6 (Tues):

Masil tells Bharath's neighbor not to judge him because of his habits but to give him a chance. He then takes Kasthuri home. Jothi wants to know why Kasthuri is back so early and Masil explains the reason. Jothi gets angry and tells her husband, if Bharath continues this way, when will Kasthuri be educated? Masil tells her he will give Bharath another chance and if this persists, he would take Kasthuri to Chennai and find her a teacher there.

Jothi is still not convince and tells her husband, but Masil tells her that Bharath is way better than some man who are highly educated but fail to take care of their wife and leave them. He also says that Bharath is a better person than Ram so Jothi should not talk about Bharath that way. Bharath comes in and apologises
for not being there as he had to go to the next town on some business. Masil tells him it is okay and gives Bharath some money but Bharath refuses but Masil insists as it is 'guru thachanai'. Kasthuri to insists saying she will not come for class if he does not take the money. KAsthuri informs Bharath that her FIL will be buying English newspaper for her to read. Bharath accepts and tells Kasthuri come the next day and leaves.

Next morning KAsthuri wakes up and finds the days newspapers and reads it. Masil and enters and asks if she is happy and Kasthuri says she is and reads the papers to him (I am confused again - it was supposed to be english papers but Kasthuri is reading a tamil paper? 😕) She reads to her in-laws about the India-Australia cricket game and poke some fun at Jothi who doesn't know about the game.

Megala as usual in her living room when Vishvanathan and Vasugi arrive to visit Thanam. Megala as usual throws her insults at them. (It was very upsetting to see and hear the dialogs.) Both the visitors are so patient (I am too angry to even write the dialogs, so forgive me!). Thanam and Siva walk out of the room to see the visitors and happily invite them in. Siva asks Thanam to take her father and aunt inside and talk as he has to go out for a while. They asks Thanam and Siva about Suresh and is told that he had gone to school and when they ask about Sumathi, Megala gets angry, but Siva shuts her up. Thanam takes her father and aunt to her room and they talk. Sumathi walks in and see them and goes straigt to Thanam's room. Megala follows and watches from outside Thanam's room. Sumathi falls at Vishvanathan's feet and asks for blessing. He blesses her and she gets up happy. Megala is shocked and says how can Vishvanathan bless her daughter when his daughter is not living with her husband. She then thinks of dealing with Sumathi when she comes out. THODARUM.

Note: Sorry for the delay. I was making murukku and i became tired and went to sleep!

Of course, I will share the murukku with everyone of you, after all we are family!.

Looks like everyone's dream of a Kasthuri makeover will be seen in the near future!

Nov 7 (Wed):

Sumathi falls at Vishvanathan's feet and seeks his blessing. Megala sees this and fumes. She waits for Sumathi to come out and asks her why she did that and Sumathi tells her mom that it is okay to get blessing from elders and for her mom to take it easy. Megala says that Sumathi is spellbound by Suresh and that she will cure her with Vepallai soon!

Bharath's neighbor is lighting oil lamps around the house. She takes two lighted oil lamps into Bharath's house. Bharath who is sleeping wakes up and asks what she wants and the neighbor tells him that everyone had lighted up their house except Bharath and that she had brought 2 lamps for him. He tells he de doesn't need it and for her to leave but the neighbor convinces him and leaves the lamp in his house and also lights up the lamp at the altar. She then tells the irritated Bharath that she thinks that he will have a women who will light his house by next year. Bharath tells her to leave and refuse food offered by the lady. Bharath then goes into the kitchen looking for liquor but finds all the bottle empty. He then goes to his bag but finds it empty too except for a note that Kasthuri left, telling him not to drink anymore. Bharath gets angry and tears of the note.

Kasthuri arrives at Bharath's house the next morning and the neighbor lady tells Kasthuri that she had left two oil lamps at Bharath's house and also lighted the oil lamp on his altar as requested. Kasthuri thanks her and tells the lady that she could not do it herself as she was afraid of what Bharath might say. The lady tells her not to worry as it had been taken care of. Kasthuri enters the house and Bharath stops her and aks her if she came to study or do some other work. He asks Kasthuri if she has become smart enough to write a note to him. Kasthuri starts saying that he had taught her. Bharath tells her if she knows how to dress and Kasthuri tells him she can and that the people in her village will call her to dress their daughters up when they come of age. Bharath tells Kasthuri to behave and dress as an educated person and not talk unnecessarlly. He tells her that she should think before talking and to converse intelligently. He also tells her that she should think of herself as an educated person and be proud of her achievements. Kasthuri promises to change and they begin their lessons.

Jothi is ver sad and calls Ganesh and asks him if he has forgotten about her. Ganesh tells her not to be sad and that he will visit her soon. He asks Jothi about Kasthuri and is told that Kasthuri is now taking lessons, but she feels that Kasthuri is only laughing on the outside but inside is very sad. Ganesh tells Jothi not to worry because Ram would definitely come back to Kasthuri. Jothi hangs up.

Radha is waiting for everyone to come back. She calls Annamalai and asks where he is and Annamalai tells his wife that he is at the airport waiting for the luggage to arrive but in actual fact he is walking into the house with Ram, Rekha and baby Santhose (ROJA they escaped from you. How did this happen ma?). She turns around and sees them and welomes them. She enquires about their trip and Annamalai tells them to go upstairs and rest. He also tells Ram not to come to the office for the next few days but to rest. He continues to say that it is now enough to know how to earn money but should also know how to enjoy. Radha chips in saying why her husband only preaches but now follows hsi own words. She tells Annamalai that he had been promising her a world tour for 30 years but had never gone. Annamalai tells her they will go soon but Radha tells no and goes inside. Annamalai and his family are very happy playing fireworks and they wish everyone "HAPPY DEEPAVALI". THODARUM.

Nov 9 (Fri):

Kasthuri is praying, Jothi in the kitchen (as usual). Masil comes in and calls his wife and shows her a necklace that he had bought and asks if it is pretty. Jothi says it is very pretty and asks what it is for. Masil says it is for Kasthuri who is now studying and Jothi is happy. They call Kasthuri out and Masil gives her the necklace. Kasthuri refuses at first but accepts after they insist. Kasthuri goes in and Masil tells his wife that eveyone had forgotten that it was Kasthuri's wedding anniversary and that is why he had got her the necklace.
