Part3
He tried her phone.
Not reachable.
Where did she go?
College?
She had her semester holidays.
MM? Deepa? Was it possible? Where else?
He decided it was no point standing there thinking and got ready fast; grabbed his bike keys and came out of the room hurriedly and dashed into a fully dressed Thulasi, entering the house. Both of them looked at each-other, slowly rubbing their heads.
After a moment of the eyes trying to talk and failing to convey the much needed 'Sorry' and 'I love you';
Thulasi cleared her throat, "Uhm.."
He looked at her face. She seemed nervous and wasn't looking at his face.
Thulasi, "Naan.." There was a pause and she was strangling the tip of her shawl.
When he didn't utter anything; not even a, 'Where were you'; she inhaled deeply, gulped down her fear and turned to look at him, "Naan poren." Those two words hit as swords on his neck. Did she just say that or was he dreaming? To his horror, it wasn't his dream.
He just stared at her helplessly, blinking his eyes, trying to digest the thing she had just told him. Still, he didn't utter a word. He was speechless. She was leaving for real?! He pulled his shirt sleeve up and pinched himself and cried out in pain. He noticed. In other circumstances, Thulasi would have laughed at his little act. But now she was there standing looking away, lifeless. Why did she come back then? was the first question that came to his mind than pondering over the reason, which she had clearly explained yesterday to which he didn't even utter a word of comfort. There he was again not saying anything to her. He did a mind calculation as to what to do. Last time the xeroxed book had worked out. What now? Think something, Tamizh! Think before she leaves!
She took out a bundle from her handbag and handed it over to him, "Ithula 10 airum rupa iruku. Ithu veraikum neenga enaku selavu panatha naan epdiyavuthu masam masam kuduthiruren; with interest. Inthanga vechukonga."
Now; more than confused and sad, he was angry and frustrated at what she was doing.
Tamizh, "Enathu ithu? Kanaka neeya potutiya? Enga naan ithuveraikum unaku evalo selva panirukenu kanaku sollu."
She stood there silent , biting her teeth, controlling her anger. Just a word "kuttima" would have melted her; but here he was, as usual not comforting her when she need it the most.
He put the bundle on the table and turned to look at her, who was looking away. A naughty smile on his face.
