Zap2it First On the Scene

'The Vampire Diaries' Katerina Graham on Justin Bieber, 'Honey 2,' and 'Sassy'

Zap2it had exclusive access to the set of "The Vampire Diaries" in Atlanta, where the cast and crew is shooting the Season 2 premiere. Star Katerina Graham was sweet enough to stop by the location on her day off just to chat with me about her incredible summer.

It was humid and approaching 100 degrees on set, so I have to give her major props for bravely venturing out of the air conditioning for our interview in the backyard of the magnificent Lockwood mansion.

While some TV stars use their hiatus time to hang out by the pool or get into trouble in Hollywood, Kat doesn't seem to know the meaning of the word "vacation." Not only did she snag a lead role in "Honey 2," but she dropped her first single "Sassy" and, yes, made an appearance in Justin Bieber's "Somebody to Love" video.

"That's the homie," Graham says. "I've known him for a while and he's just a really cool dude." She's always grateful for an opportunity to show off her dance training, since Bonnie on "The Vampire Diaries" hasn't exactly been in a dance battle mood since the Salvatore brothers got her grandmother killed.

"I've always wanted to do a dance film," she says about "Honey 2," which also features Audrina Patridge from "The Hills." Kat's character, who she describes as a "hood chick," is 17-year-old Maria Bennett, who has a run-in with the law and then is inspired to dance when she returns to her childhood rec center.

Kat's own music career has been gaining momentum. "Sassy," was released on June 26 and has already generated serious buzz - and its own hashtag on Twitter. What more can you ask for?

Perez Hilton has quietly become a force in the music world using his platform to often expose new artists and songs to the world, sometimes even before radio. He was among the first to feature the music of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
Is there any artist that we should be on the lookout for who excites you?
Mike Posner
is one definitely. His album comes out in August and I'm really looking forward to that. I'm also loving this singer named Katerina Graham, who released this song I love called "Sassy" and I heard some of her other music and I'm loving it. It kind of reminds me of Janet Jackson. There's a modern day Madonna, and she's Lady Gaga, but there isn't a modern day Janet so I'm excited to see what else Kat Gram does. I also love Marina & The Diamonds. That will be a challenge to see if American radio will play her. She's not as accessible as Kat Graham or Mike Posner. Marina is a British singer who is kind of like a Regina Spector or a Tori Amos. But I love her and I think she's so phenomenally talented.

Popwrap caught up with Kat Graham today. Literally, they just interviewed her hours ago, and we thank them for getting this interview up so fast! She mostly talks about her new single, "Sassy" and her upcoming debut album, but she also talks about how she just got the new script for the first episode of The Vampire Diaries, and what we can expect from Bonnie.

PW: You caused a little Twitter-storm when you wrote "Just got the new script for Vampire Diaries!!"
Kat: Oh yea! I love the fans, I love that it's been months since it went off the air and they're still chomping at the bit for the second season, which by the way is insane.

PW: Does the first episode pick up right where we left off with Elena walking into the kitchen?
Kat: Yep [laughs], it's pretty insane. And I will say that Bonnie is really, really tough in the first episode back. She is not playing around. Bonnie will eff you up if you mess with her! She is also going to have to deal with Katherine. And that's a whole new beast. Literally.

PW: In the finale she made a very ominous threat to Stefan — will season two see her sticking to that?
Kat: Yea. She really means that – she's not going to help them any more.

PW: And I would imagine her powers will only continue to grow?
Kat: Oh yea, she's going to become even stronger. But it's important she stay vulnerable too. You don't want someone to raise hell with no motivation behind it. You can never forget the loss of a loved one and I don't think she'll ever get over losing her grams. That was her rock to this world. She wouldn't do anything simply out of a hate for vampires. I don't think she could ever justify that.

Vampire Diaries Season 2 Spoiler: Tyler Fights Over Bonnie & More

Tyler fights over Bonnie & more in this new CW "Vampire Diaries" season 2 spoiler. According to vampiresite.com, Tyler appears to be getting in a fight over a situation with Bonnie in season 2 of CW's hit "Vampire Diaries" TV show. Here's what's goin down. The CW is currently casting a new role for a character named Carter who is described as a handsome and rugged African-American carnival worker who flirts with Bonnie and picks a fight with Tyler.

The role is reportedly going to be filming between July 23rd and August 3rd. Now,judging from that description, it appears as though Bonnie and Tyler are hanging out at the carnival, and this Carter guy starts flirting with Bonnie. Why this turns into a fight with Carter has me wondering if Tyler is trying to possibly date Bonnie,or if the guy was just being rude.

Whatever the case, it's an interesting piece of drama info for the upcoming season 2. And it looks like Bonnie will be even more involved in this new season. Katerina Graham who plays Bonnie recently revealed that Bonnie is going to be even more powerful and tough. She will not be someone you wanna mess with. I like it already.

ComiCon.
When we last left Damon Salvatore on "The Vampire Diaries," he'd finally kissed Elena... or so he thought. Zap2it caught up with our good friend Ian Somerhalder at Comic-Con to talk about the fall-out from the big Katherine make-out.

"I think when he finds out that it wasn't Elena, he's going to be a little pissed off," Somerhalder says. But that doesn't mean Elena's the only one on Damon's mind. "He still wants Katherine, like an idiot. Love is a really blinding force. It forces us to do stupid things. Every single one of us has experienced it."

Perhaps it's time for Damon to learn from his mistakes instead of repeating history? "What I'd like to see is for him to realize that she's a crazy manipulative b****! Really, a lot of what he comes from, his traits, he learned from her. If he were able to look inward at himself he'd say those are not really high quality traits of a person," Somerhalder tells us.

The real kicker is this: In the season premiere, Damon is about to find out that Katherine didn't come back to Mystic Falls for him. She came back for Stefan.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this love triangle just became a love square.

"That's another thing that's just going to crush him. The alliance [between Stefan and Damon] may have to get stronger because she's going to wreak havoc for both of them. Whether Katherine wants Stefan or Damon, Stefan wants nothing to do with her, for the most part... until he does."

As for Damon's humanity, it only comes out when he's with Elena. "Nina Dobrev will do that to you," Somerhalder says, grinning.

Sometimes things are too incredible not to share: The signed Vampire Diaries pilot script auction ended only moments ago and the top bid hovered near $800 for most of the evening. Then, in the last ten minutes, there was flurry of furious bidding. The final result?

HUGE CONGRATS to the lucky winner and to Chloe and Amber of Vampire Support for rocking in those funds for the National Wildlife Federation! Next time someone tells you fandom can't make a difference? Tell 'em where to stick it.

Simon Miller Cast & David Anders Interview

Zap2it have announced that Simon Miller has been cast as the patriarch of the Lockwood pack, George Lockwood! His first episode will be the flashback episode, "Memory Lane" which will introduce the Lockwood's ancestors for the first time!

Miller, a professional photographer, is a relative newcomer to acting, though you might recognize him from short roles on "Gossip Girl" and "CSI" or his indie movie "Between Love & Goodbye."

TVFanatic also have a new interview with David Anders (Uncle John) who despite his grisly end last season will be returning.

What can we look forward to this season?
There's the big werewolf storyline cooking up. As far as I'm concerned, Elena walks in after Katherine slices my fingers off and stabs me and she's got a big decision to make. There's a lot of Katherine and Elena. Nina's got a lot of work.

David Anders does not know if his character on The Vampire Diaries is related to Katherine or not.

But the actor can confirm that he'll return for season two of The CW hit, which kicks off on September 9 and which you can watch a preview for HERE.

In an exclusive interview with TV Fanatic, the veteran TV star dishes on Uncle John and what the second season has in store for other residents of Mystic Falls…

What can we look forward to this season?
There's the big werewolf storyline cooking up. As far as I'm concerned, Elena walks in after Katherine slices my fingers off and stabs me and she's got a big decision to make. There's a lot of Katherine and Elena. Nina's got a lot of work.

Why did John kill Anna?
The fact that she's a vampire. He saw that she might have dragged my nephew into vampiredom. I don't think John approved of that. John is Jeremy's only male figure in his life, so he treats it like a father/son relationship. It was a hard decision for the producers to make, to let her character go.

Will Uncle John and Elena find a way to get along?

It's extremely difficult for Elena to see any good in me. I'm not well liked around Mystic Falls [laughs].

Were you approached for the role of John?
Yeah. They came to me. I knew Ian Somerhalder. He's a friend of mine, and I thought it would be fun to go out there and play vampire for a little bit. It proved to be just that. I was impressed with the level of acting on the show, and the writing and the dark, totally grounded in reality.

If you were in John's position, would you have made the same decisions he did?
No, probably not. I would look out for my daughter's best interest. John is so rooted with his thinking that vampires are the bane of anybody's existence. That's what he's been taught, and grew to believe. He's been conditioned and conditioned.

Vampire Diaries stars have Twilight to thank

The stars of the hit TV series Vampire Diaries admit that the success of Twilight helped their show to achieve success. Stars Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley had this to say to Digital Spy.

"I didn't see Twilight prior to shooting Vampire Diaries, but it would be ignorant and stupid to say that our show didn't generate a buzz because of the success of Twilight, but I think we have distinguished ourselves at this stage," Wesley told RTE.

Dobrev added: "But you know, the fact that Twilight was so successful, it made the world aware that people wanted to see more about vampires.

"So thankfully for us, Twilight has given us the opportunity to make a TV show and I think we have a few more years at least."

Wesley added that there were similarities between the two stories and admitted: "Some people say I actually look like Robert Pattinson.

"Well look, it's incredibly similar, we both have a high school setting, a mysterious guy that turns up and falls in love with a mortal girl. He's got all these conflicts because of the nature of his situation and the fact that she is a vampire. So I understand that the premises of both stories are almost identical."

He was unable to say who would win in a fight between Stefan and Pattinson's Edward Cullen because he "didn't know enough" about the Twilight vampire.

"That's really up to the viewer or reader to decide," he said.

Mason Interview

Keck's Exclusives: The Werewolf Diaries

Aug 23, 2010 11:37 AM ET
by William Keck

The Vampire Diaries
Don't get a Lockwood angry. You won't like them when they're angry. In The Vampire Dairies' September 9 premiere, Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) is surprised to see his long-absent, black sheep of the family Uncle Mason (Taylor Kinney) turn up for the funeral of his dad, the mayor. But a bigger surprise comes when Mason drops the bomb that werewolfism runs in the Lockwood bloodline!

Want more Vampire Diaries exclusives? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

"Mason has learned to harness his rage and is going to serve as a mentor to Tyler," says Taylor. "I've come to teach Tyler that there are choices he can make to control his destiny as a human...or otherwise."

Nina Dobrev (Elena/Katherine) adds, "Taylor's been adjusting really well. I don't envy when new people come [on set] because we've all already created this family bond, but everyone's really accepted him." The same won't hold true in Mystic Falls, reveals Ian Somerhalder (Damon). "Mason's a really nice guy, but Damon makes it difficult for him to be nice," says Ian. "He really pisses Damon off."

"Yeah, we don't get along," echoes Taylor. "Historically, the Salvatores haven't gotten along with the Lockwoods for ages, and having a new Lockwood in town doesn't sit well."

It hasn't been lost on him that he's following in the werewolf paw prints of another famous Taylor — Twilight hottie Taylor Lautner. "My brother gave me a few 'Team Jacob' magnets to mess with me," says Taylor, who apparently sports impressive abs of his own. "I don't know if I stack up to Mr. Lautner, but we'll see."

As for competing with all those sexy werewolves on a certain HBO series, Taylor says he finds it perplexing that "every time a werewolf takes off his pants on True Blood, he transforms." Mason's transformation will be more traditional—dependent upon a full moon. And the actor says he's well-equipped for his first howling scene. "I grow hair like crazy!"

Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder: Damon is in a 'vulnerable, ridiculous, horrible position'

By Carina Adly MacKenzie

|

September 2, 2010 3:52 AM ET

With only one week until the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere, it's time for another sneak peek at Zap2it's exclusive visit to the set of "The Vampire Diaries." I sat down with the always charming Ian Somerhalder to talk about what's up next for Damon.

In last spring's finale, we saw a new side of Damon when he confessed his feelings for Elena (Nina Dobrev). In Somerhalder's words, Damon put himself in a "vulnerable, ridiculous, horrible position." Somerhalder scoffs when I ask him if he likes Damon's softer moments.

"No, because then I feel like Stefan," he says. "With the scene on the porch, it wasn't hard kissing Katherine, but it was hard being vulnerable. It's so counter-intuitive for me now, as Damon, when I put on the clothes and the whole thing."

Unfortunately, his heartfelt confession fell on the wrong ears -- and on the wrong lips. So what's going to happen when Damon reveals that he kissed Katherine, the wolf in sheep's clothing?

"He's not going to be very happy, and most likely he's going to be hurt," Somerhalder says. "And when Damon's not happy and hurt, s*** goes down."

Which isn't to say that Katherine and Damon won't get it together and live out eternity in murderous monogamous bliss. "We're gonna work this out," he laughs. "Why not? Cops come twice a week, domestic violence..."
