Chapter 7
He waited for her answer, but she started to avoid eye contact...He tried to catch her gaze again...but she was shy, and he knew she would be. He knew she wouldn't immediately express her feelings, he wasn't even sure if she wanted to be with him for the rest of her life. She could have found momentary support in him, but her gestures showed otherwise. He decided to let it go for now, but Thapki had to tell him how she felt sooner or later. He gently picked up her arm, and started to swivel her bangles back and forth with gentle care, but in a playful manner. Thapki was silent. She observed him as he passed time, not moving away from her. She found it cute that he was amused by her choodiyan, and a little relieved that he decided to divert his attention elsewhere from the question he teasingly posed to her. She wanted to tell him the truth. She wanted to tell him that when Bihaan was hurt it felt like a million spears were passing through her pounding heart. She wanted to tell him more, but wasn't able to bring those thoughts into words. This was harder than she thought it would be, but she will continue to try to demonstrate her love through her actions, until she builds up the courage, and finds the absolute perfect time to deliver her message in words. His phone rang breaking the delicate conversation the two were having with their movements.
Bihaan: Acha, hum abhi Chuu...he stopped himself smirking as he looked into her eyes, ha Thapki humaare pass hi hai, hum abhi usse phone dete hain...
Thapki: Maaa, papa theek hai??? She looked at Bihaan who was already holding her hand squeezing it tight assuring that everything was okay...
Her mother explained that the surgery is almost over, and so far her father is doing well, and if as planned per the doctors, he would get a discharge within 72 hours. Hearing this Thapki felt like a huge weight had been taken off her shoulders... but then she knew that her father had been taken to the city's best Hospital. She was their daughter right? She could pay all the bills. But what did she have of her own? Everything that belonged to her now was just temporary, the status, the mansion, the PANDEY name, and their wealth was not hers, and she never thought of it as hers.
Bihaan saw the worry in her soft angelic eyes...he knew what it was for. Over the past two and a half months he never gave her the keys. He should have, how did he forget to do the most important thing? It was his responsibility as a husband to provide for his wife. It was guilt, and shame that probably kept him from handing those keys over to her. Because really, what has he done to earn it? Yes, he helped Bauji every now and then, but was that enough? Looking at Thapki for the first time he desired a family, a family that he would be the head of one day...and for that he had to work. SO what if school didn't workout for him, there is a family business. He has to start involving himself more, taking initiative, and one day along with his brothers, allowing Bauji to completely retire.
She squeezed his hand tighter unknowingly...
Bihaan: Thapki? Tumhein papa ki chinta ho rahi hai? Chalo hum vopus Hospital Chalte hain...
Thapki: Papa ko hosh ajaayega, mmmaaa nnne kaha ki, sab theek ho raha hai, jaise doctors ne socha tha.
Bihaan: To phir? He wanted to make sure that the reason he assumed was really the root of her worries.
She didn't know how to tell Bihaan what she was worried about, her Brother earned, he would think of something, he would dedicate his entire savings for his father. But then his future? Thapki wanted the best for him.
Bihaan tried, but he knew Thapki would never say it. She needed to figure out a way, to help her brother and sister pay the debt coming their way.
Thapki let go of Bihaan's hand...wanting some time alone...
Thapki: Bihaan...kya mein kuch der akele reh sakti hoon? Searching for approval in his eyes?
Bihaan was just worried, not because she needed time alone, but because he knew why she was upset, and didn't know how to tell her that everything that belongs to him, belonged to her the day she set her foot in the house. Even though he didn't feel anything for her, even though he married her without her consent. Despite all of this, he still considered her his wife, temporary or NOT. But he never gave her the keys, he would have but was always afraid she wouldn't accept them.
Bihaan: ha koi baat nahi, tum aaraam karo hum sab naukaro ko phone laga ke aate hai, unki chuttiyan khatam hogayi na...kuch der mein aate hain...
Thapki broke out a fake smile, she didn't want him to know. As much as her heart desired to share her problem, this time her reasoning, her logic commanded that she keep it a secret.
Bihaan knew what he had to do, he quickly called the driver, and they instantly drove off to complete what Bihaan decided. He knew that Bauji might have already took care of the situation, but Bauji was also in shock, so he might have not yet understood the delicate situation Thapki's family would be going through.
And Bauji had not forgotten, as Bihaan approached the Hospital he saw Bauji discussing the papers at the Hospital with the Billing manager.
Bihaan: Bauji, is baar zimmedari hum lenge, ye humaara bhi to parivaar hai, kuch dinon keliye hi sahi
Bauji: Bihaan, beta iski zimmedari lene keliye tumhein mehnat to karni padegi, kyunki paise to hum donon ke ek hai, bas mehnat ki kami hai.
Bihaan: Bauji, hum aapke saath Bujiness karenge...
Bauji: Dekha, mera beta sudhar gayaa, main jaanta tha THAPKI ke aate hi, ki tum ab zimmedari zaroor loge. Beta, abhi mere yaha se hilna mushkil hai, to shimla ke kaam kaaj tum zara dekh kar aao, mein Sanjay ko tumhaare saath bejhunga sab sikhaane keliye, hum khud jaana chaahte the, lekin ab humse hawaai jahaaz mein safar kam hota hai. Isiliye tum chale jao. Sirf do din ka kaam hai. Aur uske baad farm house ki vaivasta thodi si badalni hai. Sab mehman vahi therenge na, isiliye. Samdhan ji ne kaha hai ki, yeh sab hua lekin shaadi nahi rookni chaahiye, hummare dhruv bete ki bhi kuch khushiyan poori karnge kyun nahi?
Bihaan: Theek hai bauji hum chale jaayege.
Bauji: Acha Beta, aaj shyam 9 baje ki do ticket le li hai Sanjay ne.
Bihaan felt a sense of fulfillment, this was the first time he was doing something for his wife with his "own" earnings. It would be his first salary. He never considered the money in the house separate from him, but he always appreciated it. He only accepted what Bauji gave to him, and never expected more. He could give her the keys now. Yes, that was the first thing he would do when he would get home.
Thapki was going through all of her jewelry, trying to decide which piece she could sell to accumulate enough money, to help her brother with the bills.
He opened the door swiftly, in excitement, to finally hand over the keys to his beloved wife, but he saw all the boxes spread out over the bed, and it broke his heart, that she would rather come to this conclusion, than to just share her problem with him. It angered him. It angered him that she didn't have an ounce of trust left for him? He did deserve doubt, but not complete mistrust from her, not after all that they have been through together.
Bihaan didn't want to say anything, He saw Thapki shuffling through the bag she had never emptied. This was it, he couldn't take it anymore. With all the power he had he lifted the bag with one hand and dumped everything on the ground.
Thapki: Bihaan, Bbbihaan, ye tum kya kar rahe ho?
Bihaan: Ha hum jaante hain, hum jaante hai ki tum sirf do hafte keliye yaha ho lekin bas ab hume ye bag passand nahi hai. Phek do isse , nai bag laadena. He took the keys out of his pocket and opened up a part of the closet that she had never seen before, completely empty hangers. With a little safe at the bottom right corner.
Bihaan started to pick up her clothes, jewelry, one by one, and Thapki stopped him, nodding her head. She didn't want him to touch her clothes. out of shyness or out of respect? She didn't know, but she just didn't want him to help. He left what was on the ground, but took her jewelry off the bed, and started to neatly place it one of the drawers.
Thapki: Bihaan, Bihaaan, voh sab mein karlungi, main rakhdoongi...
Bihaan: Theek hai, ye lo chaabi, or haan...he opened the safe, and showed her something...yeh rahe hum dono ke paise, apne liye choodiyan khud khareeda karo ab, humse mat umeed rakhna...ismein bahut zyaada paise hai bauji jo bhi humein dete hai hum usse is mein rakhte hai...ismein bank ke kaagaz bhi, checkbook bhi hai lekin is sab ki keemat tumhein kya, tumhein to apne gehne hi bechne hai na? Bechdo, tumhaari marzi... P se PAAGAL ho, air P se PAAGAL hi rahogi. HUM JAA RAHE HAI, aaj 9 baje HUMARI FLIGHT HAI, aur hume packing karni hai, isiliye jaldi se ye sab nipta lo, taaki hum yaha aakar apni packing karsake. Samjhi Chuk Chuk? and he stormed off with a Rage, she was all too familiar with now.
She just stood there...stunned, not being able to comprehend all his expressions at once, he was angry, caring, taunting, and giving all at the same time... It was attractive. His anger, was not out of hatred, but she sensed his love, her typical BIhaan's love in every word that came out of his mouth today. Even his taunt about the choodiyan, brought melodious music to her ears rather than the hurt and pain she was expecting to feel. She felt a completeness that she had been craving for years. How did he know her problem without having to express it? It still astonished her, how connected they were. How she could feel his pain, and he could sense her worries, how did this happen? When did this happen? Her faith and belief in destiny strengthened, and she knew what was meant to be, would be, even if they both tried to stop themselves.
Just then his words started to ring in her head...aaj 9 BAJE HUMARI FLIGHT HAI...AAJ 9 BAJE HUMAARI FLIGHT HAI...Oh no, it was already 2PM. Bihaan still had to shower, get ready, pack eat, and get leave for the airport by 7. Knowing Bihaan she was sure that this was going to be hard for him, he's not exactly the quickest when it comes to packing. But how long was he going to stay?? She remembered Sanjay bhai talking about going on a trip for a couple days, she assumed that it would be the same trip, Thapki started to pack. There was a sense of joy in packing for Bihaan, she packed a couple suits, a red and badge tie with a red shirt. She packed a simple white shirt, to go with her favorite black suit. She wanted to pack the brown jacket, but he gave that to her, she would keep it. She continued to lovingly pack every outfit, every accessory, and items Bihaan would need. It was 4 PM and no sign of Bihaan. She headed downstairs, no sign of Bihaan, went to the Game room, no sign of Bihaan, she looked in every room no sign of Bihaan. Finally, she went to the chat and found a sad, hurt Bihaan laid down. She remembered the day they broke the bed, she was glad that those uncomfortable days were over, but she was afraid of all of the misunderstandings that were coming their way.
THAPKI: BIHAAn, tum...TUmhaari packing maine kardi...ab tum naahlo, aur...kuch khaalo...
Bihaan: Hume nahi khana
Thapki: Acha to nahlo
Bihaan: Tum Jaao yaha se, to hum jaate hain...he said with his cute annoyed voice, that made thapki want to pull his cheeks, and pinch his nose. But of course she didn't want to irritate him further.
Bihaan came out fresh to the Kitchen, but as soon as he saw Thapki, he turned around and walked right out...
Thapki didn't want him to be hungry Just because she was there...
Thapki: Main...jaa rahi hoon, tim khi lo, and she left avoiding eye contact.
He was still upset with her. But he knew he had to eat, because he hated airplane food. Thapki's food was ten times tastier, and better for his stomach. He ate with satisfaction, and wanted to kiss her hands for making such amazing food for him, packing his bag, and even leaving him alone to deal with his rage...
Sanjay bah was home, and in no time it was time for Bihaan to leave...Thapki wanted to say goodbye, but was afraid he didn't want to see her.
Bihaan wanted to hold Thapki in his arms one last time before he left, but dhruv, and both bhabhis were saying goodbye to them, how could he slip away to go upstairs and quickly see her.
She couldn't stop herself from at least seeing him before he left...She ran down the stairs...wanting to run straight into his arms, but realizing that she couldn't do that because Bihaan was hurt, and everybody was watching. He saw her run down the stairs in haste, he didn't want her to fall...he waited until she stepped safely on the ground...
Badki: Dekho Bihaan devarji, Thapki agai, jaake bye kehdo...shaadi ke baad pehli baar jaa rahe aap use chodke...and she gigggled...
Bihaan and Thapki both walked towards each other...she didn't know what to tell him, and he didn't know what to tell her...
Bihaan: Hum chalte hain...
Thapki was looking down, she didnt want to look into his eyes, because she was afraid what kind of feelings it would bring, and start to control her senses.
Bihaan: Apna Khyaal Rakhna...and he turned around...He was gone...
Thapki wasn't able to say anything, she wasn't even able to say bye...This wasn't going to be easy at all. She wished that he had left not upset with her, she wished he said goodbye when the two were alone, she missed him the second he left...how would she spend two days without him? But she had to, she decided that she would make trips to the hospital to pass her time. Take care of her father, her family.
Bauji and MA returned home...
Bauji: Tum kuch din apne ghar jaana chaahogi Thapki bitiyan? Shaadi ka kaam chalta rahega? Aur do dinon ke baad functions bhi shuru ho jaayege? Tum chaar paach din ho aao...
Vasu: Ha Thapki, tumhein jaana chaahiye, aur vaise bhi Bihaan bhi nahi hai, aur ghar pe zaroorat bhi hogi, isiliye isse acha tumhein moka nahi milega, hoo aao
Thapki: Theek hai, agar bauji, ma aap kehhh rrrhae hho to, main kuch din jaati hu, it would be a good break... then her and Aditi could attend some of the parties from Home. Her mom and dad would stay home and rest.
The first day was easily passed, she missed him but because she hadn't been home in two months there were so many stories to tell, about Bihaan especially. The hardest part was the very first Night. She was sleeping on a bed, and there was no Bihaan to look at through the space between the ground and bed. He wasn't laying across on the other side. She was on a bed. It felt nice to sleep there, but the empty, hollow feeling was eating her up on the inside. She decided that it wasn't too late right? she could call him? No, he was mad at her, and didn't even let her properly say goodbye. She should be Mad at him too, he should be the one calling to make sure she was okay...but she was worried about him too, was he doing okay? Did he eat properly? It was his first business trip, was he learning everything properly?
Bihaan was thinking of her in the hotel room. Should he call her? His anger had melted away the second he left for the airport. He missed her too deeply, to stay disappointed with her. He couldn't stop himself from pressing the call button...
She instantly picked up the phone without even looking at who it was...there was silence on both ends...a comfortable one, a one that both found solace in, but he head to hear her voice...so he decided to break it...
Bihaan: Thapki...
Bihaan: Hmmm
Bihaan: Tum theek ho?
Thapki: Tumse kya matlab?
Bihaan sighed: TUM seedhe seedhe jawab nahi de sakti, hum tumhein Paagal bulaate hai lekin hum khud paagal hai, jo tumhaara khayal bhi poochte hai... and he hung up... just like that...
She shook her head, and decided to call him back...
Bihaan: KYa hai. jaldi bolo, humein neend aa rahi hai...
Thapki: Bihaan, vvvoh. Mujhe tumhaari...and she froze...as she felt the tears roll down her eyes...she didn't expect herself to miss him this much. How can living with a complete stranger for two months bring so much attachment? This was the magic of marriage, she had never believed it to be this strong, but it existed, and now she was a proof of that existence.
Bihaan knew she was crying...and he knew exactly how to stop it...
Bihaan: Pata hai, yaha shimla mein bahut zyaada maza aa raha hai...
Thapki was a little lost...
Bihaan: Matlab yaha ki parties achii hai, yaha ka mausam, yahan ki ladkiyyaaan...sab BAHUUUT P se PYAARA hai...
Thapki started to fume with anger, her nose started to turn red, and she wanted to yell at him, in no time her tears were gone, and Bihaan was successful with his mission.
Thapki: Tum vahan ladkiyon ko dekhne keliye gaye ho?
Bihaan: Kyun? humaari aankein hai, hum jisse chaahein usse dekh sakte hein, aur humaari kismat achhi hai, abhi to ek Pooora din baaki shimla mein guzaarne keliye...
Thapki: THEEK hai, tumhaari aankein, tumhaara waqt, tumhaara phone, jisse chaahein usse dekho, jisse chaahon usse baatein karo, sorry tumhara time waste kiya, Gggoood NNNiggghtt, aur Gggoood bbbye...
She decided it wasn't worth wasting her sleep on what he said, of course he wasn't serious and just trying to irritate her. He will never be serious in his life...she squeezed her Pillow tight, naming it Bihaan in her head, punching it, then squeezing it tight again, and falling asleep wondering what he was up to.
end of chapter 7
Bihaan laughed thinking about how upset she sounded just because he said the word ladkiyaan, and slowly drifted off to sleep keeping her beautiful eyes in his mind...
Precap is still the same ( Sorry, I have to be like the creatives because I wasn't able to write enough to get to this part...i have finals forgive me...tehehehe) Also all of this was needed before we dive into the next chapter...it was setup for what's going to happen next...
Precap:
She was wearing silver sparkly high heels, with a mauve silky dress that came up above her knee to her mid-thighs. She had a tall slender figure, and her hair was big, bold, and styled like she came out of a vogue magazine. Thapki saw the resemblance between her and Shraddha, they were both equally beautiful. Thapki looked at her sea green and white anarkali, and felt like she was under dressed, she didn't really understand why her and Bihaan were invited, and where was Bihaan? He promised he would be here after helping Bauji with refurnishing the farmhouse for important guests...She missed him, hoping he would be missing her too.
