In Hinduism, the original Ramayana was written by Sage Valmiki... Of course it has transcended centuries and I am not sure whether even the original script is available or not... Compared to that I think Islam is slight more newer... Hinduism is more than 5000 years old if I am not wrong... So getting original transcripts are rather impossible. And of course there are different versions, basically the same original story being retold by different authors from different perspectives. Siya ke Ram is Ramayana from Sita's perspective, I doubt whether the essence would change.
Thanks for the clarification 😉 Yesterday, I was wondering why your content got removed... I think something's wrong with IF? 😆
This is complete new territory for me, and it's rather intriguing. Yes, I agree, since it's already so old, the chances of having the original script at hand are most likely non-existence. I mean, I remember that the oldest collection of hadiths we have was collected not that long after the prophet [s] and was even testified as authentic by one of his successors, years later, but it's pretty obvious that throughout the history [where books/hadiths got burnt etc...], people have tempered with the collection- hence, why the rijal-system for authenticating narrations is so important. A similar system for scripts like Ramayan would be pretty difficult, I imagine.
Are you watching Siya ke Ram? And hm. As I said, the perspective with which you guys regard the different re-tellings is pretty fascinating 😉 Btw, how are the works of Devdutt Pattainak? Like, Jaya? I know that's about the Mahabharat, but still. Do you know it?
I think once I find enough time, I surely will have a look at it! I do like myths of all kinds and since I am already venturing towards the East (after a "life-time" of West) for research purposes, I can also dig into other cultures around.
@Dplee: Thank you, too 😉 And have you ever read Vergil or Ovid? Vergil's Aeneis has references to the Odyssee in the sense that Aeneas is from the Trojan side and sets out with the survivors of the war - and becomes one of the forefathers of the Romans, later on (through his son whom Caesar apparently regards as his ancestor).
@Sid: GOT? 😆 Do you want to traumatise Katori 😛 Jokes aside, GOT should only be watched if you have a strong heart and don't get attached to characters (easily) so that you can over-come the mass-murder of characters that is done in that 😉 Though, I'm only familiar with the books - never watched the show.
@Akib: Yes, I know Rumi. Having the fascination with Iran that I have and with the Farsi language, how was I not to know Rumi? 😆 I have read bits and pieces of his poetry around and intended to try get my hand on a good translation (you don't know any with the Farsi original and English translation in once?) but then, I stumbled upon Ay. Khomeini's [r] mystical poetry and have been reading that, lol.
Generally, I am reading too many things at once
