Guys, sorry for the late reply! Prayed Fajr and went to sleep, lol 😛

@Akib: Well, my parents are from Pakistan and my family has lived there for some generations though, I could follow my family roots back to Iran and maybe Arabia. So, I don't have any problems with understanding Hindi as it's similar to Urdu. Trying to learn Arabic and after that, I want to learn Farsi.

What about yourself?

@Dplee: Yes, I know Riordan! I read the first two (?), at least, one of them, books of the PJO series. He has another about the Egyptian gods and now, Magnus Chase. People complain that his stories follow the same pattern, so it's getting boring but since I've hardly read anything buy him, I could give Magnus Chase a chance 😆

That depends. Homer's Odyssee and Ilyas are classics! And Vergil's Aeneis is what we read in school, advanced Latin class, and I loved it. Do you want go read classics?

Thanks for the suggestion! I have always wondered... so, Ramayan or Mahabharat would also be considered religious texts? There is this new show airing on StarPlus, Siya ke Ram, and I occasionally look into their forum- it's rather fascinating how people regard the fact that there are so many different versions of their books. I mean, being Muslim, I know how important it is in Islam to check the authentity of everything you read (except the Quran) and the science we use for it is intriguing, to say the least [not that I could use it myself, rigt now, lol] - so, this stark contrast is interesting to me 😊

In Hinduism, the original Ramayana was written by Sage Valmiki... Of course it has transcended centuries and I am not sure whether even the original script is available or not... Compared to that I think Islam is slight more newer... Hinduism is more than 5000 years old if I am not wrong... So getting original transcripts are rather impossible. And of course there are different versions, basically the same original story being retold by different authors from different perspectives. Siya ke Ram is Ramayana from Sita's perspective, I doubt whether the essence would change.

Amina, already read and love homer. If you want to read Ramayana, Tulsidas's Ramayana is the best and authentic.

May be it is just me... Need to find something interesting to do.

Hey🤗

Why don't you watch Hollywood TV series. I do that whenever I get bored with the usual Indian TV shows.😆
Try watching Game of Thrones.😆
Focus more on the storyline and not on the explicit content😃

Thanks for the clarification 😉 Yesterday, I was wondering why your content got removed... I think something's wrong with IF? 😆

This is complete new territory for me, and it's rather intriguing. Yes, I agree, since it's already so old, the chances of having the original script at hand are most likely non-existence. I mean, I remember that the oldest collection of hadiths we have was collected not that long after the prophet [s] and was even testified as authentic by one of his successors, years later, but it's pretty obvious that throughout the history [where books/hadiths got burnt etc...], people have tempered with the collection- hence, why the rijal-system for authenticating narrations is so important. A similar system for scripts like Ramayan would be pretty difficult, I imagine.

Are you watching Siya ke Ram? And hm. As I said, the perspective with which you guys regard the different re-tellings is pretty fascinating 😉 Btw, how are the works of Devdutt Pattainak? Like, Jaya? I know that's about the Mahabharat, but still. Do you know it?

I think once I find enough time, I surely will have a look at it! I do like myths of all kinds and since I am already venturing towards the East (after a "life-time" of West) for research purposes, I can also dig into other cultures around.

@Dplee: Thank you, too 😉 And have you ever read Vergil or Ovid? Vergil's Aeneis has references to the Odyssee in the sense that Aeneas is from the Trojan side and sets out with the survivors of the war - and becomes one of the forefathers of the Romans, later on (through his son whom Caesar apparently regards as his ancestor).

@Sid: GOT? 😆 Do you want to traumatise Katori 😛 Jokes aside, GOT should only be watched if you have a strong heart and don't get attached to characters (easily) so that you can over-come the mass-murder of characters that is done in that 😉 Though, I'm only familiar with the books - never watched the show.

@Akib: Yes, I know Rumi. Having the fascination with Iran that I have and with the Farsi language, how was I not to know Rumi? 😆 I have read bits and pieces of his poetry around and intended to try get my hand on a good translation (you don't know any with the Farsi original and English translation in once?) but then, I stumbled upon Ay. Khomeini's [r] mystical poetry and have been reading that, lol.

Generally, I am reading too many things at once

I didn't eve know that my content was removed 😆. Does the content hurt anyone's religious, sentiments? I doubt! I didnt write anything controversial!
Anyways, I don't watch Siya Ke Ram. I actually am interested in reading Ramayan from Sitas' perspective. From a woman's perspective and what all she went thru and would a woman want Lord Ram for a husband, etc, etc, - intriguing... I'm sure its controversial - my last part of the statement! Its actually a shame to say something like that being a Hindu...
Devdutt Pattanaik's works is supposed to be good... It has been recommended to me by a friend, which I am yet to read. Mahabharath is much more interesting and complex than Ramayan I would say - In fact my favourite as a story is the Mahabharath.

Nope, there was nothing controversial there and neither a statement that hurt anyone 😆 I noticed this "Content Removed" a lot in the Siya Ke Ram forum in posts which I, personally, found completely alright. Very strange 😆

Devdutt Pattainak has a book called Sita, I think. Are you referring to the "exile" Sita was put in after people talked about her character? I read that that's regarded critically especially by today's generation and with feminism on the rise.

Honestly? From what I have heard, Mahabharat does sound more interesting to me simply because it seems to be more complex 😛 Hence, why I was interested in Jaya.

You know, I once held a presentation about Hinduism in school, it's been a long while, and the scripts especially important I mentioned, I think, were the Vedas, Puranas etc... But to be frank, it was a simple presentation.

LOL..no. Katori, watch GOT at your own risk😆

You read the books, hats off, bhai.😆 I brought book 5, but couldn't get over the first few pages. Maybe because I had already watched all five seasons. Strong heart, tell me about it. I cried for days when Rob Strak died, but then eventually I got adjusted to the amount gruesome murders and now I watch only for the politics and Tyrion😉
