Taani's P.O.V:
"Get up, Anurag", I yelled on the phone. "You've promised me to go shopping with me".
"Oh, yes, sorry, where are you now?" he spoke while letting out a loud yawn.
"I'm on my way to your home", I said sounding a little dull.
"All right, I'll be ready when you get home", he replied back and I cut the call.
The last thing Anurag ever wanted is, shopping. He hates it and also discourages his friends who had decided to go shopping with their girlfriends. Girlfriends of his friends would come to me and complain about him.
Then you might wonder how he had accepted to shop with me. It was a tragic as well as an interesting story.
Just like how Anurag hates shopping, I hate his mobile phone and calls from his office. He is too business minded and often thinks about the ways to promote his business.
The only thing I always demand from him is, some time to spend with him. It takes so much pleading and cajoling to take him out with me.
One day, after a long time waiting in his office to finish his work, we both headed out for a dinner. After the dinner, we decided to take a walk.
It was very long since we both walked hand in hand. I was really in need of Anurag's presence with me because, I had to gain some confidence and strength to write my exam next day.
We spoke about a lot of things. He inquired me about my studies and I asked him about his project. The conversation flowed without any flaws.
That is when his phone rang. I stopped walking and turned to him to glare at him.
He raised his index finger mentioning to excuse him for a minute and moved few inches back and attended the call.
He spoke, spoke, and spoke. He went on talking and came back after a half an hour of time after giving instructions to his subordinates.
He gestured to walk back and we started to walk again.
Again, we caught on a topic and minutes flew.
Now, his phone rang again.
He looked at me pleadingly; I opened my mouth to ask him to cut the call. But before I could even open, he covered my mouth from talking and again took few steps back to talk.
I waited with my arms hugging my body.
He came back and we resumed walking.
"Please switch your phone off, Anu", I pleaded.
"What were we talking about?" he tried to change the topic.
"I said switch your phone off", I remained stubborn and pointed to his phone.
"There won't be any call. Let's go", he said hurriedly to divert my mind.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
Definitely, I don't want his phone to ring again. It has been ages since we both came out. We always fix an appointment, he would cancel it in the last minute and I would spend a night weeping in disappointment.
"Sure, Sure", he held my shoulder and turned to the direction we are supposed to walk.
I laughed at his behavior and hugged him. He is sometimes too irresistible and cute. Whatever he does, it would result in robbing my heart all over again.
We took slow steps with my head resting on his shoulder. His hand was around my waist and he spoke which are more than enough to make my stomach hurt by laughing.
That is when it again happened. His stupid phone rang.
I took the phone from his pocket, shoved it in his hands and pulled him. "Go!"
Tears burned the back of my eyes. I hugged my body again and turned to the other side.
He knows that I'll be upset. But I don't want him to take it seriously. After all, he gave me everything. The most important factor is love. Which made my life complete.
He touched my shoulder and I wiped the tears quickly.
"I switched my phone off", he said with all innocence in his face.
Without a word I looked at him blankly. Intensely.
He gazed in return and pulled out his phone to show me that he really did switch it off.
I looked at the phone and again looked at him.
"Okay, to compensate what I did today, I promise you to go shopping with you after your exams", he caressed my face. I slowly turned my face to ignore his caressing. He pulled my jaw again too close to his face and told, "You know how much I hate going to shopping. But I'll come for you", he declared.
This is how it happened.
I was excited and jumping since my exam got done expecting to go out with him.
But now I'm calling him and he is replying as if he never remembered his promise.
I reached his house and called him without getting in.
He didn't attend the call instead he cut it off.
I furrowed my eyebrows and decided to go in to check out what was happening.
When I got out of the car, he suddenly pulled me by my waist and held me close to him. I didn't expect this and was breathing heavily.
"What are you doi-", he cut me off.
"You look gorgeous, today", He looked sincerely into my eyes.
"Only today?" I retorted looking back into his deep brown eyes.
"I thought you'll be happy hearing this and cancel the plan", he said with a smirk and started to run around the car seeing me, who got ready to slap him.
I frowned at him and started to run behind him to get him. "You really do have the guts!"
"Okay, Okay, I was just kidding", he stopped storming and reversed to hug me.
I hugged him back and asked him to drive.
We reached the boutique and went in.
"You have so many dresses in your closet. Why you want more? Any special occasion?" Anuarag asked.
"No. I watched a movie yesterday. The lead actress wore plain salwars without designs and it looked very pretty. So, I wanted to buy something for me like that", I replied sincerely to him.
He made a face and replied, "You are wrong. Say 'it looked pretty on her'".
I glared at him and he spoke to the sales girl as if he never noticed my expression. "Hello Miss, can you please show us some plain salwars?" He turned to me, "That is what you looking for, right?"
I nodded still glaring at him. He grinned back at me and looked at the salwars which the sales girl spread out for better view.
He took out a green colored plain salwar and asked me to try it out. I went to the trial room and wore it.
One thing I always feel happy about is, if he comes with me, he contributes himself to me to the fullest. He participates in everything properly even be it choosing dresses for me.
I came out straightening the dress and looked at him for the approval.
Anurag stared at me and intently came towards me. I sent a quick prayer that I should look pretty to his eyes. I always doubt that.
He came close to me. He shoved his hand into his pockets.
With a naughty smile playing on his lips, he told, "Color of leaves. Color of your nerves. Color, that drives me crazy when it is on you. Color, which tells me your approval".
I turned numb and all red at his sudden romantic behavior and looked down at the floor.
"Try this", he stretched to me a red colored plain salwar with the same intent look.
Without a word, I took it from his hand and returned with red on me.
"Color of a parrot's beak. Color of a fresh rose. Color of a new born baby's feet. It's the color of your anger", he recited like a poem and walked around me.
Next, he handed me the yellow one. Like a mesmerized victim, I came back with the yellow salwar on me.
He leaned on the counter and told, "Color of twilight. Color of burning flame. Color of your gold earrings. Color of the evening moon which's rays will rest on your chest."
He next extended to me a blue plain salwar. As usual, I wore it and rushed to him to listen what he will say.
"Color of wave less sea. Color of cloud less sky. Color of peacock's neck. It's the color of your eyes."
My heart slammed at my rib hearing those words and I already started to wait for him to hand me over the next color.
Black. It was the next.
I rushed back with fast heartthrob.
"Color of the night. Color of the rainy season. Color of your kajal. Color of the sparrow that sings in the sun. Color of your hair which makes me forget my way to get out of it."
Tears burned the back of my eyes when he extended to me a white colored salwar. My eyes turning teary and my nose turning red I almost snatched it from his hands and ran towards the trial room.
I sank on the floor hugging the dress. All these time my body was trembling in nervous and I was now heartful after listening all his words that overflowed from his heart.
I doubted myself whether I can take what he'll say for the white. I thought he pays no attention to me. But never felt him noticing me with so much intense and love filling eyes.
I slowly looked at the dress. I know he'll be waiting out there for me. And I know very well that he already knows why I'm taking so long to come out.
I wore the dress, took a deep breathe and strolled towards him slowly with all shaking anatomy with unknown nervousness.
He was watching outside the window. "Anurag", I called out almost like whisper.
He turned, came to me and cupped my face.
I felt like my heart is going to jump out of my body through my eyes. I was staring at him shamelessly expecting what his soft lips are going to spill out.
He parted his lips to say, "Color of a mushroom that comes out in rain. Color of half the eye. Color of the fresh cotton which is soft and pure like your heart and thoughts. Yes, it's a color of your heart".
His eyes emerged a small tear. I was teary already. My face was red with shyness and love that I felt like I cannot hold it into myself anymore.
I ran into his chest and cried like a baby.
He rubbed my back gently and turned to the sales girl, "Pack all the colors", I looked up at him for which he replied, "You looked gorgeous in all the colors."
I pulled myself back and he gently caressed my cheek and announced, "It doesn't mean that I don't love you if I don't have time to spend with you. You are always in my heart and your memories are always in my mind. Got it?"
I nodded looking down at the floor. He gently kissed on my forehead which assured me that he has sealed his mind and heart with me.
That's it friends. I know it was pretty long. Tell me how was it. And yes, the song is a tamil one. 'Pachchai Niramae' from 'Alaipayuthae'. Tamil version of 'Saathiya'. I don't know how many of you can recognize it, since, the show we discuss about is Hindi.
Cheers,
Nafee.
