I am so sorry for delaying the update so much. When I had started writing this, I had a specific plot in mind where I had to decide only once, about how I wanted the story to proceed. But when I started writing this chapter different proceedings started coming into picture. I swear I had various ideas and I typed this chapter 3 times, all different. I finally resorted to this one. Hope I chose a nice one. Thanks for the precious comments. Love you guys a lot.
Chapter 3Everyone had left by the time I got ready.
I had lied to everyone. I hadn't even told any of my friends about my arrival. I wasn't ready for family outings yet. Not while I still felt that my life was incomplete.
My stomach grumbled. I would better go out and have something. I took my car keys and drove to the Park Caf. It was my favourite cafe. They served the best cold coffee and sandwiches. Once, I had gone there with Twinkle... I flinched at her thought.
Why couldn't I forget her? Why didn't her memories leave me? Why did her tears still haunt me?I took my seat on a table and started going through my phone for any email or messages. The waitress came after some time and placed the sandwich in front of me. I looked up and smiled at her. She quickly walked away but I could hear her giggle. I grinned. Kunj Sarna hadn't lost his charm.
I enjoyed my sandwich, paid the bill and walked to the park. It was a very special place for me. It had memories of me and Twinkle. I reached there and sat on a bench.
Somehow, in these 5 years I had learnt that how much ever I deny to everyone in the world, I will never be able to deny to myself that Twinkle meant my world to me. When Anand Bhaiya had called me a week ago to tell me that our deal won't be finalised until I met the other company in India, ny body, heart and mind, all went numb. It was difficult for me to even agree to come back to Amritsar. The whole city stored Twinkle's memories for me. Our time spent together, our love... Was it even our love or was it only mine? My chain of thoughts was broken when I felt a tug on my jacket. I looked down to find a little girl looking up at me expectantly. I smiled at her. She jumped and sat beside me on the bench.
"Uncle, why are you sitting here alone and frowning?" She asked with a questioning face.
I just nodded in a 'no'.
"Haww! You mean to say that I am blind?!" She made a face.
How much this reminded me of Twinkle! Her eagerness to fight even at the silliest topic, to allege people for criticizing her and her making faces whenever I said something wrong.I laughed slightly. The girl smiled sheepishly.
"Who have you come with?" I asked as I pulled her cheeks.
"My friends and one of the friend's mom. We have a routine. Everyday one parent comes with us." She explained.
"Ohh. So why aren't you playing with them?"
"They all went home. Only aunty and Abhay is left. I don't like Abhay. He always pulls my hair. So I told aunty and she called my mom. Someone must be coming to pick me up. I was bored and then I saw you. You seemed alone so I walked upto you." She gave me a very sweet smile.
I don't know why but I had a feeling that I had seen this girl somewhere. I raked my brain trying to remember, in vain.
"So what's your name?" I asked her.
"It's Stuti. But I can't tell you my last name. Mumma says people will be able to track me down and kidnap me." she explained.
"Uncle, I can't know your name. You are older to me so knowing your name won't be any help. Instead, lets become friends. You can call me Stuti, while I will call you..." She tapped her finger on her temples in an expression of thinking... "Mr. Handsome." She grinned and forwarded her hand.
I laughed and shook her hand.
"But all my friends have to meet me once in a day at least. Unless and until they are going out or have some work." she gave me a pointed look.
"Hasn't your Mumma told you that you shouldn't befriend strangers?"
"Yes, she has. But you aren't a stranger."
This was definitely not expected. How come, I wasn't a stranger to this girl I had met for the first time in my life?
She must have seen the confused look on my face. "I was watching you since a few minutes trying to remember where I have seen you. Then I remembered seeing you in those boring business magazines my Dad reads."
"Okay. But then, how do you know that I don't have any wrong intention?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Because, Dad says that you are a very good man. He said that you were friends first but then you went away." She frowned. "Even Maasi says that you were very cool. Just like me." And she grinned.
This was something. I meet a girl not more than 5 years of age, who claims to be my friend's daughter.
"Who is your Dad?" I needed to know.
"I can't tell. I told you Mom told me not to tell my full name to anyone. Who knows, someone might be listening to us?" Her eyes widened.
"But-" I was cut off mid-sentence when someone shouted Stuti's name.
"Oh.. Seems someone has come to pick me up. But if you don't come tomorrow Mr. Handsome, I will break our friendship, okay?" She pouted and forwarded her hand.
"Ya sure." I forwarded my hand too.
She grinned and ran away. I shook my head.
Somehow, I felt connected to this little girl. She reminded me so much of Twinkle. In these 15 minutes, I felt Twinkle was here. My brain could be easily diverted from Twinkle, but my heart? She didn't leave it even for a second. If staying with a little girl could help me divert my heart from Twinkle for a few seconds, I would spend time with Stuti everyday.I saw Stuti running towards a Blue Honda. Wasn't it Twinkle's favourite colour?
Kunj, it's over. You can't be with Twinkle now. How much ever you deny it, Twinkle can't be yours. All you can do, is forget her. Staying in the past won't help. At least, not in front of the world. You have a family. You have to take care of them. Not waste your time thinking about someone who doesn't give a damn about you.-
As I entered the house, I heard Maa talking to someone.
"Arey nahi hai woh yahan. Aaj ke baad agar phone kiya, toh dekh lena. Arey baba, nahi baat karni hai usse." She banged the phone. As she saw me, her hard expression immediately softened.
"Beta, accha hua tu aa gaya. Jaldi se ja kar taiyaar ho ja. Tere Papa ke kissi dost ne party ke liye bulaya hai." She smiled and left.
I walked to the guest room, freshened up and went to the living room. It felt so good to be home.
But doesn't this home feel incomplete. Will anyone or anything ever be able to complete it again for you?My heart was so god damn adamant to make me feel guilty for something I never did. Twinkle was the one who broke my trust, right?
Suddenly, Kaka, the oldest servant of our house, came to me. He looked around to check that no one was listening.
"Kya hua Kaka?" I asked his. He seemed very tensed.
He put his finger on his lips and shushed. I obeyed. He told me to follow him and took me to my room. There he closed the door and turned towards me.
"Kunj beta. Finally I found time to talk to you. I hope you aren't busy."
"Yes I am free. But what happened Kaka. You looked quite tensed downstairs."
"See Kunj Baba, I tried telling your mom this but before I could, she told that no one in the house would even take Twinkle's name."
"Kaka even I am not interested-" before I could complete, he continued,
"I know that you are hurt. But listening won't harm right? His eyes looked pleading and I couldn't do anything but comply.
"The day you were about to leave, Twinkle Baby also had gotten her bag packed." He looked at me as if waiting for some reaction. I was too confused to react. I motioned him to continue.
"When you were about to leave, someone had called us. Twinkle baby came down at that time and took the phone from me." I remembered telling Twinkle to get down and that I was just following her.
"As soon as Twinkle answered with a 'Hello' her expression became angry. She even mentioned Anita Madam twice or thrice."
"Kya?" It was the only thing that came out of my mouth. I didn't remember hearing from Anita Luthra that day.
"That's when Twinkle baby tensed. She was about to shout on the phone when her phone rang. She cut Anita Madam's phone and picked up her phone call. She then told me to tell you that she is coming back in 15 minutes. But at that moment she seemed happy."
I remembered coming down and not finding Twinkle there. I had then asked Kaka where she is to which he had replied that she has gone out somewhere and is returning in 15 minutes.
The events after it were a fresh memory for me, even today.
But why was Twinkle happy when she had received the call on her phone. Probably it was Yuvi telling her that she should let ne go ahead.
Before Kaka could continue, I heard Maa calling out my name. Kaka's expression turned to a scared one.
"Kaka, we'll talk later in the night. Meet me in the garden at midnight." He gave a smile which I returned and hurried downstairs."
"Kunj Puttar, bada handsome lag raha hai." Bebe complimented with an impressed look.
I went to her and side hugged her. "And you are looking very hot." As I said that, Bebe pulled my cheek while Anand Bhaiya, Maa and Cherry Bhaiya laughed.
Papa came down and hurried us all.
Things actually didn't change much. But Kaka, his expressions and whatever he wanted to say, all intrigued me much. I kept wondering what he wanted to say.
