She couldn't scream. She couldn't shout. She couldn't move. Tears continued to stream down her red and swollen face and she tried one last time, with all her remaining strength, to frantically evade the clutches of man on top of her. His hand over her mouth stifled her desperate cries and efforts of getting help. She relentlessly kicked and hit and punched and used whatever she could to defend herself but it was of no use. He only used his other hand to pin her arms solidly down to the ground. Her heartbeat grew faster. Pools of tears and sweat dampened her hair and her clothes. This could not be happening to her. She was stuck. Stuck in the mess, she herself, had gotten herself into. Why couldn't she have listened? Why did she have to be so stubborn? Why did she believe she could handle this on her own? Why, why, WHY?! She let out a muffled cry as he effortlessly removed her damp dupatta from her shaking body. And then she met the blood-thirsty eyes of her predator. She could finally see the devil inside of him, how could she have been so blind? The way his mouth crooked up into a mischievous grin sent shivers throughout her body and down her spine. She frantically twisted and turned, cried and pleaded as he slowly lowered his face to hers...
Twinkle snapped opened her eyes. Gasping for breath, she reached for her lamp. As she sat up, her eyes adjusted to the sudden illumination and the familiar surroundings of her bedroom. "It was just a dream," she breathed out. She ran her shaking hands through her damp hair and wiped away the beads of sweat which had lined themselves across her forehead. "Just a dream Twinkle. Just a bad dream. Relax," she reassured herself before gulping down the glass of water from her bedside table. Just a dream... she continuously thought to herself, but she was still shaken. She hasn't had these dreams in such a long time, she thought it was all finally over, that she had finally escaped it all...
She walked over to her window and gazed into the night sky. The stars were shining and the moon was full. She lifted open her window to let the cool breeze envelop her bedroom. As she rubbed her hands down her arms to keep herself warm, her eyes fell on the window opposite hers. It was dark inside and it was closed. The only thing dividing the two rooms was the giant tree which stood proud in the middle with its solid branches paving a pathway for many secret rendezvous. Twinkle smiled as she remembered the number of times they used this tree to sneak in and out of each other's rooms at ridiculous a'clocks in the morning, with only the night sky or the rising sun as their sole witness. Coming back to reality, she sighed, closed her window and walked back to her bed, picking up the photo frame which rested on her bedside. It was crazy how a simple photograph could make you feel so loved, so protected and so... at peace. "I miss you" she sighed as her fingers trailed over the glass. It had almost been 6 months now and Twinkle still felt the emptiness in her life. She missed him... she missed him a lot. And with that, she tucked herself under her sheets and immediately fell into a deep slumber with the photo clutched to her chest like her life depended on it.
