"Baar baar din yeh aaye, baar baar dil yeh gaaye..."

Yuvika woke up to the ear-piercing sound of Debo singing loudly, "Debo stop yelling!" She shouted covering her ears with her hands.

"Yelling? No, I was just singing." Debo grinned widely, "You know its my birthday tomorrow. My birthday."

Muttering something under her breath Yuvika threw her pillow at Debo and said, "I know, I know! Now get out of my room and let me sleep."

"Rude." Debo pouted and in response she was hit by another pillow. "Okay I will go, there's no need to get violent. Just tell me what are you planning for my birthday, can I help?"

Yuvika was tempted to pick the little vase on her bedside table and throw it at Debo but then she thought why waste a beautiful vase. So she glared at Debo instead and said, "Leave now or there won't be any birthday celebration for you to help out with."

Huffing loudly, Debo went out of the room and slammed the door shut.

Yuvika groaned in annoyance as she couldn't sleep, "Now that I can't sleep I better get some work done."

7:15 AM

Yuvika smiled and placed steaming hot cups of coffee in front of the girls who were shooting daggers at her through their sleepy eyes. As Yuvika couldn't sleep, she chose to wake up everybody so that they could start preparing for Debo's birthday.

"Okay. I am gonna invite Varun and Mik for the party, Ramya and Mally you are in charge of the decorations, Sam and Sidra - food and refreshments, Megha you have to hide the cake and all the gifts from Debo. And Maliha." Yuvika trailed off as she eyed Maliha who was yawning and rubbing her eyes, "What?" she asked.

"You have the most important job to do." Yuvika smiled.

"What? What job? Wasn't I going to just assist you? Make sure the tables are set, help Megha with the gifts and all that?"

"That was what you were going to do if we hadn't encountered this problem."

"Problem? What prob..." Maliha stopped mid sentence as Debo entered the living room, all dressed up, dancing and singing, "Baar baar din...oh hey guys! What's up?!"

Yuvika rubbed a hand over her face, "This problem." she whispered to Maliha who nodded her head in understanding.

"Are you planning for my birthday? You know I can totally help if you want. I can..."

"No no no Debo. We don't need your help, everything is under control. Why are you awake this early? Go and get some sleep, you don't want dark circles under your eyes right. Now go." Maliha gently pushed Debo out of the room and closed the door.

"If she keeps doing this we won't be able to keep everything a surprise. Maliha I am giving you the most important job. You have to keep an eye on Debo and make sure that she doesn't come barging in like that again. Okay?"

"Okay." Maliha replied.

1:28 PM

"Megha has the cake been delivered yet?" Yuvika asked Megha who was sitting outside waiting for the delivery guy.

"Nope. But I got the gifts and hid them." Megha replied.

"Okay..uummhhuumm!" Yuvika cried as her phone rang..once again.

"What?!" Megha laughed as Yuvika answered the call.

"I just wanted to inform that Debo is still watching TV." Yuvika groaned at Maliha's reply. She picked up a cookie and threw it at Megha who was still laughing.

"Yeah, just what you said 10 minutes ago." Yuvika sighed, "Maliha I didn't ask you to inform me about Debo's every move! You just have to make sure that she doesn't come interrupting us again. Now focus!" ending the call Yuvika sat on the couch holding her head in her hands.

Taking deep breaths she relaxed and landed back on the couch when her phone rang again, "What is it now!" she yelled as she thought Maliha had called her again.

"Umm Yuvi its me, Sam." she rubbed her temples and replied, "Sorry I just thought it was Maliha again."

"It's okay. I just called to inform that there's a problem. Who had placed the whole food order?"

"I did. What happened? What's the problem?"

"And what was the date and time you asked them to complete the order by?" it was Sidra who asked that.

"9th Feb...oh god!"😲

"I thought so." Sidra mumbled.

"Is there anything we can do now to avoid this problem?" Yuvika asked.

"Well... The sweets are ready, pizzas, spring rolls, stuffed rolls are ready, they just need to be fried but that paneer sabzi, tacos, mix veg and chapattis aren't." Sam answered.

"We can always buy some packaged food. Relax Yuvi, we'll do what we can. K bye!" Sidra said before ending the call.

"Quiiuhhmm," cried Yuvika.

"Oh there he is." Megha pointed at the delivery guy. She took the cake from him, paid the bill and rushed back inside to hide the cake.

"Hey Yuvi!" Yuvika jumped in surprise at Debo's voice. She turned around and saw Debo standing there with her arm waited around Maliha who had this mix of apologetic and sheepish expression on her face.

Yuvika looked up at the ceiling, staring at nothing in particular and made a face, "Why? Why?!"

5:45 PM

"Do you think Debo will like this?" Mally asked Ramya.

Ramya adjusted the chairs, "She's gonna love it. Ah! This looks so beautiful!"

They had chosen a lakeside area for the midnight celebrations. Long tables were set, they had used fairy lights, balloons, candles and paper garlands for the decorations.

"Hhmm.. This really looks beautiful." Mally gushed feeling proud of their work.

But their happiness was short lived as it started raining. "Ah WHAT!!??"

Mally and Ramya ran towards their car, "Oh God!! This is going to create a new problem." Ramya said.

6:00 PM

Outside it was raining heavily, inside the song "Barso re megha megha, barso re megha megha..." was playing on the radio and Yuvika...Yuvika was fuming.

Once again she looked up at the ceiling and said, "What else is left huh? What next?"

"Whom are you talking to Yuvi?"

Wow." Yuvika murmured sarcastically as she turned around to face Debo.

"Hi." Debo smiled.

"Where's Maliha this time?" asked Yuvika and before Debo could reply both of them heard someone yell.

"DEBO!! OPEN THE DOOR DAMMIT!"

"Oh yeah. I might have locked her in the washroom." replied Debo.

"D.E.B.O!" Yuvika held her by her shoulders and shook her lightly, "Go and unlock Maliha out right now."

"Okay okay.." Debo said in a sing song voice, "I am going. Good luck with the planning."

11:00 PM

"This is good but the outdoor decoration was perfect for Debo's birthday." Mally said as she looked at the now decorated guest room. Due to the rain they had to shift everything from lakeside to inside the house.

"It's okay Mally, all this is okay too. We can't control the weather, can we? Its good." Yuvika hugged Mally sideways and watched Ramya as she glued the birthday banner on the wall.

"Nice!" they turned around and saw Sam, Sidra and two guys carrying huge boxes. "Ladies, food is here."

"Finally!"

All the girls except Maliha (who was still watching over Debo) plopped on the couch and sighed heavily. "Finally! Everything fine for the party - decorations, food, guests etc. etc."

"I am excited about Mik Thongraya coming for the party." Megha clapped her hands in excitement, "He's my second most favourite actor."

"Oh God! NO!" Yuvika cried.

"What happened?"

"I forgot to invite Varun and Mik." she replied.

"Wow. This is getting even better." Ramya murmured sarcastically.

"Now what?" Sam asked.

"I was so stressed because of all what's been happening today that I forgot to call them."

"Its okay Yuvi, we understand." Mally said.

"Lets just not think about what we couldn't and didn't do. This may not be what we planned initially but it doesn't mean that this is not enough. It's good." added Sam and everybody else nodded in agreement.

11:55 PM
"Let's practice this one more time. Lights off, Maliha brings Debo and she switches on the light and what will we all do?"

"Baar baar din yeh aaye, baar baar dil yeh gaaye, tu jiye..." Megha, Mally, Ramya, Sam and Sidra sang in chorus.

"Perfect." Yuvika commented.

"10, 9, 8..."

"Maliha where are we going?"

"7, 6, 5..."

"What are we doing here?"

"4, 3, 2..."

"What?"

"1"

"Baar baar din yeh aaye, baar baar dil yeh gaaye, tu jiye hazaron saal, yeh meri hai aarzoo...Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to, happy birthday to Debo, happy birthday to you."

Debo rolled her eyes and looked at Yuvika, "Is this in retaliation of what I have been doing since morning?"

Yuvika laughed at hugged Debo, "Yep."

12:15 AM

"Megha bring the cake." and so she did. She placed the huge cake box on a table. Since everyone was busy with the preparations, no one had seen the cake so all were very eager to see it.

Smilingly Megha opened the box and...

"WTH!! OMG!!" Megha started yelling.

"What? What happened?"

Megha removed the cake from the box and the whole room went dead silent.

45 seconds later

"What in the world is this giant teeth set doing in place of my cake?!" Debo screamed.

*Ting Tong*

"Now what!?" Ramya huffed out loud and went to see who was at the door.

"Wh-"

"Uumm..actually my car's broken down, it's raining and I need to desperately use the bathroom. Only your house's lights were on so...can I please?" There at the door was Varun Kapoor looking very uncomfortable.

"Of course..please come in." Ramya happily lead him inside and showed him the way to the bathroom.

12:30 AM

"Varun now that you are here can you please wish our friend, it's her birthday. We had planned to invite you but because of some problems we couldn't. She's a big fan of yours, so please." Ramya requested.

"Of course." Varun replied.

12:35 AM

Debo looked at the teeth cake and cringed, 'They really should have used my help.' she thought.

"D-e-b-o...we have a surprise for you."

Debo turned her head towards the sound of Ramya's voice and noticed Varun behind her. Instantly she went into shrieking mode, "OMG OMG OMG!!"

Varun laughed and hugged Debo making her go still like a statue, "Happy Birthday Debo."

"Th-an-k yo-u." Debo stammered and then again, "OMG I am so happy to see you. This is the best birthday ever!"

After 5 minutes Debo's shrieking toned down and Varun suggested everyone to bring the cake for Debo to cut.

"This is the cake?" asked Varun looking at it with a shocked expression.

Nodding awkwardly Megha replied, "Yeah. Debo is actually very fond of teeth and gums. Shiny white yeh and strong pink gums. Yeah."

"Yeah.." Debo so wanted to murder Megha right there and then.

"Cool, this is quite a unique cake."

Everybody sang the birthday song once again as Debo cut the cake. She offered it to Varun first who hesitantly bit into it but as he chewed on his expressions changed into that of extreme delight and pleasure, "Wow. Oh my goodness this is delicious! Dark chocolate cake, white chocolate ganache and vanilla butter-cream. Delicious."

"Really?" the girls asked.

"Yeah. Here have this." he fed Debo some cake and she looked as if she was in heaven, "Oh this is really delicious."

Licking her lips Sam said, "I want a molar."

"Premolar for me." came Sidra's voice.

"Incisors...yumm!!" Megha and Mally said in unison.

"A canine for me please." Ramya added.

"Me too." said Maliha.

"Oh dear sweet God!" Yuvika laughed hard as everybody ravished the teeth cake.
