"Karan... Tum kahan ho", called out Sandhya. It was late in the night and Karan would be retired to bed by now.
"Pata Nahi yeh ladka Kaha Chala Gaya", she mumbled to herself. Not that she was actually worried for him but she always liked to keep a check on him, incase he was progressing in his confidence with Naina. Sandhya was a bit uneasy and suspecting today. She'd sensed him hiding something from her. But she wouldn't give in so easily. What if he was deciding to do something productive on his own? She certainly couldn't allow him.
She had a look around guest room, it too was empty. Suddenly, she realised even Naina was missing. She again went to the room for the last time to check.
Naina was there, arranging some pillows on bed.
"Naina, tum itni Raat ko kya Kar rahi ho? Aur Karan kahan Hai?"
She was totally taken aback at this.
"Umm Woh main bed arrange Kar rahi thi, sone ke liye"
"Karan kahan Hai Naina", Sandhya asserted.
"Woh, Woh shayad kitchen mein honge", she said nervously.
"Kitchen mein kyun? Kuch chahiye kya usko?"
Naina still was pretty speechless.
"Umm pata Nahi. Pyaas lagi thi shayad. Kuch khana hoga..."
Before she could grill her more on this, she received a phone call.
"Hello?", She answered. No response.
"Hello, kaun Hai?", a streak of fear in her voice. What if the Chittorgarh blackmailer was calling again?
She moved out of the room and downstairs, into the Hall. She was quickly moving to her room, when she felt something moving behind her. A shadow escaped into the back garden?
She was looking back and taking slow steps when suddenly, she collided into something, an object. The phone thrashed onto the floor and her head was spinning.
"Yeh kaun bewakoof Hai!", Came a thundering voice that hit her face.
A servant thankfully switched on a dim light owing to the nuisance. That's when Sandhya saw and realised she'd crashed with NK.
"Sandhya ji Aap?", He looked shocked as she never made mistakes.
They got up and apologised. Uh, bad luck.
Now with more light, she proceeded to the back garden but found it empty.
"Kya hua, Aap kuch doondh rahi Hai?", Asked NK.
"Nahi, mujhe laga wahan koi Hai", she fumbled.
And as always, she wasn't completely wrong. Behind the sofa were crouched Naina & Karan, with their hearts beating into their mouth.
"Pagal Naina! Itni zor se kaun chalta Hai?", He loudly whispered after she was gone.
"Accha, main pagal? Ek toh Maasi Maa ke peeche peeche aayi itni mushkil se. As if tum bohot silently chalte ho? Chalne mein tumhaare inn jooton Ka sound hi unko yahan laya", she grumbled.
"Nautanki Naina chalo ab isse Pehle poora ghar aa Jaye"
"Akdoo kahin ke. Ek toh Bina bataye bhaga rahe ho aur uparse attitude!"
"Zyada udo mat. Agar Maine Maasi Maa ko phone Nahi kiya hota toh tum toh nipat Gayi hoti.."
"Oh hello! Nipat Gayi Matlab?"

And this is how they escaped far away into the night, grumbling, mumbling but together. Away from the criticism, away from conditions. It was the end of the 15 day trial and Karan did not have guts to get himself tested for an allergy. He couldn't take even a miniscule chance to let Naina go away. He'd done it once and he wanted to make sure he wouldn't do it twice.
The next day, both NK & Sandy were fretting over their defeat. Karan had slapped them in their face. They'd run away from under their noses.
...
*I run away too*🤣
