I am literally lost at present. Lost in the magic you weaved with these words of yours. This was enthralling, enchanting and simply capitivating. Where do you bring all those words from? And they just flow so poetically and effortlessly. I would have taken an year to pour that all out, perhaps only more! My dear, what are you doing on IF? With an OS like that you can probably be a best selling author! This is your first os i am reading and you have already made me your fan! You made me speechless. You made me fall in love with the character of karna's wife. ❤️ Every emotion of hers was potrayed flawlessly. You made me admire karna ,a character i was always neutral and to be honest, a bit apprehensive about. Truly magical and out of the world for me! 👏

BTW, i am Ramya. May i know your name please?I was not on mb forum so you may not be knowing me. I think we talked once in episode discussion thread, isn't it? I only recently joined here and wrote some pieces too.
Now coming to karna's wife. Vyasa never mentioned her name but indirectly she was mentioned in stree parva and also during the funeral of the warriors after mahabharat. Some scholars say karna had only one wife while others mention 3. But i have a doubt the proper name of karna's first wife. The correct pronounciation is vrushali or vrishali? I am not very well versed in sanskrit, just have some basic knowledge so curious to know . 😳

Wow!!! That is one surprising corsage of accolades.😃 I cannot express in words what I felt knowing my OS made you fall in love in love with Karna's wife and admire Karna despite you being a bit apprehensive about him. That is really a big honour for me. Thanks a lot, a million, for each word you picked to express your thoughts about my writing.😊
I remember you Ramya. I am Jamy. We have met while Krishnaa and I were talking about Ramya Krishnan and you joined us saying that you thought we were talking about you, isn't it?
The name of Karna's wife nowhere appears in MB. Vrishali is the imagination of Shivaji Sawant who wrote Mrityunjaya. It can be written either way, Vrishali or Vrushali. Because English does not have any letters that can match the pronunciation of R in Sanskrit vowels.😊

Hey Jamy! You wrote it so well that i had to use all those words for it. 😳 Yup you are right. I did not read the comments before that and when i read that particular comment i got confused and thought you were talking about me for a moment. 😛 😛
You mean, the vowel we use for writing rishi? Oh, now i get it. Thanks for clearing my doubt.
If you have any more works then please do tell me. I would love to read them. PM me the links if possible. And check out my works too. 😛 😉

Ramya, no mentions. I had written an OS in MB forum but that has been removed long back. Other than these, I have nothing in my credit coz I almost remain lazy😆 I shall check your works as I get time.😊

barbieindia, I am glad and surprised very much reading that mine is the first work through which you got to know about Karna's wife in detail. It is more than just an appreciation for me.😃 And I am glad even more reading that you really felt her alive through my words. What more else can a writer ask for??? And these are all just my imaginations, wild ones I must say, not any real incidents because in the original epic we never get to read about this woman. She was a person like the way I wrote is just my guesswork.😉 Nothing else. Each word you have used to appreciate my effort made me cheerful much more by the time I completed your comment. I really cannot thank you enough. Still, thank you a lot for such a hearty appreciation.😊

I know this is ur imagination. But i felt her behaviour must have been more closer to ur portrayal in the epic considering the citation u provided. hence i felt she was alive, real infront of the reader. She was easily relatable to me.
Keep up the good work and Do write more⭐️

Well, I had thought of removing this OS within a week. You are too busy to find time for IF. That is why I did not bother you. Now, take your time.😊

I am not confused. What I said is its Sanskrit meaning, not Marathi. In Sanskrit Vrishali does mean "a common woman". The variation you mentioned, Vishali, does not exist in Sanskrit AFAIK.

I am not a Marathi (am a proud Bihari) so no idea what Vrishali means in Marathi. As far as Vishali is concerned, the earliest of the Rig Vedic texts do not speak of the four Varna's it has gradually increased from 2 (not mentioning 1 although in the earliest hyms all are considered equal and one) to three and eventually 4 in the later Rig Vedic hymns

The 2 Varna's which we start with are Brahm and Vish ( which later were known as Bharamin and Vaishya). This was the time we did not have the Shudras and Vish were the recipient of all the atrocities that later became the destiny of the Shudras. Now the historians have claimed that that the women from the Vish community were generally seen lustfully by the higher cast. (Dont take me wrong, even I have huge respect in my tradition and rich past, but society always try to prey on women of weaker sections of the society) These women referred to Vaishiyaas (a term still common for women in the marketplace) or Vishali. Again reminding this is not my view but that of the historians. This is the reason why I said that Vishali means a common women.

However we are discussing two very different eras and two different languages. The Classical Sanskrit that learn today is very different from the Vedic Sanskrit. It is quite possible that due to language variation, Vishali of Vedic times (Satyug or even earlier) became Vrishali of Mahabharat era (Dwapar Yug)
