I wonder what are the actions IF had taken so far against this issue.. the only thing I know is we lost many good stories and good writers because of few stealers and genuine readers left behind helplessly..

I agree and support Sandhya. I think it's high time strict measures to be taken to protect the writers work which they share with us freely. The least that could be done is to plagiarise it. And members who do that should be kept out of the forum ASAP.

The online content needs to be protected as ruthlessly as its offline counterpart.

Perhaps a similar plug-in like the WP-CopyProtect one, which locks both full text and images (so that they can't be copied) in WordPress sites, can be used here in IF.

This solution like the "Read Only" make commenting difficult for readers who tend to quote portions of the updates in their comments.

It's a shame. A writer's work is hours of effort, a stroke of creativity and it doesn't matter whether there is financial gain or widespread fame associated with it. Stealing is wrong. Nothing justifies it. And it only exposes the desperation of the thief.

I don't know if any IF measures really work. If the NOCOPY and READ ONLY measures do, then I am all for it!

A NOCOPY tag makes perfect sense. Perhaps offering the writer the option of converting to picture format is another option. Adding a captcha for every page is overkill but maybe a deterrent too...as you said, making something more tedious to do might deter the plagiarizer(s) to an extent.
