Rox - True, but it's not fair the other way round either. Like I mentioned before, The Moderators at a higher level can put up a panel of deserving candidates, and then the members can vote. That will curb the 'favouritism' part a bit. That way, we can have the input of both - The Members & The Mods in the same ratio.

Hmm... now I think that's a great idea. The GM's can pick the candidates based on the same criteria they are using now (ie: background checks, WL's etc etc).

Great idea!

@Neeta, I think I see your point but popularity contest is the last thing I want on IF. I like ur idea of senior mods selecting a few candidates and then members voting.

@sam, I see your point as well and I like the approach of doing the whole background check. but there are so many things mods CAN miss compare to the regular visitors of a particular forum. For example, if I am fan of a show and I go to it's related forum on daily basis, as a regular visitor I have a better idea of knowing how a certain person behaves.

This suggestion/question/comment maybe off topic slightly, but I thought it would be pointless to make a separate topic for it. Is there a way to lodge a complaint against a mod? And PMing the GM is certainly NOT the way I can tell that from experience. I mean we (as members) are the ones who have to bear (😡 get an idea? see my pain?) with a mod that's baised then we should also be given a platform to at least send our grivences. I have been to other forums but IF has some UNIQUE mods that I have come across and unique certainely not in a good way.

From the looks of it, it seems like once you are a mod then nobody checks on you to see if u are going on sprees called "misusing your power" and another one called "exercising favoritism". Seriously, it seems like there is no way possible to let anyone in higher authority know that another mod is misusing his/her power and it frustrates members. This is a serious problem and I hope someone in higher authority looks at it seriously as well. I would honestly truly appreicate it.

BTW, since I criticize mods openly, I should praise some of them openly too. There are total of three mods on IF who I have found to be nice and responsive and Sam you are one of them. so thank you.

@ Huma, I agree with you on all points. It's a great suggestion that we should be able to provide some sort of feedback on mods. PMing the GM's is highly ineffective, and as a result, people start revolting on the forums.

And I agree, Sam is doing a great job. Keep it up!

😆 (Let me pretend that I didn't read that)

About lodging a complaint against a moderator: Well you could talk to a GM, but since that isn't working, you could PM some mod or CM who you think will listen to what you have to say and try to solve it. Also you could try talking to this Mod (in a very nice manner :) ) and sort things out. If all fails, contact Admin. You probably won't get a reply soon, but they may get back to you on it a little later.

Neetz, I have and always will be in "the shoes of a member", and even as a member, I think the system right now seems fine. Most of the time we promote people who are interested, because obviously they seem to have the will to be a viewbie enough to apply.

Also let me point out, that if a moderator is suggesting a member to be a part of the development team, they aren't going to just choose someone! A mod is usually just as well versed with the section as any active member, and if we aren't, we don't just choose people to promote. It really doesn't work like that.

As for the voting... Well I'll try to put your views forward, but considering that we don't get too many of these requests or very often, I'm not too sure what can be done. I'll try though. =)

@sam, can u plz also forward the suggestion about a complaint box. there could be a link on the main page of IF that says Complaint box. And a few mods could be incharge of it. I tell u why PMing the higher authority doesn't work. I have done it and no action at all. plus when I first came in IF, I asked a few people what to do if mods r practicing favortism towards a certain group, and I got the same reply from all the members: "u can try it but it's not gonna work. we have already done it but no use." since only 2-3 people have responded in this particular topic, u may think it's not a big issue. but trust me there are more than enough people to back what I am saying. sitution is really pathetic in some of the forums and main reason are the mods.

I have also realized that the whole mod community gets really defensive if u say that a particular mod isn't doing a good job without even looking if the accusations are valid or not.

and about being nice to that mod, well i think i have pretty much tried every tone humanly possible to talk to this person but it's like u r banging ur head against the wall. sorry i had to let it out. phewwww. but plzzzzzzzzzz plzzzzzzzzzzzz plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz forward my suggestion about the complaint box.

I think the feedback on mods idea is great because what you have stated above, from a personal experience, and from what others here have also experienced, it's not the most affective way. I can say that, out of all the mods I have contact, you have been the most responsive, but the whole of IF can't bring the complaints to you only. You would want to pull your hair out. 😆 If a mod isn't doing their duty, it really sucks for those members who are at the end of the barrel. They end up getting frustrated, and eventually end up leaving. I hope there can be a way where members can send in their grievances without being deemed as 'troublemakers'...

I absolutely agree with Huma & Soha. There should be a mechanism through which we can file a complaint against the Mods. Like Huma pointed out, PMing the GMs or the Administrators does not help. I can say this from personal experience.
Sam - Please do put this suggestion forward, It's really needed.

Oh... I did put this suggestion forward, for the record.

About the compain box. If it's a mod who isn't acting appropriately, contact the CM. If it's a CM, contact sree =) That's all I can say. sree gets a lot of PMs, but she'll see it sooner or later. =)
