Err, just out of curiosity, what is the point of deleting an ID? I mean if you are leaving this forum, it wouldn't matter whether you have a remaining and wasted ID here or not, would it? Besides, does having an ID in one forum means you are incapable of joining another one? Also, what if one day one feels to come back to IF? The person will have to open up a completely new ID with zero posts; if he had the previous ID, he could have used that one and make a come back again.

@ PhoeniXof_Hades: Well I guess the thing is that if somebody is not using their ID it's a complete waste of that username because some other person might want the same ID but may not be able to obtain it just because someone took it before them and they are not even using it anymore so in that sense the ID has gone to waste😛

Account deletion must be allowed. If not allowed then it results in account abuse.

I have seen posts by "IDs" but the profile says that they last logged in a year or even two years ago. This implies that IDs are being stolen and misused.

I see admins use these IDs to create fake posts, thereby giving an impression that people are logging into their forums. Fake posts are easy to identify ... a short one liner, or a couple of words. This is a violation of privacy. And this is plain wrong.

Fake IDs are also used to insult a member in case he has posted something the administrator(s) do not want to discuss. Why use fake IDs to warn a person? Isn't it appropriate to use their regular ID?

One other question - When I post a reply, the server logs my IP address and that is fine. What else is logged? We need to know. And who has access to that information? Can the forum administrator see it? I have no problem with the admin knowing my IP as long as the admin is discreet and does not share that information with friends. But how do I know that I can trust the forum administrator ?

I see people ask for fancy features. Yes, they would be nice to have. But if addition of features leads to compromise of security, then that is unacceptable.

IF is a great forum. But the Internet can be an unsafe domain. Please make user experience secure, friendly and fun.

Thanks and have a nice day 😊

.

a) I dont know on which site you have seen Admins creating fake posts. But on India-Forums.com we do not follow such practices.

b) Please read our Private Policy.

I had posted this on another similar topic:

Hi All,

Well I just gone through all the posts on this thread and somewhere we would like work on this.

a) Members who would like to deactivate their account so that they do not get any PMs / Scraps or any other requests and also their status shows "Deactive".

b) Deletion of accounts is not a feasible solution as the current Forum structure is such that it will affect other members posts too. Suppose Mr.X has created 5000 posts and out of which he has started around 1000 topics.

Now on these 5000 posts there may be over 40,000+ responses and the Topics started by Mr.X would have around lets say 10,000 (assuming 10 replies per Topic by other members).

Now if we delete the first post itself or make it hidden the whole Topic becomes irrelevant when I cant figure out what the topic was about and what others have replied to. Further making the whole Topic unusable.

So possible solution that the member who wants to remove certain posts can simply edit that post and remove the detail they do not want others to see.

So after understanding the above problem if you all can come up with some suggestion which can help us improve India-Forums.com then we are willing to work on them.

Inorder to tighten our site Privacy even further even the Dev Team doesnt have access to User's Email information.

Regards,
Vijay

Vijay thanks for letting us know the problem. My suggestion would be that when the user deletes his account his posts should not be deleted just instead of his name ANONYMOUS should appear ?? Did u get it ?? I will try if i can explain it more properly !!!😃
