Salad, soup and breadsticks.

What do you love to see in your dabba?

Tandoori Chicken.

What do you cringe to see in your dabba?
Green sabzis.

Who packs your dabba?
My mother, Meena.

Nutritionist Shobha Rajgopal suggests:

Manava can make her meal healthier by switching to whole wheat bread sticks.

The soup should not be a packaged one, because they contain too much sodium.

Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi with Telly Stars

Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi with Telly stars like, Deepti Devi, Manva Naik and Deepa Parab.
</>

Though not written in the Vedas, nor the Upnishads, Ganesh Chaturthi is one festival celebrated with full spirit and grandeour. When there were days when India cried for freedom, where people could not meet in groups, nor could celebrate any festivals, Lokmanya Tilak started this very custom of Ganesh Chaturthi, as an excuse of social gathering, but with a hidden agenda, that is to plan and exchanges ideas or messages related to the countries' freedom. The positive vibes, the power of Lord Ganesha, was such, that miracles happened everywhere, and this very practice once started by a freedom fighter, has now become one of the most auspicious festival for Hindus, all across the globe.

Though celebrated by people of all communities, Ganesh Chaturthi is most popular among the people of Maharashtra. This Ganesh Chaturthi, the Telly Buzz team talks to the three Marathi actresses, of the small screen- Deepti Devi, Deepa Parab and Manva Naik, to get to know their views about the festival.

Deepti Devi

What are your plans for Ganapati?

I am taking two days off, and going to Pune for the festival. For me, Ganesh Chturthi means a lot. For some reason, I've also been attached to Ganeshji. I have been shooting day and night for the last one week, so I can take two days off and celebrate the festival with a big bash. I will go to my school, where I'll witness the Ganesh Sthapna and be a part of the Upasana. And then, I'll even spend time with my family; for the last six months, all I have been doing is going for shoots and coming home; this will be a good break for me.

Is there a tradition that you follow each year for the festival?

Yes, every year, I visit the big mandals of Pune with family and friends, and I am glad that I can do it this year too.

People say that because of festival like Ganesh Chathurthi, Mumbai is getting more and more polluted, what do you have to say about that?

Honestly, more than water pollution, I am more worried about the cultural pollution that is going on. This festival was started for a reason, that is to get social in a positive way, and to spread positive energy among everyone, and even to energise ourselves to get more work done. Now people drink, smoke, play bollywood songs in mandals, and that is just not right. Rather, make use of this time to do something positive in everyone's life. Yes I agree, the water pollution issue is a problem; for that, people can start using food colors that dissolve in the sea and can make idols that are environmentally friendly idols, and we also need to go easy on noise pollution. Seriously, people need to start understanding their culture and the foundation of every festival, rather than modernizing and polluting the culture and customs.

A message to all your fans for Ganapati?

I wish you all a very happy Ganesh Chaturthi and all I can say is that this year, with every bit of energy you have, scream out with all your heart - Ganapati Bappa Moriya.

Deepa Parab

What are your plans for Ganapati?

Every year, in my village they get a Ganapati at home; this year too, my family has planned something big for Ganesh Chaturthi, but, unfortunately I wont be able to make it. But I do plan to visit Lal Baug's Ganapati Mandal this year, as its closer to my house.

Is there a tradition that you follow every year for the festival?

Yes, I make sure, I visit at least one mandal for darshan, no matter what.

People say that because of festival like Ganesh Chathurthi, Mumbai is getting more and more polluted, what do you have to say about that?

Yes, actually the whole environment gets polluted. Actually, what lacks is the level of discipline among everyone. Ok, understood that it's a festival and people get carried away, but then they need to make sure that they keep the environment in mind too. They should use idols made out of clay, rather than using crackers and loud speakers, they should use the Lazeem (a Marathi musical instrument). In Pune, Ganapati is celebrated in the most ideal way. People of Mumbai should really pay attention to that.

A message to all your fans for Ganapati?

I would like to wish them a happy Ganesh Chathurthi.

Manva Naik

What are your plans for Ganapati?

If I am not shooting, then I am surely visiting friends and relatives. I love going to Pandals to see the Ganapatis. I usually go to Dadar Shivaji Park, Lalbagh Ka Raja and the big pandal in Wadala. Ofcourse, I will go and meet up with all my near and dear ones.

Is there a tradition that you follow each year for the festival?

There is no tradition as such. But yes, I love to meet people, so I usually spend the day meeting all my relatives and friends, who I do not meet that often, because of busy schedules. One thing I love , is to participate in Aartis. I make it a point to reach the pandals in the evening, so that I can learn the aarti. I love the tune and rhythm in which they all sing.

People say that because of festival like Ganesh Chathurthi, Mumbai is getting more and more polluted, what do you have to say about that?

It is really sad that during the Visarjan, there is lot of traffic jam. In case of emergency, people who need doctor's attention might get stranded on the road. People who need to commute for some urgent work will not be able to reach their destination in quick time. Fortunately, police has been taking measures to handle the crowd during Visarjan. But it will be nice if the festivities happen sound-free, too much of crackers and smoke does pollute the environment. We need to save our environment. As far as idols being immersed in the sea is concerned, I think it is fine, because as per my knowledge, the idols are made of clay, that easily gets melted in water. So that should not be a problem. The Government has also taken right steps and has put a ban on flowers being thrown into the sea. Our people are slowly improving, awareness is surely there. But we need to get better with every passing year.

One wish that you would want Ganesha to fulfill?

Nothing as such.. (laughs). I will not ask for anything and bribe God. I just want to enjoy and have fun. But yes, if I want to ask something, then I only wish that I will not be shooting on Ganesh Chaturthi.. (smiles).

A message to all your fans for Ganapati?

Enjoy the festival and keep up the spirit of the festival. Do not overdo things, just for the sake of it, you enjoy the day truthfully. Lokmanya Tilak started this custom of Ganesh Chaturthi with a motto of 'Getting people together and closer'. So this is the most important thing, meet your dear ones and enjoy the day..

So, folks, this Ganapati, scream your hearts out with joy - Ganapati Bappa Moriya!
The Telly Buzz team would like to wish all of you a very Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!

Here's to the wacky Sanjeevani doctors …
Pankitt Thakker - (Dr.Atul Joshi)

You were referred by Prem Kishen (Cinevistaas) as a pathological bathroom singer.
So, how many songs are you required to sing?

Every episode will have me sing at least two songs. My character has
different kind of mannerisms as compared to the rest. Apart from
singing, he's also very eco-friendly. He doesn't appreciate people who
smoke. He's overtly concerned about pollution. So, he comes to the
college on a bicycle.

What are the things that you've learnt by playing a medical
intern?

I've learnt that you inject a patient at an angle of 45 degress. Also,
once you're in OT you can't scratch your hands or touch any part of
the body.

So, are you beginning to practice in real life too?

Up till now, I haven't. However, after doing this show, I can say that
I've become a first-aid doctor.

Pankit's character in Dil Mil Gaye.......

Dr Atul Joshi

A lovable character, Atul is the best guy friend a girl can ever have, without ever making him a real boy friend. He is a good natured, easy going boy, who has become a doctor to fulfill the wish of his dead father, who is part of Sanjeevani alumni. His father worshiped Sanjeevani and Shashank Gupta and he has come to the place of his father's worship to pay his tribute t the man who adopted him. He is always treated like one of the girls when girlie talks are being discussed. When he realizes certain people cannot be changed, he takes mater into his own hands and empties trash, puts cups in trash and carries his own porcelain cup so that the use of Styrofoam cups in Sanjeevani can be reduced.

would love to be born as a Star Son - Pankit Thakkar
We catch Pankit Thakkar, aka Dr Atul Joshi, for some quick fire griling.

Your Nickname: Sweetu

Your Best Personal Quality: Sincerity and Optimism.

Your Weak Point according to you: My naivety. I easily believe everything and everybody and take everything at its face value. That has caused me a lot of grief and pain.

Your Biggest Influence is: The biggest influence in my life has been my own optimism. I have complete faith in myself. That is why even when everyone had advised, even warned me against becoming an actor as they thought I would never make it, even my astrological charts seem to say so, I kept faith in myself and finally became what I wanted to.

If you could go back in time you would...? : I would want to born as a star son so that I could at least get a launch vehicle.

If you could be anyone else you would be...?: No one. I am happy the way I am.

Greatest gift you have ever received: To be honest, nothing noteworthy as such.

First thing that you do when you wake up every morning : I go to the kitchen and make myself a cup of tea. It is something I like to do myself, as I am very particular about the way I have my morning cuppa.

Your best role so far: I enjoyed shooting for Special Squad. Sometimes, you click with everyone on the sets. Special Squad was like that. Starting from the spot boy to the camera person to the actors to the script writers, everyone bonded there. We had a fabulous time. Also, my the role I played in Kabhi Sautan Kabhi Saheli I believe had many shades to it, and its very close to my heart.

Working in Dill Mill Gayye has been : It has been very different, and very professional. Because of the tight shooting schedules, we have not have had quality bonding time. Everyone keeps to their make up vans if they are not shooting, and the atmosphere is highly professional and driven. I love it that way as I also love the time I get to myself.

As told to Minnie.

"Special Squad May Return"

It began quite like Grey's Anatomy. Four medical interns and one big bad hospital. A few months into Dill Mill Gayye and it has turned into yet another soppy romance.

Pankitt Thakker who plays one of the interns, agrees. "It initially looked as if everyone would get equal importance. But eventually the principal characters got more scenes. That's what always happens in Star's soaps," he cribs.

But the actor is quick to add that he hasn't been sidelined yet. He also jokes about how the lead characters (Karan Singh and Shilpa Anand) keep crying all the time these days. To the forefront Thakker, best remembered for his blonde-streaked brat act in Special Squad, seems to play his cards well. He claims that his character wasn't supposed to be funny until he brought on the changes himself.

"I realised that Armaan and Riddhima had the author-backed roles. I had to do something to make sure I wouldn't fade away into the background," he explains.

What about Muskaan Mehani who is missing from the action? Thakker reveals that the actress wasn't happy with her role and wanted out. The creatives worked it out in such a way that she can make a re-entry whenever the script has something better to offer her.

Did he ever feel that way about his role in the show? "Arre mera toh usse bhi gaya guzra tha," laughs the actor. But he stayed on because he was allowed to incorporate changes and also he gets along well with his co-stars. Laughter to the rescue What about co-star Shilpa Anand faking an illness to go on a partying binge to Goa some months ago? Thakker laughs saying he did try to get in touch with his fellow medical intern. "But she didn't take my calls," he says.

Despite being around for a while, Thakker hasn't achieved the status of a 'star' yet. The actor, however, doesn't regret this.

When he moved to Mumbai a couple of years ago, he bagged the lead role in a daily soap. Soon after he got married and had to make sure he could provide for his family . Pick and choose "I'd pick any role if the money was good.. I was never choosy he says, adding that ," now that he has made big bucks, he can pick and choose. "Now I'd like to work towards becoming a star," he asserts.

Since he identifies so much more with his Special Squad character, is there any chance of the show returning to Star One? Thakker claims he has heard stories about a second season but isn't sure as yet.

Tom Alter enters Siddhanth

Posted online: Friday, September16, 2005 at 0000 hours IST

After Pooja Rawal's entry as Anamika Arekar in Siddhanth, Tom Alter has come into the serial as her father Senior Arekar. Regular viewers have already seen Anamika as the dashing lawyer who has swept Siddhanth off his feet, both personally and professionally. Her father will be heading a law firm and will be quite an admirer of Siddhanth, much to Anamika's disgust. This leads to a discord between the aggressive Anamika and her calm father. Alter plays a renowned lawyer from UK who has just set up base here and has an eye for young talented lawyers like Siddhanth. The upcoming episodes will have Alter mediating between the two lead protagonists Anamika and Siddhanth as they battle out each other not only in court but also on a personal level.

Missing Special Squad
Kuljeet Randhawa who plays the protagonist in Kohinoor misses being part of the Special Squad. "I had to quit the show because of my film By Chance. Given a 'chance' I would love to be back on the investigative show," confesses Kuljeet. In the show she was shown as a tough-as-nails cop who tolerates no nonsense. "Very rarely do you get to portray this kind of a role and I loved the set up," admits Kuljeet. Is the Special Squad clued in?
