Today I loved the explanation given by Ram for AP with the 3 level of consciousness. First is the physical level or conscious level. That is why physical impurity is easily noticed as even you are aware of it. Now why Ram says the physical impurity or conscious impurity happened to Ahalya. Yes it was a mistake of Ahalya but even then she was unable to distinguish between her husband and another man. If we see Ravan plays the same trick with Sita. He comes in the form of Ram. But Sita identifies Ravan. Actually that is the victory of her conscious or the complete physical knowledge Sita has about her husband. She distinguishes Ravan from Ram with eyes and Ahalya fails and a consensual relation happens. So she suffers punishment.
Sita shows the need to be aware, conscious of the surroundings, conscious, aware about your loved one to avoid the physical impurity or conscious impurity. Most woman will pass this hurdle as we all have woman instinct and most of us know to keep ourselves within the maryada and are also able to distinguish between our husband and a look alike. One more thing you have to note here is in case of Ahalya it was consensual that is why it becomes impurity. Rape does not belong to this category where a woman is forcefully violated. That's why Ravan holding Sita and taking her doesn't make her physically impure. Because it was done using force, not with her will.
Now comes the subconscious which reacts to the senses. We are aware of it, but unlike the conscious many people do not have control on the subconscious. We feel. Ram gives the classic example of Renuka who after seeing a prince had impure thoughts in her mind. She was a married woman and it was not proper for her to have such wandering thoughts about a man. See in marriage we do give promises and surrenders ourselves to our spouse and ideally no other person should take that place even in mind. So having such thoughts creates subconscious or emotional impurity which is not seen, but you know it. Sita even after seeing the luxury of Lanka doesn't allow any thoughts of it in her mind as she is completely devoted to her husband or rather Sita doesn't react to senses, but make her senses act according to her wants. So Sita is not impure at emotional or subconscious level. There will be woman who can keep control on their senses and resist impurity at subconscious level. Note that telling the qualities of a person or admiring the qualities doesn't create subconscious impurity. It is the fantasizing with another man that happens in mind is what called subconscious impurity.
The last, the unconscious this is the toughest one. Because the unconscious creates perceptions and these perceptions change from place to place, time to time and from person to person. Even if a person is pure at physical and emotional level, perceptions can create untruth. They can make a pure person impure. AP was done to protect Sita from perceptions, because only a third party validation helps in clarifying perceptions. And these perceptions are deep rooted in our unconscious. We don't even realize them till we face certain situations. It is based mostly on hearsay than our own conscious validation of thoughts. Perceptions are feelings good and bad and before you submit to them it is very important you validate them with logic. Perceptions are neither right or wrong. It is upto you how you use perceptions.
It is the perception that makes a pure Sita impure because a Ravan took her. And gives clean chit to Shanta who is impure both at physical and emotional level because she went to seduce a man, seduced him also. But a married woman clad in the clothes of sanyasini living in a parnasala is not expected to have impurity, but a woman snatched to the luxury of Lanka can have it.
Ram tried to protect Sita even from perceptions. And it is because of AP only the question now is still not on Sita but on the impurity on the minds of people of Ayodhya. Sita stands vindicated.
If you look at Krishna he played with perceptions. He knows the human mind which creates perceptions and he used those perceptions to do his job of establishing dharma which we lovingly call Leelas
Now coming to Bharath. He is hell bent on vachan palan. But look at Ram. The way he keeps the promise. He doesn't directly come, but sends his messenger informing his arrival. The so called vachan palan can be done in many ways without harming yourself. Bharath in his self inflicted misery forgets all his other duties which is that of a son and husband. The so called people who stick to vachan palan taking only one role cause more harm than good. The way Bhishma does in MB. He was only a son and he forgot all other duties when he does the so called Vachanpalan.
Last but not the least. The puspak viman and Ram-Siya -Laxman coming in it is the reason which the people of Ayodhya knows about Ram's Lanka conquest, why it happened etc..If he had come back walking maybe not many would have known about the Lanka heist apart from the royal family and people close to them. But Pushpak viman makes the entire people know about Sita Haran and war on Lanka. And it paves the way for the next part of the story. It shows as you go higher up, problems intensifies.
