This story is not from the Valmiki Ramayan, it is a folklore. I thought it was interesting, so I am sharing it with you guys.

Lord Rama wanted to do be victorious in battle against Ravana, and for that He wanted to establish a Shivalinga and worship it. Now to do this, a priest was needed, but in those days there were no priests found in Rameshwaram. So Lord Rama was in dire need of a good priest to perform the rituals.

Ravana was a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva and was also a Brahmin by birth. So Ravana's brother Vibhishana (who was on Lord Rama's side), told Lord Rama that Ravana was very well-versed in the rituals. So Lord Rama sent an invitation to Ravana to come and preside as the priest for the pooja at Rameshwaram.

Ravana accepted the invitation and came. But then he told Lord Rama that the pooja would be incomplete without his wife being present. No pooja or yagna can be performed without the wife's presence. So he told Lord Rama, Since you are a married man, both you and your wife have to sit together for the pooja, otherwise you cannot perform the pooja'.

Then Lord Rama said to him, It is the duty of the priest to provide an alternative for anything that is missing. Since my wife is not with me (having been kept in captivity by Ravana at that time), please tell me what the alternative for this problem is. Can we keep a doll in her place as a substitute?'

Then Ravana said, I do not believe in alternative. I would want everything to be present for the worship of Lord Shiva. So I will call your wife here for the pooja. After the pooja, please send her back to Lanka'.

So Ravana brings Sita for the pooja. After the pooja, when Lord Rama and Sita bowed down to touch the feet of the priest, that is, Ravana, to take blessings, then Ravana blesses Lord Rama by saying Vijayi bhavaha' (May victory be yours!). He had no choice but to do so.

When someone touches the feet of a priest, he is left with no choice but to bless that person. So Ravana had to give that blessing to Lord Rama for which He had organized the pooja. He also blessed Sita by saying Sumangali bhavaha' (May you receive all that is best and auspicious always!) Such was Ravana's magnanimity. After blessing both of them, Ravana took Sita back to Lanka with him.

Today's episode was a jumble of emotions, and Sruthi di and Anu di have analyzed their respective parts beautifully. So, I am going to analyze the theme and one other point.

Today, Ram comes to know something about Sita. He is told by Sugreev that she was crying for help from the sky, and that one of her ornaments fell down. It was her pearl payal. What was the purpose of this payal? As we know, it was to help Ram and Lakshman find her. But what is its deeper meaning? Pearls symbolize purity, a quality that Sita embodies to the greatest amount. Losing her pearl anklet symbolizes Sita losing her purity. But wait, Sita never lost her purity. But, she lost it according to the material world, which is symbolized by the tangent payal. Here, Sita tells Her Lord that no matter what the world thinks, she will always be devoted to Him, in any situation. And Ramji understands her, as always, and mourns thinking about the future and their life-long separation.

The theme of today's episode is vows. Ravan vows to attain Sita at any cost. Ram vows that for his sin, Ravan will be hated for centuries to come, and that he will free his dear Sita from his clutches. And Hanuman vows to forever be with Ram as his servant. What is a vow? A vow is a pledge made to a person and yourself to accomplish a task. Vows held great imporatnce in the Raghu dynasty, to uphold them, the royal family would even give up their lives. This great clan teaches us that once you make a commitment, you need to fulfill it at any cost. For when you break your promise or lie, a piece of your soul dies, for the soul, like a plant, thrives in the Light of Dharma and withers and dies in the Darkness of Adharma.

Prakriti-Sanskriti dynamics on play once again. I will start from Lanka. As usual Ravan decides that Sita should be taken by force. That's what Sanskriti does to Prakriti. When Sanskriti feels Prakriti is not responding to its language Sanskriti decides to use force. Rarely does Sanskriti understand using force and fear Prakriti can be conquered physically, but not emotionally. The unbridled Prakriti will bring bring destruction. And as a message Meghandh comes at that point telling Surpi is killing every person who takes food for her and now no one is going near her. That's Kali, Prakriti in its most destructive form near which Sanskriti would not dare to go.

Now Trijadha is afraid and she tells Sita Ravan will use force and Sita tells Ram will protect her. Sita asks Trijadha to close eyes, then hold her hand and ask her to tell the name of Ram with focus and shraddha. Trijadha tells and she sees Lord Vishnu. Now we need to understand one thing. When Trijadha came she wanted Sita to look into her open eyes, so that she could influence Sita thoughts. To show faith Sita uses closed eyes. With open eyes you understand Sanskriti and with closed eyes you understand Prakriti. To survive in this world we need both. Only thing we need to understand what we see with open eyes is illusion, Sanskriti's Maya. We need to observe it before arriving at conclusion. What we see with closed eyes is intutition and we need to listen to it so that we get guidance.

Now the same thing is displayed in Hanuman-Ram. Ram tells who he is and why they are searching Sugreev. And then he asks you still didn't tell who you are. It is Lord asking the Bhakth to reveal himself. Reveal and surrender his Prakriti to Lord, in his seva , trusting him. Without doubt , with full trust you have to go to him. Hanuman sits at his feet, but Ram hugs him. And that's the relation of Bhagwan and Bhakth. Bhagwan doesn't treat bhakt below par. He respects his true bhakth as part of him, supporting him in his mission.

Now we came to another interesting aspect. When a man misbehaves with another man's wife death is his punishment. So what if a woman misbehaves with a married man. What is her punishment. If you look both Ramayan and Mahabharath you will get the answer clearly. Mahatwakamsha in a woman means destruction of her lineage. Kaikasi loses all the power of Lanka. Kaikeyi loses her son. Satyavati completely loses her lineage.

Punishment for Sanskriti, Sanskriti gives, punishment for Prakriti , Prakriti gives. And the root cause of a forceful Sanskriti stems from the Mahatwakamsha of Prakriti.
