So Rama could not make eye contact anymore and left. But before he left,he said that the feeling that someone is waiting for him will keep him going and that's why she has to stay back. He doesn't want any possibility of Sita's plan to come into the picture. Still his argument was not strong :-)

Before that, it all starts when he comes in and she looks at him with lot of expectation. And he talks of viyog. And she says he is doing his putra dharm meaning that she has some role to play there as she is the putravadhu. He says its much more than that implying she has no role in this extended dharm. Very smart but doesn't work with our determined Sita:-) And of course she says this palace means nothing without him.

What works for Sita should work for Urmila. But here, Rama is karta and Sita and Lakshmana are the supporting act. And Urmila is Lakshmana's supporting act. So everyone has a role to play. Sita's is to share his pain of being away from his loved ones and provide support in his mission. So is Lakshmana's. And Urmila's is to support Lakshmana in his. So one size doesn't fit all. But the consistency is still there.

Again, in Valmiki Ramayan, the conversation is very lengthy and beautiful. Today's was beautiful too. In the original, Rama was more vocal about Kaikeyi's treatment towards Dasharatha and Kausalya. And even asks her to behave in front of Bharata the new king. More relatable.

Another big change. Its their son(in my pov) ie. Lakshmana who hears their conversation with tears in his eyes. It would have been so consistent. But here its Sumitra.

And what was a very private discussion that ended with Ram's okay, is now discussed with others and Ram's decision is still pending. Quite out of place.

Now the big question, since they are showing a Rama who cannot express himself freely even a bit(about Kaikeyi's decision or anything. Well they showed Rama showing concern to Ashwamedha horse in his time and age which was out of place. Almost a sanitized version). Will they show a bold Sita who will outsmart her Rama?

Both Madirakshi and Ashish are doing well. Their scenes are a treat to watch.

I dont know much about Mandavi's character but saw in earlier versions of TV Ramayana and she was a sensible woman who was devoted to Bharata.

Today Mandavi said the most sensible words and almost shook up Kaikeyi. Showed a mirror to her. Kaikeyi knows about Bharata's love for Rama. She said the most logical thing and also in line with what she knows of Bharata. A very emotional man who thinks from his heart and would never dream of this. She also goes prophetic about Bharata having to take the blame for this. Right but too prophetic(SKR characters are soothsayers)

Then came Kaikeyi-Dasharatha scene. Dasharatha scenes are very well written. They stand out.

Rama and Sita went into silent mode. The whole sequence was beautiful. First, the 'getting stuck' scene and then the 'valkala-dharana' scene. The music was great.

But I wish they talked to each other more. This sequence was probably the most they talked to each other (apart from two more in the forest) in the whole of Ramayana. And needs justice especially to the character of Sita. If they wanted to show Sita's perspective, this was the poster sequence.

But the scenes were very much inline with their love and respect for each other.

Sita made her decision today. Came out very emphatic and vocal about her right and duty. Liked the line about Maharaj Janak. That its in line with his teaching. And he would be happy with it.

The dialogue writers were too confused when she replied Vashishta. That it was not patni dharma. But stri ka nirnay, patni ka nirnay, kulvadhu ka nirnay.

But the adhar for patni ka nirnay is patni ka dharm right? She herself has said that before(to kausalya). I haven't seen messier writing before.

Kausalya of Valmiki Ramayana kisses Rama, does special Puja and havans for him, cries for him. Here, she stands at a distance raises her hand. Most underplayed relationship shown in this SKR has to be Rama and Kausalya's. No dialogues spanning more than 2 lines between them yet. And Rama goes silent when in front of his own mother.

Writers have really got it all wrong in Rama-Kausalya relationship.

And what's with the glycerine? Only Vashishta had tears in his eyes and felt like crying. The rest(Kausalya was a bit ok too) didn't look like they were crying but tears were just flowing down the cheeks and the lighting is such that we don't see them most of the time(especially Rama's; even though he didn't cry today).

Thanks Santhi for the episode recap and review.

I find Ram and Kaushslya's relation and interaction very cordial. Ram behaves with her in the same way as the other 2 mothers. No emotions..
Dasarath and Ram's interactions have always been great and so nice to watch.

Sita looked good in the red attire. Quoting Raghukul history, part about her worry for him if she stayed back, Janaka's thoughts mirroring hers was good.

Yes, the talk about various dharmas and Stri dharma was confusing. What they wanted to convey I think was that whatever be my role in life, first of all I am a Stri and I made my decision! As a woman I don't want to feel pressured by others opinions and want to make my decision and do what I feel is the right thing to do.
Like you said dialogue writers got confused with their writing there.

Bharat and Shatrughna back in the picure with their hearts feeling restless.
Manthara is still not done with her twisted theories..

you said it Aparna. Sita showing her strong self was great to watch. The way she replied her saasu ma(s) was full of logic and conviction.

In all this, Rama was getting answers for questions he couldn't have asked(he definitely could not have asked what Sumitra asked). And he couldnt have asked Vashishtha's questions too(since they are tilted in favour of Sita already). I liked how he stood in admiration.

Yes I too forgot to mention Ram's admiration of Sita when she was answering all the elders.
Another thing that bothers me is Kaushalya saying repeatedly about Raghukul reethi rivaaj. Did not the daughter Shantha do something not of royal

Also good was Lakshmana and Urmila scene. No Rona dhona. She just understood her husband.

And is this how Kaikeyi is portrayed in Valmiki Ramayan? Since her asking for her 2 vardaans, I'm not quite liking the extreme hatred shown in her. Yesterday when she comes to Dasarath to remind him of his vachan, she seemed too rude (I have not come to sympathize, I'm here to remind you etc...)

She is that way in Valmiki Ramayan. She is the one who offers Valkal to Sita. She is adamant. Rama actually ties the bark for Sita(reverse shown in SKR) when she repeatedly fails to do so.

Why dont u read the above and previous sargas too.

Kaikeyi becomes so hard hearted that she does not show remorse even when she tells bharath of King Dasharath's death. I think this kaikeyi is leading up to that.
The writers did fare badly in Sita's dialogues. They want to portray their version of 'a woman's choice' when the original 'woman's choice' in Ramayana is hard to beat. Sita as the confident woman explaining her side of things and Shri Ram's admiration for her is one of the most beautiful moments in Ramayana.

I am still not seeing Kousalya talk some facts to King Dasharath. She laments and tells king Dasharath about how he has taken away her last joy in life.. king Dasharath accepts that and they share their sorrow at Ram's exile.
This version of Kousalya seems to believe what she keeps saying.. that kaikeyi has more Hak on Ram than even her.

Also Kousalya actually asks Ram to take her with him to the forest. Here she stops Sita in the name of reethi.

There is a scene between bharath and Kousalya when he returns back where she almost tells bharath that he may have been complicit with kaikeyi. .. that scene shows just how much heart broken Kousalya was. How will this Kousalya ask bharath that question?

Today, things settled down. Rama had relief in his eyes. After he gave in to Sita. His smile was back.

Sita-Urmila scene was touching. I liked how Lakshmana let Urmila do the talking. As if he was guilty:-) And she held the upper hand.

Writers can extrapolate the gaps.

Then came Rama and Sita scene with Kaikeyi. Why would Rama say he is relieved. He is disinterested in throne. Fine. But she relieved him from Dharm Sankat? The writers have a sanitized version of Rama in their mind.

Rama tells Dasharatha to take care of his mother Kausalya. And is categorical about his feelings towards the treachery of Kaikeyi with Lakshmana.

Liked the beginning. Agree Ram was relieved and happy that Sita will accompany him. He had to say Yes, because he didn't have a strong point to oppose Sita's reasoning. That ended well.
The scene with Dasarath was very good. Felt so bad for him when he spoke to Sita. Rightly he told Ram that he had already stated his decision, then why seek permission now?
And then to Lakshman when he asks him what about seva to pita?

Ram's dharma sankat part. So it seems like he has always felt and sensed Kaikeyi feeling insecure and feeling Bharat inferior to Ram, not liking Dasarath always praising Ram etc..He has never doubted Sumitra. The line that all four grew together, equally educated, got married at the same time, Then that means the other two brothers are also equally eligible to become king na?
I guess since he understood Sumitra's heart so well, and always felt Kaikeyi restless, he concluded that this is why he felt that way and she cleared his Sankat.
