Once again the episode surprised me with the beauty of Rama's thoughts, and the righteousness with which everyone viewed the bidai!
Janak's message to Sita about how she must make allowances for the fact that her sasural people don't know her from childhood, and so will naturally judge her based on her behaviour and how she must thus be very conscious of her behaviour

Sita's request to her father to give more time to her mother, and fulfill her wish of learning, was also really a delight to see.

Dashratha's words that while Janak and Sunayana may have sent Sita as a bahu, he was receiving her as a daughter, was also something that is exemplary!

The three mothers, impatient to receive the sons and their brides, having been denied the joy of being a part of the ceremony, was also well shown!

And last and most significant of all - Rama expressing his gratitude for being considered worthy of Sita - how many men think like that? I once again felt that Rama is the epitome of gender equality and neutrality! If Sita is fortunate to have a husband like Rama, so too is Rama fortunate to have a wife like Sita - and that he feels it so, and is not hesitant in voicing it, is what makes Rama so exemplary in my eyes!

All in all an episode, where the true code of conduct was evident, where everyone understood their role in making Sita Rama Union a happy and successful and everyone played their role ideally!

Even today, bahu is not beti, she is not as appreciated as she should be, and once again Ramayana shows us the way to happiness is when everyone respects the institution of marriage and supports it lovingly and positively!

@Arshics the final wisdom of words Janak gave to his daughter was a beauty. Yes it is something every father should give his daughter. And he gave her one more thing. Never to compromise on her self respect.
And Ram the more I am seeing SKR a new Ram is emerging in front of me. Slowly I am understanding why he is called Maryadapurushottam.

He is not like the 3rd grade men of today who are comparing themselves to Ram and making a mockery of his greatness.

He was a man of principles, man of values and a man who knew his duties. His actions had great inner meanings each one of them. And I am happy I am watching SKR

Yes, the beautiful dialogue of self respect - protect it at all costs, even if you have to give Agni pariksha for it. I am curious to know how SKR will present the Agni pariksha, as the concept of Agni pariksha is not syncing with this Sita and this Rama.

I too am happy to be watching this show - for two reasons - one the show itself is enlightening, and second the kind of discussions that we are able to have on this forum - the learning and the good thoughts that I pick up from here are itself something to be thankful of!

Once again I can't help but compare it with the other shows of today - 6:00 dirty games being played to throw the daughter in law out of the house

6:30 - ditto, 7:00 pm - kidnapping, bigamy, abuse, 7:30 - murder, alcoholism, sceheming... All these are supposedly family shows that showcase and uphold family values and have randomly thrown dialogues about sanskar, and parivar and ekta and sach ka saath ...

Loved yr post Arshy. Before SKR I never really tried to understand Ram. Whenever the topic came the only thing that came to my mind was Agnipareeksha n Parityag of Sita. Whatever elders used to say I was never convinced. But SKR is making me think differently atleast to keep my mind open. The message that is conveyed in each episode is really needed in the present society. How many parents will be able to give the advise that Janaka gave to Sita n how many of us will be able to accept it like Sita did.
All the four brothers were fortunate to get wives who understood them and acted accordingly that the family was never torn apart. It was a dark period for them. But they came out of it together and more stronger.

It is alta - or mahavar- a red coloured dye - I have not seen it used in bidai - this was a first, it is used in griha pravesh, when the new bride steps into the thaal of alta and then enters her new home, leaving her footprints, or her palm prints on the walls of her new home

Like Mehendi it is auspicious, used extensively in Bengal during Pujas too.

So true dear, the lessons of this Ramayana are meaningful and relevant and will enrich our lives, whether this is the original Ramayana or not, it is certainly an inspirational depiction of Rama and Sita and hence meaningful today.

The four brothers were indeed lucky to get wives like the Janak putris, for their sanskars actually helped Ayodhya survive the crisis and still the brothers stayed United, and the rajya undivided.

It could easily have caused a war between Bharat and Rama and subsequent division of the kingdom, but the brothers and the sisters preserved the most important thing of all - the moral fibre and family unity!

Thanks Arshics for the info. One more, brides kept the palm prints in mithila not in ayodhya right. So its not their new home know.

@Ramya my mom was telling the alta keeping and putting rice behind can be symbolism that even after the daughter leave the home, let her home has all the prosperity. Daughter is Lakshmi right. So when Lakshmi goes from a home it is believed that prosperity is going, so it ensure prosperity remains she is keeping her palm prints in the house.
