I don't know what to start, from where to start. Am late in updating today. Still pondering over what is really noticeable today? What should I dig deep into?
In the first place, I didn't knew why vishwamitra story was brought up till I saw a pattern. Exactly a PATTERN.
If Monday was about observing, Tuesday was about understanding Wednesday was about promises today it was about actions.
As I said previously every episode has a POINT. It was there even today. Is it cruel vishwarath? Or a forgiving Vashishtha?
It was RAM. A point that is consistent from Monday's episode. He observed, understood and promised. Now he professes to act. How? He didn't do anything, right?
He did a lot. The almighty himself went to his desperate devotee to hear his agony. He quietly listened to the story. He didn't flinch, cringe or curse. Instead stood silently to seep in the pain that a soul felt.
I won't talk much about the story shown in the flashback except about 'kaamdhenu' or 'icchapurti'. I mention these words here because a parallel symbolism is drawn here. Its a cow. Yesterday we had vasudha (earth). Earth symbolically is seen as a cow who provides the mankind with everything. Isn't it interesting?
Yesterday sita's wish today we have Vashishtha's wish in flashback. Shruthi your "manoraj" was bang on re. Am loving this totally as our symbolisms seem to follow a path and everyday we get something so that we can continue from where we left.
It was so symbolic. The cow gave what was wished. The earth shall give what will be wished. An interesting point made was "punyakarm". Meaning, ur wishes will become true if ur deeds, motives and ways are good. (@gmgi I hope you get one more angle to your query)
Vashishtha got his wish fulfilled because of his good deeds. Sita will get it because of her good deeds.
Now you may ask, why was vishwarath granted his wishes when his motto wasn't pure.
Yday and today we had a discussion " look for what you wish". It may break you or make you.
In case of vishwarath both things took place.
His wish actually opened his eyes, breaking vishwarath and making vishwamitra...
Mark the difference in the words, "rath"- to rule, egoistic, hard, cruel, enemy.( metaphorical meanings, not literal)
" mitra"- friend, compassionate, soft,understanding.
Terrific contrast it was... Two sides of a single person...
Coming to the title now. Why I chose "PENANCE"
Penance is punishment.
Vishwamitra wasn't forgiven for no reason. Though forgiven he had a lingering guilt "atmaglaani" which is the worst form of punishment.
It is said don't kill the person for his bad deeds but kill the evilness of his soul. Set his soul free of the evil. This can only be done by removing guilt. Guilt is a complex feeling. It is bad and it is good.
Vishwamitra has his share of punishment in the form of guilt. Now, why was RAM necessary here?
A chotu pointer: after a death, during the funeral period as the corpse is taken on atimyatra what is said? What is played?
"Ram naam satya hai".. You'll hear
"Ram" everywhere.
"RAM" frees the soul of the evil. He takes back the soul in its pure form. Meaning, RAM gives Moksha.
Presence of Ram was crucial here as vishwamitra's soul had to be cleansed of the guilt..
His penance was over. He suffered it for years..
As per the precap ram advises him to apologize Vashishtha. Isn't it valid? Free your soul from the guilt by apologizing.
The same happens when a person dies, isn't it? We chant the name of Ram so that the soul is cleansed of the bad deeds that the person did and in hope that he will get a better next life.
Actually I have a personal experience on this. My dadi went through a lot of pain in her last time for almost 4 months. We believe in karma theory very much. My dadi had supported a wrong deed in the name of love for her daughter. Everybody time snd again asked her to correct her mistake and tell the truth. She didn't budge. But again she also had a long list of good deeds in her name. But as it is said you have to pay for every single deed of yours. That is what happened. Shruthi, the wish theory really hit me hard for this sole reason. Not just personal wishes but also what u wish for others is important. U never know it will backfire. That's what happened with my dadi. She laid in bed with paralysis suffering from bed sores.
I lost her in January. She wouldn't speak much in her last days, but the regret was visible in her eyes. We believe she bid adieu when her soul was cleansed of all the bad deeds. She did got her penance for her deeds in the form of physical pain and suffering.
Coming back to the episode...
As today ram was present to lessen the guilt of vishwamitra, years later what will happen to ram? Will he be guilt stricken? Will he undergo penance? How shall the Lord free himself from this trap? Will he be able to apologize to sita in time? Or will drown in the sea of agony?
The episodes till now are in perfect relation to each other foretelling of what can happen.
