some things I got 2 know from some books & some from my granny. as be it Ramayana or Mahabharata , there many stories related 2 it which r undiscovered. as in serial sita got 2 know about herself from gargi & sita wanted 2 know what her sister's reaction will be, well my granny told that there is a small story in which from someone sita's sister got 2 know about sita , some lady did ques on being sita a princess , it was urmila who took stand 4 sita & said may be I m biological princess of mithila but it does not matter 2 her, for her only sita being her sister matter most & it is d only truth 4 her. some books it is mentioned that urmila was d female version of Lakshman 2 sita , thou sita luved all her sisters but was very fond & attached 2 urmila & before surrendering herself 2 goddess earth she send luv & kush under urmila's care. urmila was exact opposite of sita , she was chirpy kind somewhere shown in serial 2 . like sita only urmila 2 fell 4 Lakshman on first meet, Lakshman luved urmila deeply but could not expressed it. among d 4 sisters urmila lead d toughest life , rest 3 somewhere were close 2 their husbands but urmila was not in 14 yrs.
I heard that urmila again got seperated from Lakshman during sita's second vanvas.
in serial Lakshman & urmila both r shown as chirpy & prangkter kind , both like 2 tease bharat & mandavi. hope they show their luvstory 2.

Urmila sleeps for laxman during the 14 years of vanvas. She Infact sleeps the entire 14 years.
Her importance is normally diluted.
In skr even though she is shown as teasing etc. I am a little disappointed that the 3 sisters and the 3 brothers are shown less capable.
Only siya seems to know everything.
Yes the whole serial is from siya point of view. But hope they don't make her preachy and miss know all. Which will make it irritating rather than inspiring

@TM - Thanks for sharing the info..

@jayvenk - Agree with u over the depiction of the 3 sisters and bros. They are literally shown as not even having basic common sense. But regarding Urmila's nidra theory, AFAIK, it is some folklore and such a story is nowhere mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana.

Nope not mentioned in valmiki Ramayana. Her nidra is mentioned in some other version.
Urmila sacrifice is almost a no mention by most though.

Urmila, his wife

Stoically she has sat,
Giving no hint of her loss:
Not a word, not a glance
From those beautiful eyes
That gaze upon shame and suffering.

He only gave her his blessing-
Only touched her hair
As she touched his feet,
And even though it was farewell
To her, he looked to his brother,
With whom he must' go
And spend fourteen years;
Dutiful Urmila, daughter of Mithila,
Must stay behind to stitch back together
What Kaikeyi has pulled to pieces.

Dasaratha lies dying- Rama has gone.
No Bharatha, nor Mandavi,
No Shatrughna nor Shrutakirti
To help flowerlike Urmila
Bear the first, greatest burden
Of a father's death.

No going with Bharatha,
With all of Ayodhya,
To Chitrakoota;
Dutiful, docile, husband-less Urmila
Must stay in the palace
With the other wives.

The war of Dharma and Adharma
Will be fought for Sita;
Shrutakirti will hold Shatrughna's hand,
As they think of their prince;
Mandavi will serve Bharatha
As he rules the kingdom
In Rama's name-
The name of Bharatha will be immortal
While Bharatha is still alive.

And still nothing is left
For Urmila-
Fourteen years of cold, silent palaces,
And a colder ,empty bed

Perhaps Sumitra may understand;
For she has sent a son to the forest,
A son who was not banished.

And he has left Urmila alone.

Lovely post dear.

Even I wished to see lakshman and urmilla's story coz not only ram Sita got separated but they too. They too bear the same pain ..she too remain away from her husband for 14 years..
depiste living in palace with others and her sisters she is still lonely. Sumitra has set a rule or ritual don't know that no brother should be alone ..makes urmilla alone..

And about urmilla taking stand for Sita being bhoomija ...am damn interested to watch this story on SKR..
Hope they show...

How urmilla and lakshman again got separated on sita's second vanvaas???
