That's because it's also a Star Plus show and SP thrives on negative characters and drama. 😆 The more negative characters, the better! This show will fully use Kaikeyi, Manthara, Ravan (and most probably Mandavi!) for drama.

I haven't been watching this serial, but today, I just dug back to see the priceless Ravan jaap of Mandavi. Saw the Jan 13th episode, and my, was that funny!!! Actually, Urmila being vocal in her support of Rama made sense, but Mandavi being such an advocate of Ravan was just hilarious!!! 👏

It's tragic that she won't get to marry Ravan. Or will she ❓😆

This is kaliyug and in this yug we empathize more with those characters that are closer to our general makeup, to our characteristics.. So is it a wonder that fiction writers 'base' their story on the Ithihaas of Ramayan and Mahabharath but empathize with the dark and grey characters? It's because a lot of us feel the need to assure ourselves that we are not bad.. If we have some qualities of Raavan and Duryodhan in us, it is easy to justify those characteristics than take some action to remove those shades from us to become better. That is why we see people argue that it was Draupadi's mistake to laugh at Duryodhan and Karan that led to her vastra haran.. That is why we blame Shri Ram for Sita's exile instead of looking within us and accepting the fact that we would have done the exact same thing the washerman did if it suited our needs... instead of removing that sense of prejudice and gossiping nature from inside us.

I do not have an issue with fiction writers taking liberties but the fact that they peddle it out as the 'right' interpretation sighting volumes that are also just interpretations of the actual text is what is wrong.. It is important that they make it clear that the take was not based on any fact from the actual Ramayan.. To keep saying we referred to 300 versions of Ramayan is in itself self-contradictory.. How can an epic written by Sage Valmiki during the times of Shri Ram be the same as the numerous other versions written way later by others who would have based their writings on the Ithihaas?

Ithihaas in itself means 'it so happened'.. The argument that there is a version of Ramayan that said a different story is basically wrong.. It should rather be, there was a fiction based on Ramayan with liberties taken probably sometimes to the extreme.

To add extras to the narrative as poetic license is all good as long as it says that..

@RamKiJanaki one doubt... does skr mention they are taking syamvar from kamban's ramayana?

I'm curious as kamban's ramayana has no mention of syamvar itself , let alone the notion of ravaan coming for syamvaar.. ...

there is a mention of satyanand explaining vishwamitra that many kings have tried lifting shivdanush before and failed which angered them and they fought against janak and also when janak hears all about rama's deeds from vishamitra were vishwamitra states because of all these qualities "rama means more to him than his life itself"...janak expresseshis desire that all his grief would be gone if rama could lift shiv danush and tie it...

and as valmiki, in kambar's too parashuram comes after wedding...

In Valmiki Ramayana, Parashuram comes after the wedding, after the vidaai, while the baarat is on its way back to Ayodhya.

In Tulsidas' Ramcharitmanas, Parashuram comes right after the swayamvar. As the story of the swayamvar itself is from Ramcharitmanas (Valmiki has no swayamvar), previous serials on Ramayan have shown Parashuram come after the swayamvar. Previous serials' swayamvar sequence is an exact (nearly word for word) rendition from Ramcharitmanas, including the Parashuram episode.

As SKR is using Kamban's Ramayana as its source for the swayamvar, I do not know when they will show Parashuram.

Today was more or less a filler episode, the story didn't progress much.

The whole scene between Ram ploughing the field for the old lady was sweet but unnecessary, They're dragging each episode more than needed, and Ravan was very overbearing today! He was an arrogant man but he wasn't supposed to be overbearing. He's like that one annoying suitor everyone hates but has to put up with for the sake of reputation. The way he was like "I'm going to take a nap and come at the end of the swayamvar since I know no one else will win and it's all a waste of time" was very childish, and such a stupid dialogue. 🤣 It's not the dialogue of a well-renowned King, he sounded like a petulant child on the verge of a temper tantrum.
