Why are they trying to show Kaikeyi as an insecure wife who doesn't even tolerate her husband spending time to have a meal with his first wife. And they are showing her so vulnerable that she express this with Sumithra openly. Then was all her love towards Kausalya was only because she was keeping distance with her husband and was not claiming his time and love? she was a good wife and sister till such time the coronation is announced for Ram and Manthara fried her brain so much that she decided to take the help of the Vachan her husband granted her for helping (saving) him in one of the war. Here the CVs are plotting her as outright evil or insecure. They are also trying to show that king Dashrath had promised the king of Kaijkeya (Kaikeyi's father) that her son only will be crowned. If that was the case, then why were everyone was treating and calling Ram as Yuvraj?

@Jaya I will say it is better to show Kaikeyi as a insecure wife. See how can a woman who is really good, loves Ram to such an extend suddenly brainwashed by someone else on one fine day. It is better to show slow poisoning. Kaikeyi has always got Raja Dasrath's maximum attention. So they are only showing when the attention gets diverted a little she remembers Manthara's words. See on most occasions it has to be shown she handles it, just like the moti ki mala she picked up. But then at some point she loses control and ask the boon. When Manthara says Kaikeyi don't look into Ram's eyes itself I had felt this. They will show a gradual degradation where Kaikeyi stops seeing the love in that serene and gentle eyes, and will end up seeing everything else.
Yes that boon of Kaikeyi's child the king. I had read that in Mali Ramayana but if I am right there was a sub condition that provided Kausalya has no son or Kaikeyi bears the eldest son. But yes there was a promise like that. Wikipedia also talks about it
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaikeyi so if you look the promise is nullified now. As Kausalya has son and he is eldest. Need to wait and see how CVs take it.

@ Shruthi, as far I have read and heard about Kaikeyi, the new diversion I know was that she was advicede by vashisht as none of the other queens of king Dashrath had the strength to put their husband to death and embrace the widow life for the love of their life. Kaikeyi was the most loved one and the youngest and also had a boon to get two of her wishes granted unconditionally. that is why when king Dashrath's end approached, the saint went to Kaikeyi and asked her to be brave and act according to the situation. So she followed saint Vashisht's advise and asked for Dashrath to grant her the boon and she knew very well for this she will be hated by her own son. Bharat had not met her during the whole period of 14 years of ram's exile and only upon Ram's insistence, he forgave his mother in the presence of his beloved brother and sister in law.

Exactly,
I always felt weird of the sudden change in KK
She was happy even after hearing Ram's coronation news
Suddenly due to Mantara's brainwash she not only wants her Son to be King
but also sends Ram for a Vanvas too
Here they are taking it gradually
It's just my take though

@Jaya I have also heard another story that Ram was born to kill Ravana. So when Ram's coronation was announced the Gods were worried that how will he complete his life's mission. Hence they requested Goddess Saraswati to sit on Manthara's tongue and spoil the coronation. So it is said that not even Manthara, but it was Goddess Saraswati who made Manthara do it as Ram has to complete his life mission. So the fact is there are multiple versions for mythology. I guess CVs are more taking from human emotion perspective than divine perspective.

@ Shruthi, yes I have read that Manthara infact was loving Ram like her own grandson. And just to complete the mission of shrap given to Dashrath by Shravan Kumar's parents she has been used as the weapon to spoil Kaikeyi's mind. If we can recall, even in this show, she called him Yuvraj though she tried to spoil kaikeyi's mind towards Ram and she was equally enthralled to be addressed as dadi by Ram.

In the ACK Dasharath, Kaikeyi was actually described as his favorite wife for saving him during that Devasura war. That enabled her to actually disrespect both Kaushalya & Sumitra. Both of them were hurt, but would keep silent so that nothing spilled over to Rama. Kaikeyi was a good wife but never a good sautan, until after Dasharath's death.

Dasharath did promise Ashkhavati - Kaikeyi's father - that her son would be yuvraj - this was to persuade him to give Kaikeyi to him in marriage. This was discussed some years ago in the first Ramayan serial in this thread Kaikeyi's Brideprice and the Throne of Ayodhya

Showing Kaikeyi as an insecure wife is not totally wrong, because in Valmiki it does say she was proud of her position as Dashrath's favorite wife and treated Kaushalya and Sumitra as inferior. However, this show is taking it to a whole new extreme (like with almost every other character) by showing her downright jealous and bitter.

The new promo is totally wrong on all accounts! While Kaikeyi may have been jealous of Kaushalya and Sumitra, she loved Ram like her own son and NOTHING came in the way of their relationship until Manthara poisoned her mind. Kaikeyi never once thought to make Bharat King, like the promo is showing. It's so odd and totally out of place to show this political stuff even before Ram-Sita's marriage. It looks so out of place and weird.

When Kaikeyi was first told of Ram's coronation by Manthara, she was immensely happy and gifted Manthara with a diamond necklace. That's how much she loved Ram. It took a lot of brainwashing for Manthara to feed on Kaikeyi's insecurity and change her opinion about Ram.

Now they're going to have Kaikeyi hate Ram even before his marriage. Way to go CVs, you have just butchered yet another character. 👏🤬

Hi thanks for the details and the link. but here they are trying to show thing different. Why did Sumithra called kaikeyi as didi? kaikeyi was supposed to be the last wife and in that way Sumithra elder (even if not by age). I can understand her feeling proud and all but just with one day things doesn't change overnight and she should not have felt that insecurity that she had to get herself decorated for the night. How could she not even felt to meet Kausalya (at least for the courtesy sake) and asked about Shanta.

Feeling proud and feeling insecure just with one stray incident are totally different aspects. Just because they want to bring in Young Ram and the coronation, they should not rush so much that the viewers will get confused about their knowledge of Ramayan. In her anger she didn't even meet her children, not even Bharat and went ahead to get dressed up to woo her husband. Yes as a wife half the age of her husband, she may feel that neglected but not so much that she could not understand her husband's eagerness to know about his daughter of whom he have been missing for years.
And about her love for Ram, I don't think she will start hating him but she feel why she could not give birth to him who is the elder son and also the one who have all the capabilities required for a king. So that is what she expressed to him in yesterday's episode. She feels if he were her son, there was no need for her to do anything or hurt him by asking the throne for her son. And I don't think they will show her insecurities in public before their marriage though she may mention that to her husband.
May be we will get to see Parushuram taking the 2 princes Ram & Lakshan with him to save his yagna and then from their he will take them to Sita Swayamvar. As indicated by Ashwapathi, Bharat and Shathrugan may go to Kaikeya and will go to Mithila from there directly to get married to Mandavi & Shrutkeerthi.
After their return to Ayodhya, king might announce the pattabhishak which will be stalled by Kaikeyi.
