Disclaimer- No bashing. Criticism is welcome as long as it's not a personal attack. Talk strictly about characters only.

I have made many posts in this forum from time to time. And this time, I am compelled to make one on Mauli, on how she is a real character but flawed in her own ways and those ways are not that good either.

I will take on 3 cases here to state my opinion-
1. Mauli on Kunal's clinic- I understand that as a wife who loves her husband very much, she wants to be a n active part of Kunal's dreams. But I don't understand the whole surprise part of this clinic. Clinic is technically a building with people, machines, license and other things which usually take months to come into actual picture & Mauli plans to do it all alone for months without letting Kunal know anything. Why? Why does she not think of taking Kunal into the picture. And I don't understand Kunal's mom supporting it either. There is absolutely no harm in fulfilling the dreams together and that's exactly what husband-wife do. It's not a car or a flat or some gift, Mauli decides to buy herself and gift it to Kunal. It's the man's dream in which he should have the right to make certain calls when in process. For how long does Mauli plan to hide it from Kunal.
Makers have tried too hard to show Mauli as perfect, which is not the case in reality. I have seen married couples closely where both come together to fulfill each other's lifelong dreams rather than play surprise, surprise. Mauli decided to makes decision for Kunal when it comes to his dreams.

2. Mauli on not using contraception anymore- Considering that she has done that means Mauli wants to have a child now & Kunal doesn't know it. It means earlier Mauli was the one who took responsibility for contraception & Kunal didn't have to worry about it which makes it a consensual deal between them in contraception. Now, the deal is broken which is likely to lead to a pregnancy- wanted by Mauli but unwanted by Kunal. And I have a gut feeling that she will get pregnant & reveal the news the moment Kunal will be on the verge of taking certain decisions.
Now, Kunal's reaction to Mauli's pregnancy will be 50-50, 50 on he will be angry & want Mauli to abort the child, 50 on he will be keeping Mauli & the baby on priority.
But in this, Nandini will stand by Mauli for sure without any doubt. If Kunal gets angry for it & asks Mauli to abort the child, Nandini will the one to stand for Mauli against Kunal. Because Nandini knows what it feels like to be asked to abort your child you want dearly, she has been through the pain of loosing many of her children only because her husband didn't want them. And despite her strong feelings for Kunal, she wouldn't want her best friend to go through this pain. A motherly instinct of a woman is much stronger than wifely instinct. And Nandini will work on this. Nandini will tend to heartbroken Mauli who will be in shock when Kunal asks her to consider terminating the pregnancy.
Even if Kunal decides to choose Mauli & baby, Nandini will not become a hurdle at all.
But here is the thing, shouldn't Mauli at least discuss about starting a family with Kunal rather than getting pregnant & again play surprise-surprise. Understanding & mature couples talk before they actually get on to have the baby. Mauli is again making decision for Kunal in another important situation of husband-wife.

3. Mauli being so non-possessive about Kunal- This is what bothers me very much. I have seen very very understanding & mature couples but non of them were free of absolute possessiveness they had for their partners. There is always a tinge of jealousy, possessiveness which is good at times. Too much possessiveness and jealousy is unhealthy & toxic but the same thing in limit is very important to have a healthy relationship. Mauli is literally unconcerned with Kunal-Nandini spending so much time together. On Mauli's command/request, Kunal goes to drop Nandini, pick her up, folllow her to temple, helps her shift, pack, unpack & what not. WHY & HOW?
There is an old saying, never trust your partner(husband/wife) absolutely with another person(wife/husband) no matter how close that person is to you. (Trust must come with a pinch of salt to avoid it from becoming blind & all sweet). Human nature is susceptible to corruption & find comfort from unknown people when it doesn't find it with their dear ones. And most of the times, this old saying has proved to be true which is why it has become an oldies advice to the young generation.

I understand that Mauli has immense trust in Kunal & Nandini but shouldn't you just check it some times, if your trust is at the right place. Mauli has created a perfect world in her mind & she lives in it without realizing that reality of this world is changing. There is no harm in trusting someone that deeply, but not being bothered about your husband spending so much time with your friend who is another woman is rare. And on the top of it, Mauli pushes Kunal to spend more time with Nandini. I have also made a post on how Mauli needs to sort out her priorities at times.

I will no longer talk about what has already happened, i.e. Kunal-Nandini's realization of certain feelings and there is no turning back to that, but I want to talk about the decisions & prospects that will be taken from here.

And more I look into it, I discover Mauli's flaws. Mauli has taken on the charge of being the sole decision maker of her marriage & decide everything on behalf of Kunal herself. She tags Nandini along with her everywhere, tags Kunal along with Nandini, decides on Kunal's dreams, on her future with kids. She doesn't sense Kunal's silence at all, she isn't bothered about why her husband who used to be chirpy as hell is silent for some time now and she isn't even trying to know about it. Mauli's assumption that her marriage is perfect & needs no introspection whatsoever makes her so delusional. There are times when all you have to do is read the silence when someone is struggling with their thoughts & emotions. Communication needn't be with words only everytime, sometimes, it can happen with silence as well.

Makers have tried to show Mauli as so perfect, that people find it impossible to discover flaws buried underneath & that's why Mauli has unchallenged sympathy of everyone including me. But I can't help myself from pointing out her flaws as well. She will still have my sympathy but somewhere along, I would say Mauli failed to sense the changes brought up by sudden gush of wind.

Kunal has his flaws, Nandini has hers & Mauli also has her own faults. Marriage is a tricky thing and it needs lot of attention from various aspects to complete it's course of life.

Thank you for a wonderful analysis.

It is been a while since I have watched an Indian series and this one attracted me because of the concept. I love how real emotions are depicted. Whilst I totally understand and do believe that emotions and feelings can change and it is truer when it comes to partners. Our relations with our parents, and siblings is something that is connected by blood; however, when it comes to life partner the possibility of perhaps being involved with someone else is not that far-fetched. It can and does happen.

I have watched this series and I have the same questions as you for a wife Mauli is amazing and she unconditionally loves her husband as she should. What I am not able to understand though is that with so much love she makes decision without consulting him. Having a child is not a minor thing and anyone whom has children will know that. It should always be a joint decision (there are exceptions of course) when possible. When there is a couple such as them I honestly am unable to fathom the reason for "surprising her hubby. I mean if they were actively planning and then she found out she was pregnant then yes the surprise makes more sense but why would you want to surprise your husband when you are wishing to get pregnant?

The possessiveness bit? It depends. I am assuming that she thinks Nandini is like her sister so she trusts her like one would their sister. I know if my husband was talking to my sister all the time it will not bother me but yes if he was talking to my best friend all the time, then it's time to have words ;) Again, at times I find that she is pushing him towards her (again it could be that she considers N as her sister and in that scenario it kind of makes sense).

I honestly feel bad for her because no matter what the minute you emotionally feel anything more than platonic towards other then you have emotionally cheated and that worse than physical cheating (again in my opinion). The way the bond between Kunal and Mauli is shown I think them having a heart to heart would have been fantastic but I am looking forward to see what next?

Regarding Nandini, I can relate to her as well. She has latched on to the first kindness a man has shown. I don't know much about her background but it appears that no one has shown her the unconditional confidence or the faith and therefore when she found it from a man who was a total taboo she couldn't let go. At least I know why she is falling in love, I really don't know why Kunal fell in love.
I am a hard core liberal and I am of a strong belief that if one falls out of love then it is not a crime. I am not able to understand what made Kunal fall in love but he did and that is absolutely okay but to not disclose that to his wife (it could be that they both can decide to go for counselling or separation, I don't know) but let's see.

If Mauli gets pregnent then it will be shocking news for Kunal for sure. But he will never ask mauli to abort the child. He loves kids and he will choose Baby and Mauli over Nandini for sure, which is right also.

Really well thought out analysis. I have already commented on another post that it will not be destiny but Mauli who will be bringing Kunal and Nandini together.

Sure, but then Kunal is in conflicted state of mind. He might not say the words but apparent unhappiness might tell something else from his behvior.
Which is why I have considered both the scenarios. In both of them, one thing is sure that Mauli will have Nandini's support.

You're right and destiny will ubfold itself through Mauli only.
It might go Kuch Kuch hota Hai style or some other way. Since, makers want to keep everyone's basic personality traits intact without ruining anyone in this show, so, they might show one character make the graceful exit to pave way for another to blossom. Be it Mauli or Nandini or Kunal

Very well witten and explained.

I don't think Kunal will ask her to abort the child as he is a pediatrician and very fond of kids but if Mauli does not inform him about the surgery before the bedroom scene and if she just springs the pregnancy on him, it might bring a major divide relationship. Currently he does not see any flaws in her, she is the perfect wife for him and he is the bad one but all these secrets once revealed will definitely widen the cracks that have come in their relationship or may bring them together.

Also, you nailed that point so well that why is she bothered with his silence. She is not even trying to find out. I mean you can immediately a change in your partner and Kunal personality has taken an 180 degree turn but still she is Ok with everything and what will all the secrecy.

(sorry, just cutting to keeping it short as I just wanted to respond to point#1)
there is this tamil movie called "santosh subramanium" (which is a remake of a telgu movie) and in it the conflict is about an over-possessive/controlling father who does everything. he on the other hand wants to start his own business without his father's help and marry someone of his own liking -- he basically wants to make decisions himself. when he finally confronts the father, he says "you ask me to join in playing carom game but before I can make the move, you hold my hand and do it yourself. then why should I play if you are going to be making all the moves yourself?"

now that was a parent-child conflict but that sentiment and frustration would still apply here as well. mauli thinks she is helping but she is actually stealing kunal's dream and destroying it. part of the joy in realizing a dream is the hard work that goes into it. if he had asked for her help and asked her to take care of the logistics, it is different. but he didn't. so by doing it herself, she is also indirectly showing that kunal is incompetent when it comes to these matters and that is a real punch that will tear their relationship. if kunal is the type of man who likes being gifted and getting things easy, then he would appreciate it. but he seems the opposite and so he is bound to take offense. she in a way not only butchering his dream but butchering his self-respect.
