About vanars you r right they are humans with monkey look..can't pinpoint exactly but maybe similar to apes. Plus most r descendants of god's gandhar etc. Divine beings. As far as i know barring Hanuman I don't think any of the vanar prajati has survived or if any they r well hidden.

There was a show called KarmPhal Daata Shani, where they showed this in details. My sister was a huge Rahu actor fan, the dude was quite handsome, she watched the show only for him

According to what I read vayu agni jal etc they r forces not gods. Indra brings rain for harvest etc. But in any yug he is depicted as very arrogant and lusty. He has more powers than others that's why he is made king and supreme power is only with trimurti brahma vishnu shiv.
