Well, my dear Anu, thanks for such a warm welcome! I am glad to find some of my CN group here too.

I watched the first week of Shani as I was curious about the aitheeham, the traditions behind his birth and his mission. These puranas always fascinate me. Besides, it seemed that one of my favourite writers, Utkarsh Naithani of DKD Mahadev and Mahakumbh, is writing this show.

But the preposterous sets and the lousy acting in that week, especially by Chhaya and Suryadev, plus the ghastly VFX with that Godzilla like creature, were enough to drive me away. Then my dear Alakh persuaded me to come back to it after a week, and so here I am.

The one actor, in fact the only actor I really liked was the little boy who plays Shani. He is eerily competent, and he looks the part to a T.

But they should avoid ridiculous scenes like the one with the Godzilla, which even 8 year olds would look at with disdain these days. They have to make up their minds what it is that they are making, something for kids or a serious mythological !😉

And the gods are not properly cast - Vishnu looks as if he has been dipped in Ujala😉.Suryadev is stiff. Chhaya reminds me of the eternally weepy Nirupa Roy, and Shukracharya is pathetic when one thinks of the one in Mahadev.

Anyhow, now that I have been brought back, so to speak, I hope for the best. I hope you do no think I am being too caustic, my dear, but one has to be honest, and I had high hopes for an Utkarsh show!

In DKD Mahadev Shukracharya looked more well behaved😆

Thank you so much, my dear Srutha! What a lovely id and such a marvellous DP photo you have!

I don't know about any wisdom that I might have, my dear, but I love being among young people, beginning with my dear Alakh, and I am sure I shall enjoy being with all of you. And if I do crack jokes, at times at the expense of some of the characters here, you must not mind that. As Alakh knows, my tongue is very often in my cheek!😉

But I must say that the little boy who plays Shani - Karthikeya? - is an absolute natural, and a real find for the producers. He has deep set, very dark eyes like jamuns, and they mostly look like dark pools of mystery. One cannot fathom what he is feeling or thinking. He is a total introvert , always coiled up within himself, silent, watchful, totally self aware. But there are times when the eyes look tragic.

Last night, when he has found out, thanks to the well-meaning folly of that Kakul, that his mother has another kid, he is broken inside, and the eyes reflect that pain that he tries hard to keep hidden. It must have been a shattering revelation for him, that his mother had been lying to him all this while, but he will not confront her. For he loves her too much to embarrass her.

The oblique comments he makes, about her working too hard at her aaradhana and that she should take it easier, would have been a red light to anyone but this Chhaya. She notices nothing of the child's suffering, his sudden aloofness, the odd things he says. I found that very hard to understand, for a mother always has her antennae out to capture the mood changes of her child.

I also wish she did not sport that odd contraption behind her head, like a bamboo frame. If she would just have her hair loose, she would look vastly better.

Tonight, I was very pleased when the arrogant Yama is effortlessly put in his place by Shani, and nearly despatched to the doors of death. It is an intriguing idea, is it not, for the future Lord of Death to be himself nearly killed?

But what really enchanted me was the expression in Shani's eyes as he looks at his mother, prevented by Suryadev from coming to him, and then slowly moves back step by step. In the end,as he is leaving, he turns and looks back at her, and his eyes speak volumes. There is reproach in their depths, there is infinite sadness, there is unfathomable pain. And the boy holds this expression for a long, long moment as the camera zooms in. It could not have been easy, but the kid aces it.

I am looking forward to seeing him put his father in his place as well tomorrow.

Thank you so much aunty :)
I agree with everything you say 😳
I wonder if I should analyse what you have said about Yama further and put it in a separate post, as well as analyse Shani and his actions.
