So much to say on how success is defined (for another post).
I watched A aa this weekend. What am I missing? I can't fathom why the movie won so many awards(for the Cinematography and songs, I can believe). Sam sleep-walked (IMO, nothing to write home about) her way through the movie from one suicide attempt at the beginning of the movie to another near the end. She was dragged to the finish line by the rest of the cast .... again, when she finally woke up.
Her plastic surgery was the most awful it has been in her career and on top of that, she had to share screen time/space with Anupama Parameswaran. Sam looks completely plastic, bloated and distorted in comparison. AP even did her own dubbing even though she did not speak Telegu then.
I watched an interview with Sam, Nithin, and AP. AP was praising her costars when Sam quipped about there not being three heroines in the movie but only one - herself (Sam i.e.) - many a truth said in jest?
Here's the link .... YT

I realise now that she has been obnoxious for a while ...it just didn't twig!
I'd dearly like to know what you think of the movie "Khamakha" with Manjari Fadnnis and Harshvardhan Rane? It's my go-to feel-good short film.
❤️

I liked Sam in A aa , but like you said earlier , Chinmayee's dubbing helped her a lot ! I didn't notice it before , but had it not been for Chinmayee's voice , Samantha would have failed miserably.
Also , agree on the surgery part ! She looked so bad in some parts of the film , I couldn't look at her 😔.
Anupama did a fine job , but Sam did appear to be dismissive of her and Nadia . She was kind of OK with Anupama in one interview , but completely ignored Nadia. In the one you mentioned everyone dismissed poor Anupama .

She looked different in this movie.. I guess she has gone through many surgeries in recent years...(she looks completely different now) as far as her performance is concerned I think she has always been overrated...(yes, she is a good actress no doubt)
Somehow I don't get that genuine feeling anymore.. it's their job to be presentable infront of the camera but I find her too artificial...
Again I may be reading too much between the lines but after her marriage I could see some changes in her behaviour yes she was rude with Divyansha during promotion but somehow better than her earlier interviews. I started liking her only after her marriage. Her Flimfare interview with Chinmayi was very candid. (both Chay and Sam came across very real)
Would love to know your view on this :-)

Thanks for the suggestion. Just finished watching it. Such a refreshing story, brought an instant smile on my face.I truly believe a good conversation can make your day. And a movie like this instantly lifts your mood. Both the leads are amazing. Harshvardhan Rane has so much potential. It's nothing sort of a masterpiece.
Well I would like to point out that actresses doesn't have much screen space as compared to actors(from2009-2017 I mean).if you take Sam's filmography, you will see that she is more than 45 films old but chay is just 19 films old.
Sam started acting in serious movies, character driven movies only after her marriage.before marriage in all of her films she had screen presence of 30 minutes and 3 songs..that's not much..that's not going to cost you any time..
If you ask me , she had a lucky start with ymc and then she appeared in all of big hero, big production banner movies and built a strong fanbase..only after her marriage she started to concentrate on character driven movies like u turn,oh baby,rangastalam,jaanu,etc..
Remember even in majili movie sam had screen presence only in second half..not the entire 2 hr 30 min..so it's totally understandable if she has done more movies than chay..sam is talented,yes..but equally overrated.
That clearly reflects in their payscale as well..heresay Google's networth of sam is 84 c but chay is 154 c..I don't understand why everyone criticized chay when the alimony rumours cropped up.stardom, fanbase and popularity is clearly not equal to money, isn't it?I wonder why no one thought along those lines..
Sam has just now announced in her insta handle about an international project..am happy for her and equally sad for her..wish chay and Sam become #chaysam once again..alas it's in almighty's hands.. hoping for the best and keeping my fingers crossed.

So true! There is so much about Sam that is just hype. I loved her in Thanga Magan. She had even less screen presence than in Majili but she payed her role beautifully. However, to extrapolate her performance in that to every other movie she acted in would be a mistake. She definitely benefited from being an Akkineni-Dagubatti kodalu. "Oh Baby" was a Suresh Productions and there must be a myriad of other ways in which the family association has played in her favour.
This habit that the most vocal parts society seem to have with equating fame with excellence is very disappointing. Sam's PR strategy, capitalizing on this phenomenon, must be a winning one (Note: not comparing her to other actresses but only to the craft).
Payscale: ITA! This, though, has been the argument for female-centric roles: more screen time.

Thank you for the links, D_ancing_fox. I had tried, unsuccessfully, to find the episodes you had mentioned, until now.
A few observations:
1. Chinmayi had so much of affection for Sam and Chay. The break-up must have been tough not just on the ex-couple but on their friends and family.
2. How much would Rs 5 be in today's terms (inflation adjusted 20-25 years ago)? Sam received Rs 5 pocket money everyday (of school) to buy herself a chocolate. Somewhere in the interview, she talks about doing modelling/photoshoots (in a mall) with her friends to earn extra money to buy stuff for herself. Again she talks about going into modelling to supplement the family income. What were her older brothers doing? Why couldn't they help? In another interview, she spoke about not having enough money to call home during the shooting of YMC in New York and about Chay lending her his phone to call home. Were Gautam Menon and the production crew so mean, they didn't give the actors a daily living allowance? How could she not afford to call home? I see many actors, entertainers and public figures using poverty stories to justify their current privilege in anticipation of criticism. Is Sam one of them?
3. Sam's crush on Chay: I believe Chay had a crush on Sam from YMC days but it was not reciprocated. Sam said in the interview she had a crush on Chay since YMC but the timing wasn't right (or something like that - them being in relationships with other people etc...). However, the very talented, dishy Sid happened.
I made the fatal error of watching Chinmayi's interview with Shruthi Hassan after that. Just wow! Even the super-talented Chinmayi seemed in awe. I can see why Shruti and Chay would have broken up.
(Quick comparison between the two interviews)
Plastic Surgery: Shruthi is necessary plastic surgery done right, Sam is unnecessary plastic surgery gone wrong.
Authenticity: No contest - Shruti wins hands down!
Family: Kamal Hassan has had a very tangled private life. It must have been tough on his kids. Yet, Shruti speaks with so much of affection and respect in the interview about her parents (like Chay). With Sam, I wonder why she continuously throws her family under the bus by emphasizing (paraphrase) that she was was sent out to work to supplement the family income. To me this sounds like forced child labour when she says it - her parents sending her out to work in a notorious industry. Why should after school or weekend jobs be so unusual? Many of us in my friendship circle did it.
Ya! Sam's interviews are very enlightening.
