Good Morning

A holy man was having a conversation with God one day and said, "God , I would like to know *what Heaven and Hell are like."*

God led the holy man to two doors.

He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table *were thin and sickly*. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles, that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the *handle was longer than their arms*, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. God said, 'You have *seen Hell.'*

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were *well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.*

The holy man said, "I don't understand...".

"It is simple, "said God . "It requires but one skill. You see , they have *learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves."*

Think About it…

Good Day

Good morning forum members and friends,

I am going to be busy the next few weeks and thought that it would also be a good time to take a break from the story " Avan, Aval, Adhu " for a few weeks.

We have reached chapter 390 of this story and there is a long way to go before we reach the end. So, I am sure none of you will grudge me for taking a break. I will continue to post other stuff such as the promos and clips from " Baakiyalakshmi " the serial I am acting in along with jokes, short thoughts, and yes if possible songs too.

It's been 17 years since I began my journey with all of you and I am sure that you will not mind too much for this abrupt break.

I wish all of you a beautiful day. Be well.

Light, Sight, All Right Even In The Dark Of Night

“In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present.”- Francis Bacon

The lights blinked out. The AC Compressor groaned as it ground to a halt. The fan already at slow speed decided to stay quiet and quietened down and left me and the world of humans around me in a deep and dark unquiet.

In the dark, I reached out and after struggling for a few moments, my fingers found the portable, rechargeable fan and light and the groan of despair turned into a moan of ecstasy and a loud sigh of relief.

I whispered blindly in the blinding darkness as I pressed the button on the tiny instrument " Let there be light " and there was light and my sight was returned to me. I turned the instrument towards me and pressed the button and whispered " Let there be wind " and the tiny fan breathed into me spinning its tiny, delicate plastic limbs.

I sat in the darkness, illuminated by the spotlight and gently buffetted by the tiny fan, and then switched them both off and sat drowning in the darkness and thought, ' What is different? What has changed? What is not that was then?'

' Nothing ' I whispered to nobody and somewhere deep inside my brain, between the folds of the left and right brain, neurons lit up and I too lit up with my own light.

Light, Sight, Might even, in the dark of night and Light through the windows

I opened the windows and bright light overpowered my sight

Light as if shot by a machine gun slanted through the rusty grills

the beams painted, sketched squares on the floor

shapes of the grill and leaves outside the grill

The years dropped away and the worries flew away

slowly the child in me lifted its hand and twirled the digits, my fingers

old memories of younger times in younger days among cousins

flooded and my fingers twirled and curled

lo and behold the deer of old raised its horns and shook its snout

I lifted my finger off my thumb and the deer opened its jaw

I giggled and made a bee and the shadow flew on the wall

I buzzed as the bee in excitement and I closed my palms

the fish swam in all directions vertical, horizontal

it swam on the white wall of my bedroom

I sighed in pleasure and my knees gave away

and i thought of the song " antha naal nyabagam'

back to doing the bed and fluffing the pillows

I whacked the bed with the bedspread and the rays of light

caught the dust of the earth and caught the dust of my body

cells once alive, cells from my skin, a brown hair here and there

and they floated as wisps, as alien creatures whispering

ashes to ashes and dust to dust

and yes the words from the song by Kansas rang a bell "Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind."

I am therefore and henceforth I am

The mammal most probably spotted the fruit or the meat of a freshly dead ( Although there is nothing fresh about dead ) and descended from the branches of the tree that it called home and then slowly, gradually over a few million years, it stood up on two limbs whence it had stood on four limbs and saw the world for the first time standing straight ( although it did not realize that it could see better from the tree).

Maybe the mammal a deviant of the primate species, was deviantly watching out for its mate while flirting with another mate or had been plain and simply punished for doing bad and failing again in maths ( Like me. Yes, it's me).

"Necessity is the mother of invention," which indicates that each of our needs, great or small, motivates us to put out an effort and work hard to meet them and thus man came and rose into being from its ancestors, the primate species.

Early man lived among other animals like animals hunting when possible, scavenging when possible, and generally eking out an existence. I bet early man must have looked at the tree for solace and protection and must have jealously watched as other primates scampered up the trees when a large predator came along and it was all too late.

So, he obviously took to caves and other naturally occurring safe houses and stayed out of sight when there was no light and his species were sans sight.

Then came fire. Then came primitive tools ( Funny that, for I see a lot of primitive tools walking around on two legs every day) carved out of stone.

Necessity. Invention. Intelligence. Experience etc.

But then came something else. Consciousness.

Consciousness means the quality or state of being aware especially of something within oneself.

Recently, a set of handprints and footprints were found in Tibet and has been dated as being more than 200,000 years old. Five hand prints and five footprints appear to have been carefully placed, probably by two children judging by the size of the traces. The prints were not left during normal walking and appear to have been deliberately placed. The child making the footprints was probably around seven years old and the other, who made the hand prints, was slightly older, at 12 years of age.

So, the human species has been consciously and deliberately expressing its consciousness and that is what sets us apart from other species of life on this lonely planet.

I stepped into the elevator and pressed 3 and the box groaned, moaned, and rose up, and I too groaned along with it and cast my eyes up in fear and caught sight of the latest version of human consciousness.

Whaat? Well, it was an expression. A sort of expression that can be called graffiti or at worse some sort of expression.

" I want to f..k you. Call me."

Well, an ape came down from the tree millions of years ago and something else that has no connection stood tall and somehow managed to write, and express its inner consciousness on the elevator.

One thing, whoever wrote that must have been a giant for how else could that ape have expressed itself?

So, today I give you consciousness and evidence of early expression along with our latest and trendy expressions.
