Yashika didn't exactly know what was happening. She only knew she was sitting in the front seat of a car in full bride's attire, her phone wasn't with her, and the worst man of her life was sitting beside her, constantly giggling.
And also that she hadn't fainted, but was sitting in her current position on will.
Pheww! She looked at her watch. 8:50. She knew her house was in a chaos right now.
She immediately smacked Amarendra.
" What the f**k? Now what did I do?"
" What did you do? What did YOU do? Stop the car! I said stop the car!"
Amarendra did that like a good boy...making an innocent puppy face.
" Yashu, your parents will be following us soon. We cannot stand here for long! "
" Until and unless you tell me what your plans are, I won't let you move! "
" An without exactly knowing what my plans are, why did you elope? " , Amarendra grinned.
Yashika went blank.
She was such a dumbass! Really so! She hadn't been in touch with this man for almost four years now, and yet she trusted him so much to not think for three minutes even about her parents before getting down the window holding his back and a rope, and now to sit beside him in a car on an almost empty road!
Yashika wanted to be extremely afraid. But not in her distant dreams even could she be afraid of this man.
Amarendra got down the car. Gentle breeze hit his face. They stood on a highway, almost empty with grasslands around. Yashika got down too and stood beside him.
" I don't really trust you Amar! But I do have an explanation to why I am standing here. I might have myself chosen for the marriage to happen, but I really hate this ceremony. I... I just wanted to escape the point of time. I will absolutely return home tomorrow and get everything alright, convincing everyone that I need time. " , she knew she sounded like an idiot. Really? Wasn't she ready for this marriage? When even?
Amarendra didn't stir for a while. And then looked at her. " I have an explanation for me being here too. I just wanted to make sure you are healthy and mentally stable. And that your fb account wasn't hacked. I mean I wanted to check ,if the message that got into my inbox today was really sent by the ever egoistic Yashika Malhotra. I am sure now, it wasn't."
Amarendra got back to the car. Yashika took sometime to comprehend, and then her blood boiled like in a pressure cooker. She banged open the door to the car and got in.
" Ever egoistic? Really? And what are you asshole? You left for Delhi, didn't even return for once in last four years, pinged only on festivals and occasions, and now you are getting engaged, that too wasn't known to me! What the f**k are you? "
Amarendra calmly stared at her while she knew her blood pressure had risen to extremes.
He brought out a bottle of cold water and held before her. She stared outside the window, breathing hard.
" My mother blackmailed me that if I don't get engaged now, she'll herself marry someone else. Now for dad's dead soul's sake, I was doing that. "
Yashika wanted to just bang his head on the steering. Stories and dramas.
" You didn't change an inch. That same old liar, over dramatic, flirt ARC. Apart from this forest on your chin, nothing changed. "
Yashika looked away again. She liked the beard though. She liked everything about him always, unfortunately.
" Mother promise! Not even a drop was a lie. "
" Then why the f**k are you here? You are supposed to be planning for your engagement tomorrow there in Delhi!"
" Because Amarendra Roy Choudhry never breaks old promises for new ones! "
" Old promises? " , Yashika straightened.
" Yeah! Of a pre wedding elopement! "
Yashika made faces. Amarendra looked on.
" So tell me what the message meant. I understand your complaint of not informing you of my marriage despite you not informing about yours, but still it's alright. But what was that about reminding me of my promise, on your wedding day? "
Suddenly Yashika's eyes turned sad. She looked at Amarendra with a lot of uncertainty. Her shield of self respect was showing cracks. She had thought she would never have to meet him again...but every equation changed within an hour.
" So your ego stops you again. "
Yashika's lips seemed sealed. Ego or self respect, that was the question.
Amarendra uttered as if reading her mind. " I know that exactly is the confusion you have forever lived in. Get off the car. "
For the last half an hour, Amarendra and Yashika stood resting on the car, staring at the full moon and counting stars. Wedding Nights were beautiful.
" Throughout the time of my life I spent with you, after I got to know what love meant, I had forever done that to you. Only. And you idiot would only notice how many girls smiled at me and I smiled back. How many rode my bike, how many hung out with me. You silly girl failed to notice how I would be there for you whenever you needed, how I had never ignored your messages or calls, how my Saturday nights were only for your blabber and not for parties and hangouts, how I wrote love songs and you would be my first listener, how I brewed coffee only for you, how my library hours were never for anyone else than you.
You failed to notice everything.
Yashika Malhotra's ego stopped her from doing the simplest things for me though. Like I never found a seat next to you if I ever were late for the classes. Maybe your ego said to you, if you would do that, your soft corner for me would show. What if I didn't care? Blind woman.
I left Hyderabad not only for studies, but also because I was fed up with your ego shielded in the name of self respect. Because even if you rag your mind Yashika, you won't find a thing you did for me that showed your love, despite the fact that your eyes clearly did. Your words did at times. But not your actions. I was done waiting.
And you blame that I left! If I did, that was just because your ego didn't hold me, have me, own me. I knew I could love no one else, but not even stay for the girl whose ego spoke for her.
The promise you reminded me of, was one of my failed attempts to drop the curtain off your eyes. But like everytime else, your " Shut up! " didn't show that it held any significance to you.
Do you really think only you are supposed to have what you call a self respect, and no one else on earth?
I knew I would return only if a day comes when Yashika Malhotra's words showed that she could give up her ego, at least for once, for me at least.
Today it did. "
Yashika had just held onto Amarendra for how long after this, she herself had lost count. She hugged him as tightly as she could, ducked her face into his expanded chest, and uttered constantly, " I love you too amarendra, a lot...like, a lot... I am...sorry... sooo sorry..." , Amarendra had caressed her hair and kissed her forehead.
" My mom wants me to get married to a girl. And since you are one, she won't have a problem with you." , Yashika smacked him. " I assure you nothing. Get ready to be thrashed by my dad...and Siddharth's dad. But no worries, everything is fair in love and war!"
That wedding night connected two lost souls again, through their laughter, through corrected misinderstandings, through love, this time, forever.
The End
