First shot
Yashika paced up and down the room. Her wedding lehenga was too heavy for her to carry, along with her mood from the morning which was growing heavier as time passed. 7 pm. There's a hullabaloo downstairs that the groomsmen would arrive at 8:30 almost.
But she had been dressed up since 5. Pheww! Marriage! Marriage! Marriage! As if humans were bound to do that, as if you might not do anything else in world but you have to marry.
Yashika felt like pulling off all the ornaments, washing off the overdone makeup and just getting into her signature jeans and top leaving this lehenga.
For the last half an hour maa was nowhere to be seen. So much excitement! She never thought her mom would be so excited to pull her off her head. No. She's judging her, she knew. But now she felt like judging everyone. Not only judge but just shoot everyone.
She herself chose Siddharth from a matrimonial site. They then had been meeting for the last few months . And now they're getting married. Everything so perfect! And Yashika hated perfect things. Not that she hated Siddharth or matrimonial sites or her family. But at present she hated everything everyone could do. Like everything prefixed or preplanned.
Yashika's face didn't have a trace of happiness or excitement. She rather found a grave feeling of disturbance painted nicely on it. She for the millionth time checked her phone and felt like breaking it. But then she dialed a number.
" Sheelu, I am waiting. And if you don't turn up in fifteen minutes, you won't stay alive to dance at my wedding. "
Sheelu stood with her jaws dropped.
" So what? Why is this such a big news? He's getting engaged only. That too tomorrow. And you are getting married. That too today. "
" ophhh ho!! This IS a big news! He's getting engaged and he didn't even care to tell me that! I got to know from his timeline on Fb! Can you imagine? "
" I can't imagine that you are so surprised. Did you inform him that you are getting married? "
Yashika fell silent and stared at Sheelu.
" See! Stop expecting crap from people. Everyone won't be at your service whenever you want. I am going downstairs, aunty might need me. And you sit here, stop overthinking and overreacting. "
Sheelu left.
Yashika sat on the bed like a dumbass.
So true! If she didn't inform him about her marriage why would he?
Yashika checked her phone once again.
Her 'seen' message on fb messenger adorned the screen, a millionth (plus one) time. " Wow. Congratulations on your engagement about which I wasn't even cared to inform. Why even? Who even am I ? I don't believe this is the same man who had once winked and said, ' Yashuuu... if you ever try even to get married to someone else, you will have to elope with me on the night of the wedding. ' I don't believe how you changed Amarendra Roy Choudhry! I hate you! "
Why the f**k?
Yashika threw the phone aside, covered her face with her palm and fell straight on bed.
Why the f**k did she sent him this message today morning? Why!!!!!!!
The feelings which she had carefully hidden forever just because she was afraid to lose her self respect, just because she forever couldn't understand that her childhood buddy loved her back or not, just because she had forever known that he was a big flirt, just because of which she never questioned him when he left for Delhi, just because of which she never tried to meet him again because he didn't too, just because of which she didn't even care to inform him about her impending marriage because they didn't talk anymore, how the f**k could she send that message to him??????
She sat up, ran towards the mirror and tried applying some extra puffs of foundation on her already decorated face.
Amarendra was such a closed chapter! She hadn't even really thought of him soon after she realised that his leaving Hyderabad was almost like leaving everything behind.
Soon after he had left, he would ping at times. Yashika never did. Her self respect was the highest on earth. She was treated like a princess at home and she expected exactly that from every man outside. Somehow she felt that she couldn't walk upto him and propose to him, if he didn't bother even after having brains enough to know everything. She needed to be very egoistic that way. And she felt every woman should be.
So when he left without saying or asking anything, she knew she had to move on. She did too. But what was that today?
Why did she do this even? Why?
Yashika looked at the clock. 8:10. Maa had once come to see if everything was alright up here. She acted very well. And now she knew, no more acting. She had to unfriend that man on social medias in real too. But she would make sure that her wedding photos reach him, by making the settings 'public'.
Yashika finally got up from the mirror seat. She felt pretty much confident again. Let him know, what was the big deal even! She wouldn't have to face him ever again right?
But then what about the tough girl image she always carried?
She thumped down again. Ohhh noo...life was sooo complicated!
She held her head and drooped down, shutting her eyes tight as hell.
" Some people expect things from others which they themselves never do. Yashika Malhotra has forever been famous for that. "
Yashika slowly raised her head. Did she hear something? She looked at the door. No one around. She hated herself. Stop it Yashika! You are daydreaming.
" You are not. "
Yashika got startled like hell. Then she followed the direction of the sound. And what she saw left her jaws ten feet down and her eyes on the verge of bursting.
Amarendra Roy Choudhry sat on the window pane with a cigar in hand. He slowly released a ring of smoke into the air, smiled, and winked,
" Wasn't the plan to elope, of today? Are you ready? "
Yashika knew she was fainting.
To be continued...
