Maddy to play Ramanujan!

The actor will play the ace mathematician in a Hollywood flick

Few know that Srinivasa Ramanujan, the eminent mathematician, was overweight and he died from stress-related illness. And, actor Madhavan – who is all set to play the mathematician in a film soon – is said to be putting on weight for the same!
A source says, "The film was supposed to kickstart in early 2012. But due to some unavoidable circumstances, it got pushed. Meanwhile, Maddy – who's very interested in the subject – kept researching on Ramanujan. As part of his preparation, he also decided to put on weight as he found the mathematician to be overweight." Titled The Man Who Knew Infinity, and based on the book of the same name by Robert Kanigel, the film will be directed by Matt Brown and produced by Edward Pressman. Colin Firth, of The King's Speech fame, is being approached to play the other vital role in the subject, that of G H Hardy. The relationship between Ramanujan and Hardy is key to this film as explored in the book.
"Maddy is quite excited about playing Ramanujan. He also visited Kumbakonam where Ramanujan hails from and lived, a while ago and learnt a lot about the mathematician," adds the source. When we contacted Madhavan, he confirmed the news and said, "Yes, I'll be playing Srinivasa Ramanujan in a film." However, he refused to divulge more.
