Re-cap : As the evening of Rajbeer's birthday progress into a romantic night, Preeto reveals that she has another surprise for him; just as she gets up to get it, she trips over her sari and as Rajbeer catches her they break into a sweet dance on the terrace. At the end of the dance he places her on the parapet wall. Preeto loses her balance for a moment and is about to slip off the wall as he grabs her holds her in a tight embrace. His fear of losing her grips him hard…
Its been a while that Preeto went downstairs to fetch 'another surprise'…"What is taking her so long?"… Rajbeer decides to go down to investigate…As he begins climing down calling out her name, Preeto appears on the stairs. She has a covered bowl & spoon in one hand and with the other hand she holds up her sari and also a bottle of water… As she sees Rajbeer at the edge of the staircase, he keeps looking at her while she struggles to manage everything at the same time! He has an amused smirk spread across his lips…She is finnding the sari so difficult…but she is looking so good in it! She looks helplessly at him and hands over the bowl to him…As he takes over the bowl from her, he gives her a hand to help her up the last few steps and they reach back the terrace.}
RB : Ab yeh kya hai? {Settling back on the chairs, he opens the lid of the bowl and his eyes light up at seeing the contents} Halwa! Tumne Meeta di se bhi kaam karva liya…? Sab se help le li aur kisi ko birthday party mein invite bhi nahi kiya…? How selfish of you Preeto!
Preeto : apko kabab haddi wala pasand hai? {She gives him a wicked smile}
Mujhe nahi pata tha….Koi nahi, sage se sabko invite kar lungi aisi shaam ke liye… {and they exchange a mischevious smile, she takes the bowl from him just as he is about to dig into it}
….Aur halwa Meeta di ne nahi, maine banaya hai… … {She says her words very slowly as she offers him a spoonful}
RB : Tumne? Khud? Apne haathon se? {This was just not something he had expected to hear…She hated cooking…she couldn't even manage a cup of tea…she had made Halwa? Unbelievable!!}
Preeto : Kyun? Nahi bana sakti??... Khao na… {She waits with the spoonful of halwa as he continues to stare at it in a state of shock }…..Kya hua? Kya soch rahe ho…?
RB : ….thoda dar lag raha hai…. {he squints his eyes in a deep concern and says this with a lot of suspicion} ….Isme tumne mirchi toh nahi dali hai?
Preeto : Rajbeer….! {Preeto raises her eyebrows in mock anger as he continues to give a skeptical look to the spoonfull of halwa in her hand…
She is not amused by his disbelief and his doubting hercooking to this extent…even though it is a well known fact that she couldn't boil water to save her life, and she knew he was pulling her leg…she still did not like it…after all she had made such efforts…the least he could do was show some trust and give her a chance…}
Preeto : Meeta di ki recipe hai…aapko kitna pasand hai….unse hi seekh kar banaya hai…
…..maine itni mehanat kari hai aur aap ko mazak sujh raha hai….{her voice raising in anger}
{He takes a mouthfull, his shock & skepticism still apparent….and then, he makes a face as he tastes it! He screws his mouth in a distasteful expression! Something was wrong…terribly wrong with the halwa….}
Preeto : Kya hua? Theek nahi hai…?
{She got worried - this was a bad idea. She should have never tried her hand at cooking…before this she had never managed to make a decent cup of tea also…
But she had wanted to do something absolutely special for him… something that he wouldn't expect…It seems her effort had resulted in a blunder! She was disappointed to have served him something less than palattable on his birthday…She had wanted this to be a perfect evening…but now it wa,s spoilt…
Rajbeer swallows hard….struggling to gulp the halwa down…}
Preeto : Bahut bura hai…?
RB : Tumne chakha nahi tha kya banane ke baad? {He says in a torubled, discomfortable tone}
Preeto : Nahi…par Dhruv jiju aur Ishu di ne chakha tha…unhone toh kuch nahi kaha….(her sentence trailing off to almost a whisper….she is nearly in tears}
….Kyun? kya hua?
RB : Bahut zyada meetha hai….tumne isme shakkar daali hai kya? {he continues in a troubled tone, as if he had sampled areally bad recipe}
{Preeto's disappointment turns into perplexity…what was he driving at? She was still mentally trying to recall the recipe and wondering if she had missed a step or ingredient or something…}
Preeto : Shakkar?…haan…toh halwe mein shakkar hi toh dalte hain….aur jitni Meeta di ne batayi thi utni hi dali hai…
RB : wohi toh….nahi daalni chahiye thi… { the 'not nice, not done' tone continues }
Meeta di ke banane aur tumhare banane mein farak hai na….
….Tum banaogi to meetha to aise hi ho jayega…tumhare pyar ki mithas se…shakkar ki kya zaroorat thi…ab ho gaya na double meetha…. !
{ …how he loves to tease her and throw her off balance…! Preeto realises his game!!
She is both relieved and embarrassed by Rajbeer's comment…. She lowers her eyes in shyness, as Rajbeer grins and looks at her lovingly. He is touched by her gesture of having cooked for him, he knows how challenged she feels in the kitchen, yet she made the effort just for him. And whats more, the halwa is actually good! As Preeto offers him another spoonful, he takes the spoon and the bowl from her hands}
RB : "Main khud hi kha leta hoon…tum apne haath se khilaogi toh aur bhi meetha ho jayega…triple meetha! kahin diabetes na ho jaye" {He shakes his head strongly in mock concern!}
{He digs into the bowl of halwa and Preeto is happy to see him joyous; the sadness that had dawned on his face at the beginning of the evening had now disappeared. This is exactly what she wanted for him, that the present should be able to shadow the darkness of his past forever.
She continues to gaze at him as he enjoys the halwa, after a few spoonfulls he realises he has been ignoring her, and offers her a spoonful, she refuses…..}
RB : "Main waise bhi dene nahi wala tha…Yeh toh mere liye hai…tum apne liye Meeta Di se banwa lena" {He shrugs off Preeto's refusal of the halwa with the naughtiness of a child}
Preeto : "Aap halwa khayiye, main khana lekar aati hoon" {She gets up to go down to the kitchen}
RB : Tumne khana bhi banaya hai…?...{His hand with the spoonful of halwa stops in mid air just before he was going to put it in his mouth, the spoon drops from between his fingers into the bowl with a clink; His mouth half open and his eyes wide with shoc,! There really is so much that a man can handle in an evening!}
RB : Preeto!? Ab khushi se nahi shock se mar jaunga!
Preeto : {giggling} "Nahi! khana Meeta di ne bana kar bheja hai….main itna bada risk nahi leti… Meeta di ne shaam ko hi bhej diya tha kyunki unhe laga ki main ghar pe akeli houngi, sab toh bahar dinner karne wale the na… aapka favourite palak ka saag hai aur Ishu di Kadhi layi hain. Aap baithiye main le kar aati hoon"
{She turns around…and….she trips again! Steadying herself against the arm of the chair…}
Preeto : "Aaj ya toh yeh sari phategi…ya main chot khaungi…aap bhi na… kya museebat le aaye hain? …aaj pehli aur aakhri baar pehani hai sari….!"
{She turns towards him and gives him a scowl….As she turns back to go, Rajbeer quietly comes behind her and lifts her in his arms, for the second time in the evening}
RB : "Ab na sari phategi aur na tumhe chot lagegi…tumhari sab problems ka solution hai mere pass" {Love oozing from his eyes}
Preeto : "Rajbeer…kya kar rahe hain…
Neeche utariye mujhe…koi dekh lega…" {she begs him….flustered and embarresed}
RB : "Kaun…?...ghar pe toh koi nahi hai…." {raises his eyebrows and gives a naughty smile}
Preeto : "Oho…utariye mujhe…" {she cannot meet his eyes as his gaze burns her face}
RB : "Kyun fauji ki bahon pe bharosa nahi hai?" {just a tender whisper}
{The love in his eyes pierce all the way to the core of her heart and the warmth of it surfaces on her cheeks that turn red….all his joys, all of his life, all that was precious to him was contained in the span of his outstretched hands…. as the song plays on "Rang hi rang the nigahon mein…jaise satrangiyan ho raahon mein… husn tha noor ki panahon mein… ishq tha bekhudi ki bahon mein… tumko har aan, meharbaan paya… zindagi dhoop tum ghana saya…" ….She was his salvation….And he carried her downstairs…..}
