And it started off well, focusing on the attraction between a much older man and a young woman. But while Dhoop Kinare was a short, 13-episode serial with a positive ending, Kuch to Log Kahenge shows no sign of ending. In fact, the show, which previously aired at the prime time 8 pm slot, was moved to a later slot in the hope that it would appeal to the mature audience. But if the plot evolves in a senseless manner, characters are needlessly introduced and the storyline goes haywire, who is going to watch this soap? We think the viewers need a permanent break from Dr Ashutosh and Nidhi.
It is the same old story with the once popular soap Yeh Ristha Kya Kehlata Hai. The TRPs appear to be promising as the soap is now aired six days a week but again, there is needless melodrama and illogical sequences have been introduced: An ex-girlfriend from Naitik's past who visits him with her current boyfriend, and a young girl who is suddenly adopted by the family because Akshara takes a shine to her and can't see her being treated cruelly. This was a nice, old-fashioned soap about a traditional joint family and their everyday challenges and it made for some interesting viewing — till the scriptwriter lost the plot.
Kya Hua Tera Vada was supposed to highlight the impact of extra marital affairs but it has turned into such a bizarre narrative that you seriously wonder how the channel can air such rubbish. The plot was simple: Pradeep, married to Mona for 12 years, falls in love with a former girlfriend and decides to end his marriage. And Mona, who was weeping over the broken relationship, found love with her boss. So shouldn't the serial have ended on that note? But no, Anouskha's ex-boyfriend turned up to torment her and was bumped off after a few episodes, but the blame is placed on Pradeep and Mona now wants to rescue him. Complicated and crazy?
Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon is one of the most popular serials on the tube, but it is also heading down disaster lane. Khushi's dumb village belle act is so annoying that you want to slap her hard and ask her to get a reality check!
Why indeed are we subjected to such torture day after day? Why can't the channels end soaps with dignity once they have run their course? Is this too much to ask?
