And why is THAT an excuse to miss school? He is not being targeted,is he? ALL kids are asked to clean-not just him because of his caste. In school,we were EXPECTED to do these-it WASN'T a big deal-not for the school authorities, not for the teachers and definitely not the students.

Look a little deeper Nirvan-don't jump to the most obvious conclusions. You are moving house, your mother needs help in packing, your maid is helping out, isn't she? To earn a few extra bucks or save some labor for herself, she brought her son along to help HER out.

What did YOU do? You posted your outrage! WHY didn't you scold the maid for indulging the SON by allowing him to skip school on these grounds( she ALONE cleans your house, doesn't she? I'm NOT advocating that her son must clean just because his mother does-but he SHOULD show some respect for the work his mother is doing to feed and educate him)
And WHY did you NOT send the boy back home? Child labor is a cognizable offense NOW.

THAT is what SHOULD have been done-to ensure that he does NOT skip school on these frivolous grounds.IF you have the time & inclination,GO to the school with the boy, meet the teachers and find out if there is ANY caste factors at play.I'd think, probably not!

I am not even exaggerating when I say my mother's extended side of the family are the real life Malfoys. It's all about money, arrogance and bloodlines. They're pretty chill about everything else (like nobody goes around asking which caste are you from or refusing to share a meal in the same plate with someone else) but when it's time for people to get married. The blood line must not be tainted.

But things have improved (more like people are bringing in their own partners rather then waiting for their parents to)

This has nothing to do with traditional caste discrimination but it certainly counts.

Well in a way, caste discrimination did play a huge role in the wealth of the people. Obviously the higher castes were better off and the lower castes not as much.

But what do you mean by bloodline? I agree the Malfoys wanted 'pure blooded' people (there were so little by that time that you would have been distantly related to many 😆)...but I don't get what you mean by bloodline in this scenario? Surely they don't want to get married to their blood relations?

The general idea is exactly what you understand from the Malfoys. Bloodlines means people with a certain surname, a significant amount of old money and as little intermarriage in the ancestors as possible. My dad fit the criteria because his family is as old as my mother's and had the money. My ancestors probably descended from salazar slytherin. 😆

regarding reservation for SC's/ST's i believe not all of them should be eligible for reservation. Only those below a certain financial income should be helped. I have come across many SC guys in cities whose family earn very well and can even afford to pay lakhs as donations but still pay peanuts as fees due to reservations.
So even within the Sc community not all of them should be given these provisions blindly.

Yup!! For something that is considered a mere children's book it sure did have very serious issues discussed. I even made my grandmother read it to show her the crazy purebloods.
