Hi All,
I'm a silent member of this forum and to be fair I don't watch SS regularly.
I tune in every now and then - but I couldn't help but watch the train wrek of an episode on Friday.
I have no idea what is going on - the basic outline I have is that at some point Arushi gets pregnant, Vihaan goes away for a business trip and somehow gets kidnapped? He then ends up losing his memory and Vibha takes over his life and they somehow land back at the Vatsal Mansion and then Vibha decides to torment (successfully) the Vatsal ladies and nearly kills Arushi's kids?
Now apparently Arushi is dead and Vatsal's have lost their wealth?
So the ridiculous plot twists aside - what exactly was the point of Satrangi Sasural?
Every show starts with a germ of a concept - some "new" idea or story that they explore. When SS started it seemed to be a light hearted family saga of a family made entirely of women and the sole heir - Vihaan. Vihaan's relationship with each of his mothers - why he is the way he is, how each mother's life story serves to teach, inspire and contemplate the various realities of life and indian society. Then we had a "Momma's boy" who did everything to please his mothers now want to do something for himself ie - his love for Arushi - a complete misfit in his high class family yet with her humble beginnings and sheer honesty, kindness and good - finds her own equation with each of the mothers - winning them over - balancing the role of wife and daughter in law while allowing enough space in her life and marriage for all the mothers.
That would have been an interesting story for sure - in a world where women prefer physical and emotional space from their mother in law - here is a girl who battles not 1 but 7 MIL and how she finds herself - what role the husband plays in this journey - explore the layers of emotions one experiences when faced with various moral dilemmas - who does the husband support? How does a husband show his love and unwavering support for his wife whom he chose yet not bruising the sensibilities of his respective mothers and making sure they understand that he hasnt changed but his responsibilities have increased.
Some of you may recall but when Vihaan first fell in love wiht Arushi and started his mission of winning over each mother - I was pretty annoyed - I didn't like that he didn't have the guts to openly tell his mothers (who were so desperate to marry him off at the time) that he actually did find someone he likes and deal with it that way - but this is an example of a moral dilemma - for VIhaan not hurting his mother's was more important that being honest about his feelings for Arushi - though how its considered hurting when ur essentially giving them what they've been wanting - thats another topic entirely.
I digress but my point is - I don't understand what Satrangi Sasural is supposed to be about? Especially in light of recent events - what does Satrangi Sasural even stand for?
